This was my introduction to dead rising (family was poor and couldn’t afford a 360) and let me tell you even this version amazed me at the time. I thought it was revolutionary. Imagine my reaction when I got to play dead rising 2 a few years later 🤣

I like how Capcom invented modern zombie survival just to reinvent it with the first Dead Rising it felt like 90's arcade games put on home console with the classic Resident Evil style story telling then made it a pseudo open world

Probably the one good thing in the Wii version that would’ve been useful in the original would be when the dialogue pauses the game. There’s some parts in Dead Rising where it felt as if the in-game dialogue went on for two long. Not to mention the fact that there’s a time limit.

I played both versions, the original and CTYD, and I gotta say.. The timer only really mattered if you were trying to kill the population of the town or save every survivor. If you're just playing casually, it never really mattered. That said, the aiming was soooooo much better on Wii than on the 360, the controls were just perfect for using the Mega Buster for me. In fact, I never really used guns in the original until the overtime sequence because mini-chainsaws and mannequins are OP as fuck.

The blocked off areas and the fact that there are only certain parts of this version where you can freely roam the mall outside of a mission make the walk through walls hack a necessity for any playthrough of this to get closer to a normal experience.

I played this version as a kid, as well as the 360 version (to a lesser extent). Chop really warped my memory of Dead Rising, I didn't think it was very good until not too long ago. Recently replaying it on pc, it's become one of my favorite games of all time. Good video man, took me back

I can’t get over that they just made a re4 mod

Despite this being an objectively bad port and not the best way to experience Dead Rising 1, I for whatever reason, will always have a weird soft spot for Chop Till You Drop just because of how bizarre it is. Even though my first experience with DR1 was on the 360, I still can't help myself from admiring it, and the team that made it did the best they could trying to recreate Dead Rising 1 besides the bosses and it playing in the RE4 engine. I'd play Chop Till You Drop over Dead Rising 4 any given day of the week.

Did you ever realised that the zombie that killed cletus was the survivor he shot?I started playing on the 360 beacuse i was bored and i got to this part and i just realized that zombie totally looks like that survivor.Same clothes same size and you can even see the hole in his stomach.Did they made that on purpose?

My least favorite part about Chop Till You Drop are the zombies themselves. It's understandable they had to reduce the number of zombies on-screen to compensate the Wii's inferior hardware capabilities compared to the Xbox 360, but to make up for it, they give us the zombie poodles and zombies parrots, two very annoying enemies. In fact, I would sooner deal with the gas zombies in Dead Rising 2 than those, and unlike the gas zombies, they are there for the whole game. Then for some reason, they had to zombify some of the psychopaths from the original too. Without the zombies animals and zombie psychopaths, it would be a better game, though still inferior to the original.

One of the only times I can think of when a company essentially made an official “demake.” I played this back when it released and did certainly find it interesting. I later sold it as I preferred the 360 version more, but in hindsight I wish I had kept it as a little curiosity.

ONE OF MY PEOPLE, *MY BROTHER* !!! I grew up with ALL the Resident Evils on PS, Code Veronica on Dreamcast (great system BTW), and the Gamecube remake of the first REs is one of the best remakes ever. Especially for its time. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw within a "gaming magazine" (kinda like a blog but made of papery stuff) had upcoming zombie game of the all time, Dead Rising on 360. HILARIOUS, inventive, and *packed* with zombies. Consider me meathooked immediately. Because the game was so quirky and corny compared to the unintentionally quirky early REs, my family and cadre of other zombie hunters were a bit more put off by it. Too gory, too tongue in cheek (often literally)... but I was entranced. Really nailed that "itchy tasty" nerve that I needed itched, tasted. I remember the glorious day when I finally unlocked the laser sword after a monstrous marathon attempt. And then remembered the other day when my saves failed with my harddrive. The sequels never did it for me in the same way. But here, in you my friend, I found my brother, a goofer who like me can quote the entire damn game lol. I've been on nostalgia trips with folk lately going over Final Fantasy VII Remake and such (my favourite narrative in gaming, thus pretty much my favourite game...), but to find someone going down a nostalgia jaunt with one of the best *GAMES* ever made, let alone best zombie game. Great pleasure to meet you, very gladly subscribed, gonna have to check out your stuff man! Thanks again for your hard work and humour! watching this as i do 7 day survivor in the background. Crazy to think this was the first Dead Rising game i actually played personally

Super late to the party here, but the reason for the sectioned off paths around the mall are because of the zombie limitations. If you were at a split path, and both paths were open to you, there would clearly be an easy route because of the lack of zombies on screen at a time. So what the game is doing by sectioning paths off is basically trying to push you into the zombies.

Technically it’s only Willamette that’s ending in the first Dead Rising game, so if Cletus made it out with all that money that you wind up paying him for Leon’s old hand me down weapons from Resident Evil 4, he’s in a good place financially despite losing his business due to the way that the zombie apocalypse is contained at the end of the game. 😂

The blacktail is based on a glock (i am pretty sure it was, but i could be wrong) which is a polymer frame handgun. While they are as sturdy as a metal frame, polymer used for most pistols wouldn't break like that regardless what happens in that mall entrance part. Makes me wonder if one of the developers just hated Glocks and thought that was funny to do that as a stab at Glock. Edit: Thank you ShadowGamer300 for the correction on the model. That would change that thought on the developers not liking glocks to just not liking polymer pistols.

I thought this was the only version until a couple of years ago. I played this as a kid and never got past the war guy boss at the end. I bought the original last year and got around to beating it a couple months ago and just recently bought the second one (+ Off the Record) and the third game. Such a good series

for lore reasons i find zombie parrots and dogs very strange. And it makes me sad since parrots are so intelligent and seeing them be zombies disturbed me.

I bought this game solely because I wanted to play Dead Rising and I was staying at my second mom’s house for the week and we only had my Wii (My 360 was at my other mom’s house). Despite this port’s flaws, I still enjoyed this version

if jerma's playthrough of 1 and off the record showed anything, its that trying to explore n have fun and also do all the cases are 100% not realistic. The time limit is definitely important but I see it as pressure to keep going through the main story when more often than not youre sacrificing side quests just to barely scrape by. You probably can't do every case comfortably until a 2nd or 3rd playthrough anyway.

Im still find it nice that Cletus in this infamous port is alive. But man the context it would been better handled. I mean with all the money thats literally around it would been pointless. Maybe instead escort him to the security room and he can provide as much ammo as you want? He'll hang out probably by Otis. Probably better then him being stuck in his store as that plaza is one of the worst infested areas of the game due to the state its in.

This was the first and only Dead Rising game that I played and I'll be honest and say that I actually enjoyed my time with the game.

the wii was great or at best a better gamecube, but there are some things that should not have gone on there

Chop till you drop was my first introduction to Deadrising I remember the next game I played was like a slap in the nuts it was so different I still like how Cleetus works but other than that the game sucked

Here's the thing yes it has some huge flaws. Yet it does fix several things from the original game too, people often forget that. Also it's a better game than Dead Rising 4. I have my own reasons for liking this unusual Dead Rising game. True fact, it's the only Dead Rising game I preordered lol.
