This is a Dutch church .. And our god is English .

Het is zeker jammer maar de kerk werd al jaren niet gebruikt maar we hebben nog wel 2 andere kerken in het dorp hoor dus ja misschien hadden ze er een cultureel centrum van kunnen maken maar die staat er al 1 nog geen 500 meter verderop

That IS a heartwarming story. More should be done to at LEAST Be environmentally useful with older churches. Instead of demolition, make them community centers, offices, stores or very interesting creative habitations.

Had ie t maar moeten beschermen tegen veroudering. Maar uiteindelijk bestaat ie niet he ;-)

K. C. Beagle Just compare a Demolition in western Europe with one in the US. We don‘t just knock buildings down here. It‘s called selective demolition.

unlike what demo crews do in america , the dutch recycle , for that reason their demo is very systematic and calculated , not like americans whom seem to be in a race to tear it down asap and put everything onto the same heap without sorting materials .

I was saddened to see how much of the beautiful thing wasn't salvaged ..... maybe there was more we didn't get to see ..... the blokes were pretty quick to get the copper flashing 😇

Sloop levert vaak meer op, dan kan men de grond doorverkopen aan een project ontwikkelaar.

Er is overwogen om er een multifunctioneel centrum van te maken. Technisch was dat mogelijk, maar de staat van de voormalige kerk en het jaarlijks onderhoud ná verbouwing maakte het simpelweg te duur. Op de plaats van deze kerk ligt nu een deel van de centrumring. De pastorie staat er nog wél, en de spits is gespaard gebleven, die staat nu op een kleine sokkel schuin tegenover waar de kerk stond.

@@marcvanderwee Terwijl er aan de andere kant van de stad toen een moskee gebouwd kon worden. Wat duurder was dan de verbouwing van de kerk.

Nee dongen is een klein dorpje en we hebben in Oosterhout al een zieken huis, hey nadeel is ook wel dat er te weinig plaats zal zijn voor een ziekenhuis ze hebben nu een straat met huizen gemaakt op de plek van de kerk

@@peon9282 jij snapt het ik zit zelf in de sloop en doe dit werk nu bijna 17 jaar en ik hoor iedereen klagen over hoe langzaam het wel niet gaat terwijl daar een paar redenen voor zijn. In nederland heb je trouwens ook in de meeste gevallen stenen stalen en betonnen gebouwen en constructies in amerika in de meeste gevallen hout ik heb ook nog nooit een amerikaan met een sorteergrijper gezien volgensmij kennen ze dat nieteens Hier in nederland word er vaak terplekke gescheiden bij de bron maarja als alles zoals in amerika uit 1 en hetzelde matriaal bestaald valt er weinig te sorteren dan kan je indd wel gewoon gaan beuken en prakken

Because the Diocese needed the money, there are houses now at this place. No church tax in the Netherlands, the church is broke. Main reason for closure: very low church attendance.

Omdat de kerk vóór de sloop al een aantal jaren leeg stond. Er was een discussie over het eventueel geven van een andere bestemming aan het kerkgebouw, onder andere een multifunctioneel centrum. Technisch was dat mogelijk, maar de kosten van verbouwen en met name het onderhoud van het pand in de jaren daarna was een struikelblok. Dus besloot men tot sloop. En op de plaats waar de kerk stond ligt nu een deel van de centrumring en achter de kerk zijn huizen gebouwd.

Think about the ground condition of the Netherlands; it is sandy and swampy. If you drop too much at once, the water mains and other structures far around might not be too pleased.

Er moet gescheiden worden bij de bron dat scheelt een hoop geld namelijk je kan niet zomaar gaan zitten aan rommelen zoals ik mensen vaak zie doen in amerika ik doe dit werk zelf nu 17 jaar en alles gebeurd met een reden

there were girders above the arches. I think they were anchored in the walls. But I agree, if a quake of about 6 for a minute hits any European city, not much will be remaining upright. With that I also mean modern "safe" structures. They are usually too stiff, especially those of concrete.

@@gahtsno1 hmm I was more thinking in the lines of dutch building methods being bashed. Including the way we demolishe buildings. I am lately reading up a lot on American building methods and in specific reasons for premature collapse of those structures due to speed building, cutting corners for early completion and budgets cuts . European church building is in this case down to a science and they stand for centuries without failure. It just seemed like that I guess

There is already a mosque in Dongen, it is part of the Turkish culture centre. It is barely recognisable as a mosque, and there is no trouble about it.

According to the Wikipedia article, it was replaced by housing.
