As a person born and raised in this town and growing up with the mall in its prime with every store space full, its heartbreaking to see this video. It was the place to be in the 90s as a kid to hang out. Now its an empty depressing shell.

Warren, PA has a beautiful historic downtown. I'd rather invest there and return the mall to forest land. Educated young people are returning to the urban cores of old cities around the globe. They dislike corporate chain retailers and do most of their shopping at small retailers and online. The only people you see in malls now are the elderly engaging in exercise . . . and poor kids engaging in violence. Consider, too, that Warren's has lost a third of its population since 1940 and continues to decline. A town of only 9,000 people cannot realistically sustain a mall.

As somebody who remembers back in the late 1990s when the Warren Mall was booked to near capacity and that place was full of thousands of people on nights and weekends, this is a little depressing to watch. But it tells the story of this day and age, where Amazon and other online retailers are the new norm, much as shopping malls were 20 years ago. Nowadays, kids pick up their phones or play Fortnite. Back then, that's what we had Aladdin's Castle for. Oh yeah, and for me no trip to the mall was complete without eating at the Panda China Buffet across Hatch Run Road. Good times, yo.

This mall was really nice in the 90's. I remember going in one year, and in another year it was half dead. Now everyone goes to the lowes and walmart plaza. By the way, if you get a chance, go to the Variety Buffet on that mini strip. They have good food, mostly Chinese.

No vaporwave during the mall tour, THANK YOU!!!! That music gives me panic attacks, big reason I can't watch most dead mall stuff - all of them copy Dan Bell. Nice to see a fellow WNYer out there doing the mall thing too. I visited about 3 years ago when the Kmart was closing - loved this mall just for it's dated nostalgia and those amazing fountains.

Sad. I don't get why this happens to some malls. Not familiar with Warren area. People blame online shopping, but I don't know. Maybe the area is just economically depressed. I live in Queens, NY and we have a famous Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst that actually keeps buying up city blocks and expanding. Now it also plans to build up and use it's air rights. It's just a haven to go to, not just for shopping, but to be around people, get out with friends, and even enjoy some nice food (it has many top-notch restaurants - not just a food court). It is always full, noisy and bustling, but in a good way, and always a pleasure to visit and has been around and expanding for almost 50 years. It's so successful that newer malls have opened withing walking distance, like Rego Plaza and Rego Center and Queens Place Mall.
@urbanpioneer8148
@urbanpioneer8148 4 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely correct. Warren is poor, rundown, and if you can pass a drug test there, you're in the minority. But, to compare it to Queens, a borough of New York City with hundreds of times the population, is just silly. There are probably more people living within a mile of your mall then there are within 60 miles of the Warren Mall. So there's that.

I used to frequent the Warren Mall as a teenager in the late 1990s. Back then we didn't have camera phones, but if it were possible to go back in time and take footage, I can certainly vouch to you that that place was THE place to be in Warren back in the day. The bus that went to the Warren Mall from downtown every hour on the hour was always packed, and good luck finding a parking place in the evenings or on the weekends. Instead of playing Fortnite, kids jammed quarters into the machines at Aladdin's Castle.

This was how the Westgate Mall was in Fairview/Rocky River Ohio was before the turned it into a strip mall. The only original business and structure remaining from that mall is the Kohls. Which is why it is one of the only Kohls with 3 entrances one was to the mall itself. (Only reason I know about the # of doors in comparison to the other stores is because I worked there)

Where you went in there was a Big K-Mart a knife shop radio shack label shopper goodwill store also had a big lots this was dead I only lived 30 minutes from here in Johnsonburg PA from 2007-2014 and it was dead then the only three stores that had any business was the Big K-mart, The Bonton(Bergner's) where I grew up, and the Big Lots. Now that Big K-Mart and Big Lots vacated I imagine that Zamias ran this mall into the ground. This was the summer of 2014 last time I was there. It also had a auction house by the Big Lots space I see that vacated too. So sad this mall was always clean not dirty but old

You never really see these kind of malls in Europe.
@BoratWanksta
@BoratWanksta 7 жыл бұрын
Europe was never overretailed unlike the US, that's why. Also, suburban sprawl doesn't seem to occur to the same degree, as it occurred throughout the U.S. from the 1950s to 1990s. Not to say Europe doesn't have sprawl in some areas, but it happened a lot more in the U.S. BTW if you're ever in Amsterdam, Netherlands, check out Magna Plaza. It's a mall I'd consider struggling, most especially the upper floors! I get the sense this mall is on the way to dying, especially its upper floors. First floor is the only floor that has a lot of stores left, to be honest. The building was an old post office, that was converted into a mall. Located just slightly west of Dam Square, the central heart and main square of Amsterdam. I was surprised none of that mall was sealed off, when I visited in spring 2016. And btw, that was actually my first ever trip to Europe. I can thank all the online reviews, that turned me on to wanting to visit there!

I dont find your style like Dan Bell at all. I mean, when youre adding music to a 70s mall its generally going to sound a certain way. Dan Bell has an odd creepy-ish slant to his videos... you seem to want to represent what you're filming... more like a time capsule. While I appreciate that he documents abandoned places, I'm actually more a fan of Adam (LOVE Adam) and somewhat The Proper People. I think you fill a needed niche in terms of style. Keep doing you!

I was born in Warren and knew that mall even when I moved to Corry. I remember when the Aladdin's Castle Arcade was in there. I honestly thought it was high rent and home video games which killed the arcades in Warren, that started the decline in foot traffic, stores kept coming in and out which frustrated people, Wal-Mart was finally built after years of the county saying that they wouldn't, those stores jumping over to to the new land where the Wal-Mart was built, K-Mart going bankrupt and now Bon Ton is about ready to fall. I'm really surprised Napoli's is able to hold on in that space.
