I think you deadheaded a bud that was about to open.... but, otherwise, perfect advice. My old farmer dad would have loved and highly approved of this tutorial. Then he would have talked to you for another hour about petunias. :)

So helpful. I was just having this discussion with my neighbor. I had no idea and she said she just pull the dead flower. Now I will tell her the right way, and why it’s done this way. Exactly the video we needed. Thank you 🤗🌱

I learned myself because sometimes on rare occasions, moving from indoor to outdoor, If you bump into the plant, you will see them actually bend just at the crown. The easiest indicator! I have a "Misty Seas" plant from 2021 still blooming! Repotting is key and watering twice daily when it's above 75 degrees Farenheit. Deep watering is only necessary when first repotting into a larger planter.

Hi, the one that you just deadheaded looks to me as if it was about to bloom. How can you differentiate them? Also how do you differentiate the growing calex with the ones that their flowers has already dropped. They both look the same to me 😅
@plantvibrations Жыл бұрын
They look the same on the plants you’re growing? Or just in the video. I can totally understand how they look the same In the video but i think in real life you can easily differentiate
@pnwequestrian Жыл бұрын
I agree, the first example was dead however the second was a new bloom. One easy way to differentiate is spent blooms are wilted, new blooms are firm. You will want to remove the mature calyx along with the spent bloom before the seed pod starts to form, unless you want the seeds. I use scissor pruners. Mature stems that have dropped their flowers will have a seed pod in the center. Hope this helps!

Been dead heading a hanging plant all wrong since mid may. Now its mid july. Plant just went from bushy to stringy. If i deadhead correctly going forward, will the plant become bushy again?

I always thought you're supposed to pinch it back, or cut it, at the next junction. So like take off more than just the top part. Is that wrong? I hate petunias for this very reason lol

Such a simple thing. No wonder my poor Petunias look so bedraggled every year. Time to stop blaming the garden shop 🤦. My grandma used to collect her eggshells to put in water for fertilizer for her 'tunias. Stinks but seems to work....
