This is the mall of my childhood and teen years. For most of my life, Northgate Mall was a vibrant and bustling staple in northwestern Cincinnati. I still live here, but haven’t shopped there in decades. I remember how it looked before the ‘88 refurbishment and the ‘93 expansion. Lots of good memories here for me.

I spent most of my childhood in this mall. My parents took me to the Disney store at least 3 times a week and they would buy all my clothes from Sears. My dad would always get a coffee from the Gloria Jean's kiosk and sometimes he'd buy me something too. Those were good, simpler times. I used to work at that Macy's for almost 2 years until it closed in late March 2020. I was there working that night when those teens invaded the mall and food court.

I live right near there in Fairfield, my mom actually grew up RIGHT BEHIND the mall and was able to walk over to it during her childhood, she was born in 1972. She has tons of stories to tell about this place. I've only been a few times and now that I'm an adult it's really dead. The only malls still running are Liberty Center in West Chester and Kenwood Mall which is very high end for me, it's a "high class" from my perspective. It's still nice to go and walk around and just look around though. I go to Liberty Center the most and have been there many times. It's a dying breed, it really is. I do love the feeling of empty malls. We used to love going to Forest Fair before it closed for the vibes. I live about 10 mins from Forest Fair.

My family moved to the area in 1968, I remember the grass airfield before the mall was built. I joined the Air Force in 1977, in those days the mall was always packed, at Christmas time just finding a parking place was a challenge.

A trip down memory lane, I spent a lot of time in this mall growing up, and I can still probably name most of the stores that were there. I think out of all the malls, I liked Forrest Fair because of the size of it. That Northgate Mall had a Sears auto repair facility in the back next to the parking garage years ago.

I spent my entire childhood at this mall, Tri-county mall, and the mall at Forest Fair. My family used to have a hard time deciding which out of these 3 malls to go to. It's really sad to see the shape they're in now.

Used to go here in the 70's and 80's, dead grandparents loved it there back then, would just people watch while we shopped/ate. The haunted house was over-the-top but the best around. Plenty of movies seen at the adjacent Cinemas as well. Great memories.

I used to live near a Northgate Mall in Seattle - which closed in 2019 (to make room for a now-open Seattle Kraken Family Ice Skating Facility and a planned redevelopment) and has since been mostly demolished. Sad these Northgate Malls are dying off, haha. Great video, Jeremy! I have really enjoyed your growth in your production and narration skills since your channel's beginnings!

Spent a ton of Time here with my friends growing up through the 2000's From Spencers and Hot topic, To Scifi City where all the Wargamers played. Sbarro pizza and Goldstar Chili in the Food court. used to be a cool place that sold Swords too, aswell as the typical mall stores. When they added the Movie Theater finally. it was Decent, but was plagued by the Local Communty. Northgate as a neighborhood has Declined in the past 25 years. Drugs, Theft, Mismangement by Trustee's. All led to the Locals being disruptive. Curfews had to be put in place at the mall. Like you said, Due to the 100 Kids storming the mall... Lots of Memories from thousands of Teens who spent money there..

That mall was still popular when the others were barely hanging on. Late 90's into the mid 2000's it was still elbow to elbow at times. It's taken a steep fall in the last 5 years to where now as shown in the video there's virtually nothing left there that's interesting to see. Now that the Movie Theater and Sears is gone it's really been a ghost town. The last time I was there last summer there was a mentally disturbed lady in the food court yelling and at the entrance a guy was trying to sell bootleg CD's.

I like that idea, but you already know that would help too many people, they will rather tear it down and build ANOTHER McDonalds or better yet, a tire shop right across from another 3 tire shops 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂ - There's so many possible uses for these old buildings but they never do anything remotely interesting with them..

Sad to see it in this shape. Rewind the clock to the 80’s to I’d say around 2005 and this was a great mall to get some really good deals on just about anything. One of the things that hurt Northgate was the newer Stone Creek shopping center not even a mile down the road from there. Once the huge Penney’s left around 2005 other stores slowly started closing one by one. I don’t see this place lasting another 5 years unless a miracle happens.

I’m from the area. Colerain as a whole is doing pretty well as far as retail goes, probably in part due to the Meijer and massive Walmart nearby leading people to do errand runs around there, but Northgate has a bad reputation. There are two malls relatively close that are doing very well, being Kenwood and Liberty Center, and it’s a double edged sword. They do great, but that fact is killing every other mall in the area. When it comes to mall stores, most people would rather either go to Liberty or Kenwood due to their high activity, unique stores on top of the regular mainstays, and better reputations. If a place decides to open up a location in Colerain, they’ll go for somewhere outside the mall if they can afford it.
