Yes, Life was hard back then In many places, It is not like this anymore, some of the bike paths are hahaha but a good driver is ok on it. even I have driven a bike on bike roads like that In the Philippines.but then I have been going back and forth to the Philippines for 15 years now, and it is where I chose to retire. I Love the spirit of the people and I feel at Home there so It is where I NEED to be. It is very safe now and not at all like it was back then. Now is the time for the world to see the real Philippines with all the Happy smiling faces that will melt your heart.

Almost roads going to provinces of Cordillera especially during rainy seasons has lots of landslides. Roads paved off but due to landslide the roads becomes muddy as well as the soil becomes soft. The water and soil goes down from the top of the mountain that causes landslides. I've travelled different parts of the Cordillera. Lots of accidents happened, some vehicles fell and people died. The Provincial Government keeps fixing these roads but landslides always happens. Not only roads suffers landlides also some parts of villages. Villagers buried alive and some of my relatives were victims. Thank you for the said documentary.

Been there, done that!!! Actually, the road to Tabuk is very much better than the road to Tineg, Abra. In Tineg, only a WWII 4 wheel drive Weapons carrier truck, with a high ground clearance can make it up the mountains, and only halfway through. The rest, we have to hike (motorbikes nor horses cannot handle the rest of the trip) for 12 hours a day for two days to reach Poblacion Agsimao. I hope they have a road now. It was way back in 1993, but I still want to visit, or maybe stay in the mountains. I was a young volunteer doctor then. I think I am still strong enough to make the hike, after more than 25 years. I suddenly miss the mountains again, as if I am not in the mountains of Africa now, again, as a volunteer doctor.

our rider's group already pass this treacherous road from the nearby Province of Abra going to tabuk, kalinga via central mountains. Our body and stock scooters and motorcycles have to endure 10hrs. of painstaking travel because of the road condition not to mention some ongoing clan or tribal clash as we take a rest on the town of Balbalan, kalinga but it's worth the experience!

Amazing how many people feel hurt on their national pride, just because someone share an 8 year old documentary about a road in a remote area in their country. The road was like that until very recently, and nobody claim, it was or is representative for the entire country.

I'm an American and lived in and out of the Philippines/PI for years and finally 'luckily' married my Pniy! I will say this about Filipino's- they can get-by, make-do and improvise whatever it takes to get some where or do most anything, i.e. I've seen 7-8 people on A Honda 100 and no one wears helmets and it works for them. I just came from a Filipina family birthday here in suburbia USA and now- 'here' most of these people- Filipio's and Americans are 'fat and spoiled' (No mo riding on bus tops and 7-8 people motor taxis for these!) Yet, I like the real Filipino's best for they just get there and make it work!

lol , I don't see any danger traveling in the of the North of Luzon . North of Luzon is the most safe to travel , but not much to show . To my young age , I spent several yrs in the north , that was in Laoag city . I graduated in Laoag central school , until second high school in Laoag national high school . I like Laoag city of the North !

It's not like that anymore. The road has been paved. This is just like a historical video now. Good to remember the good old days where passing the mountain is hazardous to your health.

Of course there's gonna be land slides , there's not even a single tree in sight that would naturally hold the ground in place , combined with a climate rich in heavy rains and the result is that road

I'ved crossed Tugeugarao - Bontoc Sagada via Tabuk. It is now a lot nicer since PNoy had concreted the roads in there. But still dangerous hehehe

The dialect of Kalinga, sounds like Myanmar or Burma. And their facial features is similar to those Countries.
