I agree with you 100% about getting nostalgic over old architecture. When I see places that were built in the 80's and 90's that haven't changed it brings back memories of my youthful days. I miss the 80's. Thanks for sharing and hope you feel better soon!☺

Such a beautiful work of architecture and design. Love seeing malls still in their original look (more or less), even though it's gone so far downhill. Always a shame. I wish I could go to all these places but thank you for your work in documenting these for those of us who can't be there in person!

The videos just get better. I look forward to every new one that comes up, thanks for these!

It's weird how in the 40's people ordered from catalogs, malls opened in the 70's, now with the web it's like everyone is back to catalogs again.

My grandparents lived in Hazleton, PA, about 20-30 minutes north of this mall. My parents and I have shopped here before, either going to Hazleton or traveling home to York, PA. I enjoyed your video! And I look forward to future ones! Lots of luck and be safe on your travels! :)

I live roughly 45 mins to an hour away from this mall. I seen this mall go from almost full to vacant in the span of 10-15 years. I think there were a few reasons this mall died. First off the general area and just losing of jobs. Second down the road about 5-10 minutes they built a big plaza with a Wal Mart and Home Depot. Plus there is another pretty full but way smaller mall right close to it as well with a Harbor Freight and a Boscovs. It's sad to see this mall go down the drain. Black Diamond was a good store, they had a Chik Fil' A for the longest time (the only one that used to be in the area) and some decent local stuff as well.

What shocks me is that there used to be easily a dozen Kmarts in the area I live (Illinois' St. Louis suburbs) just 10-20 years ago! After this round of closures is complete, there will ONLY BE ONE LEFT to serve this corner of the St. Louis Metro (which likely has at least a 1/2 a million people at this point), as well as NO MORE THAN 4-5 to serve the rest of the Metro (2.5 to 3 million people)! On the other hand, Sears has yet to shutter any more regular Sears department stores, although both Appliance/Hardware stores outside my house just vanished like magic very recently...

Fantastic video! Seeing your proximity to Canada you should check out the Niagara Square in Niagara Falls, Ontario. There is nothing left in the food court. It's a great example of a vintage mall interior !!

1. Nothing came out of the first auction and the mall was pulled from it, I tried to ask around but couldn't get any official information. 2. The Arby's was purchased by another independent franchise after the original franchise closed several locations in the northeast PA area. 3. When the coal mines and factories closed up, this area kept dying. Surrounding towns like Shenandoah have up to 25% vacancy. 4. Up until about two years ago, this mall was holding on. When the Sears left, it was the beginning of the end. I think everyone knows the writing on the wall about this mall, sadly.

Great video. In 2000 I came all the way from the San Francisco Bay Area to attend PSU Schuylkill. I went to this mall a few times, its so sad to see it empty. When I was there it was very busy and the Bonton was having a great sale. I cant believe its almost been 20 years since I graduated from Penn State UP!!

The Mom and Pop places are in a way creepier than empty spaces. Just the idea that a small indie store could afford what should be a 'Big Mall pricetag' is quietly worrying. It must be nice for the locals to have that place just as they remember it - till a bulldozer turns up :(

This is an excellent video. I'm originally from PA, not from this area, closer to Philadelphia. For the most part, malls in my area are doing prey well: King of Prussia, Willow Grove, Plymouth Meeting. However, It's sad to see many malls in Pa that are not doing well. These malls are in less populated areas that possibly cannot economically support the malls.

I been to that Black Diamond Antique Shop back in August 26th 2015. It felt kind of haunted being in there. Maybe it was the overall atmosphere in Frackville. Plus it was night time and cool. Felt like i was being watched. But then again i get easily spooked =P I was visiting my girlfriend for a week. Only week i ever been in Pennsylvania =( But anyways.
