The thing that always struck me as funny about this movie is that the ED-209 at the end was going to go full metal over a parking violation. There's no middle ground with that 'bot.

The thing that always struck me not as funny is that Human life means little to nothing in comparison to money, and power.Whether it be from the criminals(Boddicker, and his gang),or Dick Jones, and Bob Morton, life means nothing.

They couldnt just reshoot everything or rebuild the movie with mediocre CGI in post production. They had to plan what they wanted to shoot, the VFX they needed for it, use what they shot, and the movie was good or bad.

The medical team trying to save Murphy sound very realistic for a good reason - they *are* a real medical staff. The director wanted the scene to be genuine so he paid an off-duty ER team to come in and treat him like they would a real gunshot victim.

I rewatched this two days ago as well, and the thing that really stuck out was the realism of it all. My wife IS an ER provider and the realism of that scene never struck me until this viewing. This movie is so fucking good, that I see new things 30 years after it was made.

The idea of Robocop defines what kind of hero is needed in Old Detroit and other cities in peril. The human spirit cannot be broken, torn away and defeated by the corruption that stands before it. A summer blockbuster, social satire and hyper-crime action thriller that indeed blew away the masses. Box office smash and winner of an Academy Award for Best Sound Design. One of the first-ever Rated-R properties to transition into multiple mediums. From film to television, live action & animated as well they were toys, video games, comics and more. The much-anticipated Robocop:Rogue City harkens back to what made this first film so memorable. "The Future of Law Enforcement" was the tagline. This film surely was ahead of it's time.

We had a lot of video salons in Russia at that time where they didn't look at the rating and allowed children to watch. I saw this movie for the first time in 1988, when I was 8 years old. We had themed toys much later, but we perfectly sculpted robots out of plasticine))) It's a pity that they don't make such films now and probably never will.

Murphy wasn't that hard to kill at the beginning, he was just wearing body-armor Murphy/Robo isn't an AI. His brain is still inside, which is used like a massive hard drive, but Murphy is still in the parts that weren't destroyed by the bullet to his head, which is why Robo is able to fight against the programming at times, due to his own personal morals. It is a main reason he is the only successful good one.

Facts: That scene where Murphy grabs the keys when he is first deployed as RoboCop at the station took so many takes due to the rubber on his hands bouncing the keys off multiple times! During the scene where RoboCop shoots out in the factory, Peter Weller (who plays Murphy/RoboCop) was listening to Red Rain by Peter Gabriel on his Walkman during filming to be in the mood.

OK; Robocop never tires, has a literal photographic memory, and his face and robo-penis is all kinds of bulletproof. One thing RoboCop apparently can’t do, however, is walk down stairs. Mask and suit restricted Peter Weller’s movements so much that he found it exceptionally difficult to walk down stairs. But he can still kick ass. The clip og ED-209 falling down the stairs, so pay attention to the last few seconds. If you watch carefully you’ll see Weller very clearly break character and move in a very un-robot-like fashion down the stairs while holding onto the railing before the shot abruptly cuts. This means that just like ED-209, RoboCop also struggled with stairs, lol...Thanx Me. V. Stay groovy, Peace

The "I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!" scene is awesome, and it has a funny story. Orion Pictures funded the original film for 22 million dollars. When the executives came to see the set and see what they were paying for, Paul was filming the in-universe TV segments. They saw the "I'd buy that for a dollar!" filming and became incredibly worried. They were convinced they were throwing 22 million dollars in the garbage. Paul had to have a meeting with them and explain what they'd seen and it's just a funny story all around. But they almost pulled the plug! Glad they didn't!

Truly awesome movie, and in multiple ways. It’s a great sci-fi action film, but it’s also a great drama, dark comedy and satire, with many layers to the main character and also the many different themes in the film related to social commentary, and this is especially the case more than thirty years after the film first came out, since many of the things the movie points out have either actually happened by now or are very close to happening. This film was very much ahead of its time and is one of the best.

"Dead or alive, you're coming with me!" Fun Fact: For the attempted rape scene, writer Edward Neumeier originally had RoboCop shoot past the victim's cheek, hitting and killing the rapist. While getting ready to shoot the scene as scripted, Paul Verhoeven noticed that Donna Keegan's legs were spread apart, giving him the idea to have RoboCop shoot between her legs and hit the rapist in the genitals. Edward Neumeier loved the idea and that was how the scene was shot. Also, this is how a action film should be, 102 minutes just telling a story with no filler. Instantly quotable and doesn't treat its audience like fools and it's one of the greatest action films ever made. Plus, the legends Rob Bottin and Phil Tippett doing proper special effects... I'd buy that for a dollar!

Trivia: - NO one Robocop shot was wrongful. Every person he shot in "Defense" even end battle, he announced his presence - The Infrared thermograph scene at city hall wasn't IR, nude actors coated in colored paint in a black room, a real IR camera cost too much to use for mere seconds of footage - OCP headquarters was a matte painting over bottom of Dallas City Hall. - The RoboCop suit was so hot and heavy that Peter Weller was losing 3 lbs a day from water loss. Eventually, an air conditioner was installed in the suit.

The social commentary and anti-corporate corruption messaging is incredible. You think about it. The villain has the ability to provide military weaponry to a hoodlum to advance his goals. And those goals are the reduction of crime to make it easier to essentially buy and privatize the city of Detroit. But if they have those kind of resources, why not provide them to the cops so they can more effectively fight crime? Answer: Because the company can't make money doing it that way.

"Murphys the first AI, this is from the 80s" I think that'd probably be HAL 9000 (2001: A Space Odyssey) or AM (I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream). Those are from the late 60's.

Most of it was shot in Dallas TX because the director saw how the city looked at night and it reminded him of blade runner. Also being tx is probably how they whole cowboy angle with murphy came up in the beginning.

Yes, you're absolutely right about Kurtwood Smith being the grouchy dad on That '70s Show. He's such a hard-working, high-energy actor, he's been in about one gazillion TV shows and movies. I can't even keep track of it all!

Paul McCrane was a great bad guy as Emil. But the first time I saw him in a movie was in the 1980 film FAME. McCrane was wonderful as a very sensitive gay character with an amazing singing voice. It was so weird seeing him as this sadistic villain Emil. Extremely talented actor, and singer with great range.
