A new Interstate Highway and a land grab are in the works in the El Dorado Valley, which lies between the cities of Henderson and Boulder City.
The rugged McCullough mountains tower over the valley as a natural barrier between the two cities. Scientists who have done extensive sampling or rocks from the McCullough's say the mountains are loaded with natural asbestos.

To all the people that want to cover this up that asbestos isn't bad or don't want to tell the public need to be set in the room filled with asbestos dust and have them breathe it in for a couple of days and then ask if it's okay?

It's time to sue the heck out of any entity that suppresses this information, it is a criminal action. LIARS saying that it is not a public health risk, disgusting.

Ooh when this finally breaks and people sue the state government... There are going to be a lot of people in trouble.

Nyxie of Neurotic House “when this finally breaks”. Very silly comment, there were studies in the 1920’s that showed a rare form of what they called “lung death” in people working in factories making Asbestos products. It wasn’t until the 70’s that the US started making some regulations (after the lawsuits finally started happening of course) The US didn’t stop manufacturing asbestos until the 90’s. Also keep in mind importing and use of asbestos products in the US is still legal, it’s just regulated. We are in a country that will always put money over human lives, it’s no secret that asbestos exposure kills thousands of people every year, but with asbestos being such a useful and great product, it’ll probably never be stopped as long as there’s a trail of money attached to it.

Nice investigative journalism. Local governments are always thinking about their business constituents & never about the voters who suffer from their poor decisions.

The reasons for preventing the geologists from releasing their findings seem bureaucratic at best and a cover-up at worst. Why could the Nevada state health official not retrospectively review the report and retrospectively give the geologists permission to publish? I wonder whether they were more concerned about the economic impact of the clean-up/containment of asbestos ore and the economic effect an asbestos scare might have on the Las Vegas tourist trade? Call me cynical, but methinks I am right!Well done to news reporter George Knapp and his news crew for exposing this cover-up and bringing the issue into the public domain, and thus embarrassing the bureaucrats involved in supressing the geologists’ findings!

It's possible to get it in weeks or months from some asbestos company records. Second: asbestos was never banned. It's still used in car brake pads, for starters.
@etherlords88

The only company I know uses asbestos in the brake pads is raybestos but even they claimed they no longer uses asbestos and it's just the brand name now (which I highly doubt since which corporation gives a single fuq about human lives!) and I expect 80% of chinese aftermarket brake components contains asbestos, however, if the mechanic still wanna work with those stuffs, fuq them to their miseries!

You have this issue anywhere politicians rely on corporations for campaign funding. They don't want to bite the hands that feed them. They serve the people but the people don't fund a successful campaign. So they will ignore and refute it, so long as they get to keep their jobs.
