The show is very gay and very camp and i love it.

Both Doom Patrol and Sandman exist in the DCEU. And the Dead Boy Detectives originated in the Sandman comics (Season of Mists), so they all share the same universe.

The Sandman universe doesn’t mean the 10 issues of Sandman. That’s why “universe”. You watched the tv show Sandman that’s the main comic but there are side comics, even books directly connected and this one (remember that Lucifer is created by Neil Gaiman too) is written by Neil Gaiman and 2 others. The show itself - as Sandman was - is under the supervision of Neil Gaiman, so… are you sure it’s not carefully written or casted? 👀 Are you sure you know it better than Neil Gaiman when he personally said: this show is good and he before easily said about any adaptation attempts to “no” when he thought those are terrible. ☝️

I think it wasn't very good, but also not a disaster. Just another mediocre supernatural Netflix series for teens, with aged up characters (the originals are 12 years old) played by much older adult actors, with a couple of highlights both good and bad. I would give a chance to a second season, because I think there's potential there, but I won't be surprised when they announce it's been cancelled.

I finished the season last night, it took me two nights to finish..the first night I stayed up until almost 1 o'clock which was an accident. I watched 5 episodes that night. The first couple minutes of the first episode was a bit of a turn off. I thought the Cat King was hot..but also not??? However, over time 👀👀👀👀👀 I LOVE HIM😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 His ego and how he acts and stuff is attractive?? like it works for him since he is a cat but on a regular man/human..gross. He looked good in most of his outfits. 👏The way I would appease his ego😆 The way Cat King helped Edwin in the forest 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I was like "You like hiiimmmm☺️" I went "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" when Edwin kissed The Cat King 😂🤣😂🤣 I loved Edwins B plot of accepting his sexuality and building up to kiss a guy 😭😭😭😭😭 For future seasons I NEED a healthy dose of Cat King..and Edwin, they better not break up either!!!! Cat King BETTER not die either!!!!!!!!!!! I never heard of Lukas Gage before, so I looked him up and well I'm not into Euphoria, I haven't seen White Lotus or You or Love, Victor or anything else that he has been in. I followed his Instagram, which I hardly ever do for an actor that I haven't watched before. I didn't know who he was when he got married to Chris Appleton, I feel sorry for Lukas though. My favorite characters were, in no particular order, were: Jenny The Cat King Niko Esther Crystal I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with Esther, I think they picked the PERFECT actress to play Esther. She has great acting chops. She kind of looks a little like Jessica Lange and a smidge of Sarah Paulson. I need more Esther!!!!! I loved Jenny, I feel sorry for her. I enjoyed her mentor-y role that she played and how she was protective. I do normally like alt girl charactets, the actress acted really well! I love some of her lines that she said 😂 One problem that I have about the show is the death scene of her stoker seemed too fast...or not well edited?..or not well shot? Oh Niko, I love her too! I loved her character she was so nice and optimistic. I love her white hair now!!! The fairies or whatever they were were HILARIOUS I was surprised everytime they cussed 😂 I LOVED seeing Caitlin Reilly in this! I love her tiktok. I normally don't like tiktokers in acting rolls but she nailed it because she is already funny so she could pull off those lines. I liked when Crystal found out that her parents don't even like/love her. I hate that theme though but I try to be objective. I enjoyed learning that she was the problem and that she willingly let the demon into her life. I like her ancestor scene. The actress kind of looks like Miranda Cosgrove and Rachel True, Rochelle from The Craft. Crystals outfits remind me of a little bit of That's So Raven for some reason..maybe her intro outfit but purple? I did like Ruth, she did a really good job. I am wondering how she will fair with her new job 😂🤣 👀The Cat King👀 Netflix BETTER NOT mess this up!!!!!!!!

I'm normally all for gay and camp, but this felt way off... the humor was often repetitive and juvenile (see the entire Niko/dandelion sprites arc), plot holes and artificial complications were abundant (they really couldn't have thrown that backpack a little closer towards Charles in the finale?) and the dialogue was insufferable at times. Who thought it would endear us to these characters to have especially Edwin and Crystal bitching at everything and everyone 90% of the time for the first 3 or 4 episodes? Or to give Charles way too many "that's brills" lines right until the end? Even with running gags and catchphrases there is such a thing as balance.

It's from the Sandman universe because the story of how Edwin Paine died and they became the Dead Boy Detectives was originally one of the stories published in between the whole that was then adapted to the Sandman TV series. Sort of. It's one of the issues right after the main storyline with Rose Walker gets resolved. So time line wise on the show it would probably fall between season 1 and 2 if they ever make a season 2. Kinda like Calliope. Death makes an appearance in the story. However, the TV show got greenlit because the boys made an appearance in Doom Patrol. They're all DC Vertigo properties which all overlap, so there ya go
