I like the deinfluencing trend, but don’t recommend another product afterwards. It ruins the purpose.

i think the recs are fine as long as your phrasing it to show that there are cheaper alternatives that will give you the same result. if it can reduce spending habits and obsession with branding, then i don't see the harm. but that's just my opinion.

I disagree. Most of the time people actually do want to buy a product that they are going to use, the point is that they can get the same thing for a better price.
@Maxi.Dounut

@@Kayla-eh5fb But would they have originally wanted the product at all if they weren’t exposed to it commercially anyways? All in all no matter how you package it it is just overload consumerism. All these things are things people don’t even need anyways, it’s just piles uopn piles of makeup and skincare and other useless stuff. The problem is not that someone wants a new lipstick and is looking for a cheaper dupe, the problem is that they probably would’t even have wanted this lipstick in the first place if influences on SO didn’t advertise for it. In the end you end up buying some product you originally did not need. No one NEEDS skincare or makeup, it’s just that we live in such a spoilt society were we have too much money on our hands to be tricked into thinking we need it. I wish people would stop and think about how privilieged they are, and how our consumerist priviliege affects the environment and where all that plastic and trash end up. Not to mention that the cheaper the product, the more likely the production costs are cheap, meaning the people that make them are getting poorly paid and probably have poor working conditions. It’s just disgusting.

So many of these tiktokers missed the point. It's not deinfluencing if a certain product doesn't work for your skin type or you happen to be allergic to one of their ingredients, and it's also not deinfluencing if you recommend a dupe or a cheaper product instead. Only a few of them got the actual idea, which is that you don’t need these products AT ALL because you probably already have it at home, and we need to be more critical about how much we buy and the content we consume.

Strong lesson: what works for someone else may not work for you. Do research, understand ingredients and their value (i.e. do you want a simple hydrating serum? Is there another brand that has a product just as good or better and is not putting more money in a nepo baby’s pocket?) and buy what you believe may work for you based on that. One person’s favorite product is another person’s most hated and vice versa. Take a beat when something goes viral. Don’t be a sucker! Edit: Dior lip oil is not worth $40.

3:11 The SA cleanser has salicylic acid, which exfoliates.. It's supposed to dry skin out, but because oily skin has excess oil, it wont dry oily skin out. Before "de-influencing" a product, read the bottle or at least do research.

1:16 “the whole point of buying a 60 dollar body cream is so it smells good” I do believe this person did fall into the trap of just buying stuff Tik Tok influencers recommend and not actually looking into what exactly she’s buying. Yeah sure it’d be nice if the body cream had a scent to it but that specific body cream has vitamin c and ahas for help smooth bumpy skin. It isn’t just to smell nice. She should have just to the original bum bum cream is she wanted it to smell nice. 3:05 if a foundation ever pills on you what usually works for me is I shake the bottle and I’ll wear a primer, one of those sticky ones. Thats what works for me.
@gorlgoyle

Totally agree about the cream. What constitutes as good skincare is functional skincare (i.e. a moisturizer that truly moisturizes skin deep and has other benefits like antioxidants). Fragrance is not skincare. That said, nowadays you can get products with actives for a lot better a price than $60! I personally don’t think that brand is revolutionary for having an AHA body cream and that price is ridiculous. Their products are like overpriced Victoria’s Secret body creams and mists. Also your point about people not looking into a product to see if it’s right for them is something I always think about with viral products! There’s a brand called Phytosurgence that has really cool products but they say they don’t want to go viral because people tend to just buy what social media tells them to and wonder why they don’t love something. And then their inbox blows up with “I don’t like your product” messages. They want people to actually use what they buy and not let it sit there untouched. End rant!

some products ya dont need telescopic mascara-literally gets so clumpy and everyones like its my holy grail!!! but for me it looks clumpy and bad do not reccomend. gisou hair oil-i did love this i think its an ok product but not worth the price. it is really oily and sliperry, and it takes too long to absorb when it does it looks good ish but not worth 45 dollars..... bronzi drops-lowkey they dont do much, they make you look more pink than bronzed, and for how little product u get for the price, save ur money, or get a dupe. it disapears instantly i dont understand the hype it gets its not good.

Not to be that person but i'm gonna write a paragraph😝😝😝😁😁😁💯💯💯🥶🥶🥶🔥🔥🔥 3:11 As someone with KP (Keratosis pilaris), salicylic acid is one of the best products for smoothing and exfoliating the skin to get rid of bumps. Many influencers stating that they did not like a certain product just because of its effects on their skin, doesn't mean you should fully give up on a product. I'm NOT saying that you should be pressured to buy these and I'm not saying that there aren't better dupes out there (cause there are), I'm saying that you should do some research on your skin type and try to find what works best for you. Products that work on oily smooth skin might not work on rough and bumpy skin. In conclusion☝🤓, taking care of your skin is a personal journey that requires patience and experimentation. Don't be afraid to try different products and find what works best for you. Embrace your skin's unique needs and remember that everyone's skin is different. Enjoy the process of discovering what makes your skin happy and healthy. Keep exploring and stay informed about the best options for your skin type.
