The "Underbelly" series is a really good look at this era in Melbourne. In Australia it's on Stan TV. Other great stories in the set include Sqizzy Taylor of Melbourne in the 30s and The Golden Mile, Kings Cross Sydney in the 80s and 90s. Hope you find them somewhere, cheers from Melbourne.

In hindsight, knowing about Nicola Gobbo and the overt corruption at VicPol... This is just plain embarrassing. What's more embarrassing is the culture which allowed all this to flourish, hasn't got better, it's got far, far worse.

Finished watching Lawyer X doco and just found out Zara Garde-Wilson was a girlfriend of Lewis Caine. Wouldn't be worth mentioning if it wasn't for Garde-Wilson's appearance in multiple media investigations and docos voicing her disgust over Gobbo's personal involvement with her clients and the ethics of mixing business with pleasure. Right-e-oh.

I find that comment that Carl looked like a kid next door and not a bad sociopath is absolutely abuserd. If you go back to the 5 families in new York they did not look like killers they looked like dad's and uncles and grandpa. It's not yr body it's the mind that is evil. A lot of serial killels look like handsome men that don't need to rape and kill but again it's the mind and personality that is evil. Do you actually think a bad person looks on the outside like a vampire or something, this is one thing that makes we wonder how you can say such a ignorant statement. I did five years in prison in the 90s and yes there are those tough guys you can tell but there were guys that looks harmless that were as brutal as the hard men. It's the mind man not the body.

Karl liked fast things, too bad he didn't use his mind the same way and think of all the angles before he acted or gave orders. That is the one lesson that none of these wanna be's seem to take from Hollywood and the media, and that is that you keep your cards close to your chest and never let them know what you are thinking, just like in the Godfather when Vito admonished Sonny for showing to much emotion and interest in something that Vito hadn't said he would get involved in only a few hours before the meeting with Salotso to discuss getting the protection and finance for the deal. The lesson is that you should know your enemies are all around you in the life you have chosen, so you should never underestimate what they could (and will) do and never completely trust them either because unlike the old school criminals who had been kept in line with the knowledge that no one man is more important than the operation and kept most of the work out of the public eye, the new ones seem to think that it is all about the publicity and notoriety while the smart ones avoid publicity like the plague and try to keep their name and whatever,'s going on as far from each other as possible. And you don't need to guess who will last longer in the life when you have drop kicks like Carl becoming big players and idiots like Benji running around shooting every so called enemy so publicly and, just for good measure, sleeping with his bosses wife as well. Shakespearean, yes, intelligent and well planned by the protagonists, NOOO.

@Bejamin Parker because UK is just a hop skip and a jump from alot of countries. France ,Germany,Holland etc etc neighbours with the whole of Europe.. but Australia is isolated and very strict and has well established law enforcement.. would be ALOT harder than the UK to get drugs in. High risk high price.
