As a child I was given a book that I cherished for years: THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. I especially remember the photo of the GIANT GROUPER among other material in this wonderful gift for young person. It is probably out of print & would be dated in some of its content to some degree now, but it made an impression on me at the time & I will always remember fondly.

Dived there just a couple weeks ago. It is literally just like the video but better. So much action and the biodiversity is insane. Sea snakes, turtles, groupers, dense schools of reef fish as well as butterflys and angels, several species of rays and sharks, all while humpback songs echo in the near distance. It's truly epic. Can recommend Yongala Dive in Ayr, QLD for any divers out there.

When you descend, the sea snakes rush out to greet you from the open holds in the hull, moving between your legs and body, its amazing! Got to see many big travelly, the huge groupers and also bull sharks. Thanks for reliving the memories with this video :)

I dived the Yongala at the start of the 90s about 6x. Back then you could still go inside the wreck. I've been in a bathtub down in one of the cabins 25m deep. I've seen the Groupers, a Tiger Shark, huge Barracudas, bull rays, eagle rays and much more. Going inside the wreck at night was truely amazing. All the walls are pink and orange from the soft coral. One of the most amazing things I have seen in my life. Hope I can go back some day.

The editing on this one was annoying. Constantly switching camera angles when the school of fish is swimming around to make it seem more action-packed, I guess, but prevents the viewer getting a clear picture of what's going on. That stuff is poor practice even in action movies, and it's even worse when done in a documentary.

Awesome vid, I've dived in Thailand and while the colours are different, many of the fish were recognisable. With climate change coming up, it makes me wonder if we could make more giant wrecks for coral growth in spots where they can deal with the local conditions (a little cooler perhaps and a little further out on the continental shelf). It could help potentially at risk species to migrate with climate change and it would provide great new dive sites so a little tourism could take place further north and south.

Cool story: Me and my mates once went on a fishing trip. We started fishing by about 2 pm, after eating lunch on the boat. About an hour later, I caught something, a massive grouper it seemed like. I did my absolute best to pull on it but my line broke. 10 months later, everyone was grouping up on the same beach and what I saw was a washed up grouper, dead that was. And when I came closer, I saw that it had the same hook I used on my fishing rod when we went fishing. What a coincidence. No idea how the grouper even got beached, it wasn't even low tide or anything at all.
