Hello and welcome back to the channel.
Saturday 16th June and I made the journey upto Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands for DEMU Showcase 2024 - the annual show of the Diesel & Electric Modellers United.
Firstly, time for an admission! I missed one of the halls completely, so my coverage of the event is a bit lacking - my apologies. This will be the first of a small number of films that will focus on one layout at a time - a new format for this channel - what do you prefer? Lots of layouts in a longer film or a much shorter film, focusing on one layout at a time? Please let me know in the comments.
So, the focus of this film is Deadmans Lane, a 4mm scale layout by Mick Bryan.
The layout is a depiction of the Loram run site, formerly known as the British Rail Technical Centre or RTC, where Network Rails fleet of rail testing vehicles are maintained. The viewer sees the scene from the opposite side of the Derby to Nottingham mainline (where the East Midlands Trains depot is) just off - Deadmans Lane.
The NR yellow stock is mainly converted r-t-r items - a collection which has grown and grown. The mainline features rolling stock prototypical to the actual location - look out for a pre-production Cavalex class 60 making an appearance.
I hope you enjoy the film. I have replaced the original sound recording with music - the ambient noise in the room was too overpowering to leave it on.
