@the40yearoldgamer414 күн бұрын
Even better tipping story: I was playing 1-2 one day (when the rakes were capped at 6+1 dollars...) waiting for the 2-5 list. I was running ok but still wasn't more than 50-100 up off a 200 buy in... and then a big hand emerged where I opened with 86, got a call or two behind, and then one of the blinds 3 bets. We all go to a flop of 456 rainbow. Guy in blinds makes a weak ass continuation bet, I decide there is enough fold equity to jam and I'm chasing 9 outs against an overpair on a misread. So I jam. The guy in position near INSTA CALLS for his stack and then guy in the blinds doesn't act... ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DEALER BURNS AND TURNS!!?!?!?! Once the duece falls, the guy who insta called starts celebrating and the guy whose action got skipped causes the floor to get called. The other guy clearly has a 3 in his hand and isn't familiar with this dealer screw up and the procedure of shuffling the turn back in, etc. The guy in the blinds now tanks for a while and decides to put his chips in partially because the other guy totally gave away his hand as 34! Board runs out with a blank and a king... I'm thinking, wow, I can't beat AK, I can't beat any overpair, I can't really beat anything unless he specifically has AQ and was calling overcard equity. I had tabled my 86 before they even dealt out the cards since it was a 3 way all in. The guy with 34 now LOSES a hand he WOULD have won and he is PISSED... the 3 better cringes at my hand excessively while staring at his cards before mucking (don't know what it was.... AQ? 67? A5 suited with backdoor maybe?) I START LAUGHING MANAICALLY AND TIP THE DEALER PRETTY HUGE, who looked so ashamed of herself, the other guy is ranting and cursing all the way to a rebuy. I wind up stacking both of them AGAIN later on... it was 1 of my only 3 sessions in 1-2 where I made over 1k... then when my 2-5 seat opened I promptly got coolered for a quick 500, the end!

Honestly, I don't think tipping should be expected for anything ever. Tipping is supposed to be a REWARD for going BEYOND just doing your job. Also, I think anyone should be allowed to BE tipped. Tip your cashier at the grocery store. Tip your doctor. Tip your bank teller. Whatever. Why do some jobs get tips but others don't? It's BS. Lastly, how about the DEALER tips the PLAYER sometimes, huh?
@TheStevelocal5 күн бұрын
It's expected because it's part of the culture. Certain jobs, like a poker dealer, are paid far less per hour because the players tip. If you can't afford to tip, you should not be playing. If you can't afford to tip you shouldn't be ordering food delivery either

@@SketchyPoker Yeah, if I know they're pros, I understand when they tip me a buck per pot. They tend to keep thing very civil and positive since they understand variance and take accountability for their play. I rather have than someone berating me when they lose. Your 2nd point is kind of complex in tipping countries. Corporate inflation would probably increase the rake in games if the base pay for dealers increased, further hurting professionals and recs alike. I've played too many sessions to say this. Those who tip dealers after each pot are never winners. I've never seen them go back with chips. Even if you do it's only smart to tip at the end of your session. Imagine tipping good and ending up losing everything lmao. I only tip at the end of my session when I'm up well. They don't even care about who gets it because it gets shared among every single employee working in there
@StalrosTheGreenMage16 күн бұрын
So a couple things: 1: none the chips in the bankroll are involved with the dealer's paycheck. Whether the casino takes your money or you win big it makes zero difference to the dealer's wage. They get paid the same regardless of outcome. 2: on the topic of dealer wages, they make a fraction of what the vast majority of jobs pay as their base rate. Im talking less than minimum wage. Can the house afford to pay their dealers? Absolutely. But they don't. Player tips are easily 90% of a dealer's paycheck if not more. 3: that being said, that doesn't necessarily mean the dealer is entitled to your money. It is, after all, a gratuity. However, if youre already profiting big time, what's the shame in tossing a chip to the dealer that was providing you the win with a smile while they put up with the verbal abuse of your fellow players? Dealing as a job requires thick skin. They get cussed at, insulted, and threatened several times a day, all for a horrible wage - and yet they still provide a pleasant demeanor and show care for the players that treat them so harshly If you have a crappy silent careless dealer then whatever but a good dealer deserves better.
