Lots of chest shots still have criminals drive off and hit a telephone pole, but a blown out arm ends it right there. No rule says you can not take advantage of their torso as a 'backdrop'. A ripped tit can also kill arm motion. Wrist shoulder bicep shots are easier close up, and has proven effective and psycologically more likely to get them to stop seeking help, than a round causing internal bleeding. Everyone has the ability to level their head and make decisions before during and after pulling the trigger. No one on any side has to be excused or damned for being flawed.

If you have someone in plates and helmet for example a shoulder shot isnt going to be more difficult than a neck and or face shot. Of course big fat crazy teen with a knife isnt geared up, but still getting a arm to drop is not being the forefront of the conversation and i see that as a problem

This test is far easier than the real-world scenario. For one thing, the target is moving along a more or less predictable path and it's also moving slower than the hand would be during a stabbing motion. Most importantly though, the target's journey lasts several second, whereas the real world version only presented for a split second.

He discussed this in the later part of the video wherein in real life, they’ll be bystanders and stress. Also different conditions and movements, he was able to partially shoot the hand in controlled situations, but I think the point he’s trying to make, is if he’s not fully hitting the target, how much more in high stress conditions or with different movement, thus shooting in the hand to his opinion, is not ideal.

Possibly even less. I took a firearms course for work. The instructor was a retired cop with 20 years (including 8 on SWAT) on his resume. He was very open about the lack of shooting skill many cops have. In fact, he said my range shooting was better than many on the force in our town. This was my first time shooting and when I said "thanks" and started to chuckle he looked me dead in they eye and said "I am not kidding." The reality is cops are not skilled shots. In large part because, despite by media wants people to believe, most will not have to shoot under duress let alone draw their weapon.

@@dr.floridamanphd like he said at the end of the video he would consider himself a better shooter than most of the police force, that would imply that most cops( I predict like 90+ percent of) would miss the hand entirely potentially hurting innocents and allowing the attacker to reach his target. I would assume that most police departments have a policy of shooting center mass only. Plus that is also why all police and military around the world teach to shoot center mass, less probability to miss. The sad fact is that the ignorant media and political organizations will run with the plausibility as if it was 100% repeatable every time to push an agenda.

Great video. I am a retired Marine of 22 years. For the first half I shot on the 2nd FSSG rifle and pistol team, then the 2nd MAW rifle and pistol team. (My preference was pistols-back up you car to the shooting line, fire all day, no 600 or 1000 yard line, no shooting jackets etc.). During this time we were Weapons Instructors, and after spending too many hours on pistol ranges training Marines, I can barely think of 2 shooters that could conceivably make that shot, and both were Distinguished Pistol Shooters. In real life, under stressful conditions, even the best marksman miss their targets from very close locations. Too many times I have read about officers emptying their 16 round magazine and hitting their target 4 times. That is 12 rounds that continued to their primary destination unimpeded. And another 4 rounds that like over penetrated the body and continued on to a secondary destination unimpeded. Now I am an attorney practicing law for more than 30 years. People like to ask why not shoot for the knife, the leg, the shoulder, etc. I assume this is the TV mentality at play. What most people don't understand is the legal concept of deadly force. If an officer shoots around between a persons eyes, or shoots the person in the little toe on their left foot, under the law the officer has exercised deadly force. There is no legal difference. I agree that the shot between the eyes is more likely to create a permanent "deadly" force then the one to the big toe, but nonetheless both shots are deadly force. Still, the officer that shoots the target in the toe, and exercised deadly force, gives the target the opportunity to exercise deadly force on the officer, or other civilians in the area, potentially creating the opportunity for the officer or the civilian to not go home that night or ever again.

Paul, I think Sky King could have done it. Back about 1960, I watched him on TV start a back fire by shooting his .38 M&P revolver from his Beechcraft Bonanza! He was doing about 175 knots while flying 300 ft. off the deck. The bullet glanced off a rock, and the spark from the ricochet touched off the grass fire, saving the forest! Did you know they made bullets of steel back in the '50s? This was done to create sparks when the bullet hit something like buildings, rocks, cars, etc.. Lots of people don't know that! Yeah, I know Sky King could have shot a knife out of an assailants hand, and I'll fight any man who says he couldn't! As always, a great episode. Thanks Paul!

Paul has ignored, perhaps wisely, the real advantage of the Taurus Judge. Forensics. You shoot 9mm from a gun you have shot a round traceable to that firearm. Buckshot from a Judge, no. The wad might be traceable to a box batch so don't keep that box/batch at home. The pin strike location can sometimes be forensically traced but the Judge retains the casings (like single-load shotgun) and doesn't eject them (like a pump does) so you can dispose of them off-scene. I feel grimy for pointing this out, but it's really the best and and only advantage I can think of for a judge. Some have said it's ok for close-range snake busting. So perhaps that too.
@SubWaySpiderman
@SubWaySpiderman 3 жыл бұрын

@@SubWaySpiderman Paul made a good case for the pattern being good for a snake at close range. Most people would freak about using a stick - obviously not you spider man. As far as firearms go you can't carry them in public unless on the way to use them at a legitimate venue OR use them in self defence at any time unless part of police etc. Our self defence laws really suck. I'd love a 'castle defence' law, that'd be brilliant. On the up side, we really don't have a lot of gun crime. We had 200 gun deaths last year in total. Most of them were suicides. Though it should be noted that the Mythbusters also aren't any sort of weapons experts. When Adam draws that pistol, both hands should be moving, he should be racking the slide just as he clears holster, and then pulling the trigger as soon as the gun lines up with Jamie. He fails to do that on every draw. I myself can draw, rack, and fire in right about two seconds, with no "motivation" as Adam says in that clip. Most of us are also carrying with one in the chamber and a safety on (Glock guys have no safety at all). I can draw, safety off and fire in just over a second. Still, none of this matters because it still serves to prove your point: Even as fast as I can draw and shoot, I can't do that and make a confident shot on anything but center mass

I think what Adam actually did there was draw, rack the slide to chamber a round, flip off the safety, raise up the pistol, aim the pisol, then fire the pistol. There is a video on ASPs channel about this: 2 police officers shot the legs of a knife attacker, one of the cops is now dead after he was stabbed in his heart, the assailant just kwpt walking and stabbing after beeing hit in the legs. Sad, that POs die, just to please the screaming idiot crowd

isn't there a fucking large arterie in the upper leg? I heard its not that uncommon to bleed out insanely fast from beein hit ruffly in the thigh area?

@@J-IFWBR might be, but there are a lot of case where someone was fatally wounded and kept attacking/shooting Center mass is the only reasonable area to stop a threat: vital organs, large area, important organs are hard to miss

@Rose Roberson Heh you probably wouldn't like him. His lyrics could be a little explicit. Not like popular rappers of today though, he used them well in his music and they had meaning to the piece. James Earl Jones is great btw! That voice is just incredible!

I still laugh when guys say that my .22lr at the range wouldnjist bounce off a big enough guy flexing. I can never get these meatheads to hold my target down range for me though. Weird, I tell them to just flex they will be fine but they don't seem eager to try it out. Shame.
