A far cry from the frequently drunk and hilariously angry myke at the beginning of this decade who would go IN on feefo over anything lmfao. Myke's character development has been unmatched. Truly the prince Zuko of KZfaq critics.

@@tolijero5866 Feefo is the baby of the group, so his opinion sometimes differs in drastic ways from other members of the group, which makes it easy for the others to gang up on him. Myke's defense of Feefo's stance is here is not unprecedented but it is sweet.

He posted this on instagram ''ABOUT THE ALBUM: Secrets & Escapes is a compendium of Brother Ali's time spent with Evidence, over the course of three trips to California, recording in a Venice garage with no regard for pleasing the internet or competing with the music industry. Evidence chopped up records on old-school samplers and ran them through a compressor (2 track) so they couldn’t be re-arranged or mixed. Brother Ali sat with the mic and spit rhymes as they came to him, without writing or organizing them into songs. Ev smoked a lot of weed, Ali prayed extensively, and their influences on each other can be heard in the recordings. Any time they made something that reminded them of what they’ve become known for, they threw it away and started something new. Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and CS Armstrong came through to bless the project with contributions, too. Secrets & Escapes is the result of two friends making rap music for no other reason than because it’s what they love to do.''

Ali said on that 12 Geniuses podcast that he had gotten too comfortable making Ali songs, to the point that it didn't feel like art any more. That he knew how to make an Ali song so well that it was no longer challenging. So he and Evidence scrapped the song the second it sounded like an Evidence or Ali song. He said he didn't know if the project would be good, but he knew it would make him better. That too many peers were just going through the motions and making their same old songs. This felt necessary.

Loved this whole album. I love that it’s no long, but very concise and straight to the point. I’m with Myke, this isn’t typical Ali. He sounded very somber, and almost defeated in tone. It’s like he’s gotten to a point where he’s witnessed and heard so much tragic shit happening in the world for so many years that he decided to approach this project with a calmer, but sadder energy. Even though I’m 27, I can always appreciate Ali’s grown man perspective on things, kinda like Phonte.

Pharoahe Monch rapped one of the craziest lyrical songs of the year with Th1rt3en (a collaborate trio of him, Daru Jones & Marcus Machado) called Palindrome. Best listened to along with the music video which is like a pseudo lyric video. Some of the craziest word play. Would honestly be dope if you done a video on it if you were so inclined, peace ✌

I feel like most of Br. Ali's stuff is about positivity/spirituality and fighting for what is right. This album, however, I felt was like picking up the pieces after spiritual breaking. To give some insight I feel I have to Br. Ali's headspace- the Muslim community, especially around the time this was released, was going through some really tough things and so I feel like he used that to reflect on his whole life and no longer is it rage that fuels his righteousness - it is more a sadness. Because to always just be enraged or searching for "spiritual highs" you will become exhausted. He definitely is not saying he is defeated and is giving up! It is more like, ok I am broken and I am not telling you I have all the answers but I am going to take these pieces and build something from it. I liked ALOT of Br. Ali's previous stuff but this is my personal favorite of his.

Didn’t know it was out till this review came up; Ev isn’t listed on Spotify as producer so I didn’t know. Just watched Ev’s episode on Talib’s podcast, so this is all lined up. The Tekashi soundbite is perfect. Feefo sounding mad superficial here.

He made this album sound different on purpose. He changed his voice deliberately from track to track. Ali tends to be so sharp a lot of tracks sound similar. Even the structure to each song were deliberately switched up to not be uniform. This is some of Ali’s best writing he’s ever done. This is headphone, dissect, walk away with something new every time, music. The answer to a lot of the poppy back ground music that dominates the industry.

As far as being an Ali Fan, this project let me know where he is at mentally. Which is all I wanted as a fan because he’s been gone and had some crazy situations in his life that have completely changed his out look on the music industry and his music. It was dope listening to him bridge the gap. He also had some real bars mixed with absolute gems. Also, his rhyming is so unconventional but works. Rhyming words that don’t rhyme, and making it work. Imagine what a killer saw/ Trapped behind a prison wall/ Knowing that within his hearts/ The serum that can cure us all/
