How long does it take to get the new long block for the 2.0. Once its ordered from the Ford Factory. It's been 3.5 weeks since the Service manager told me he ordered my long block for my 2017 Escape Titanium AWD 2.0 For water intrusion in my engine. In the 2nd and 3rd cylinders. Then he said 1.5 months before the new long block replacement starts. Just want to know if I am on target for the time schedule. The Service Manager is very vague on info. Everytime I ask a question. Is this normal? Thanks, For your Awesome info. Ford Boss me. Shawn.

Yup! I sold cars for a Ford dealership for 12 years and seen way to many people have to pay out of pocket for a new engine. Anytime I sold a new or used Ford especially these ecoboosts I suggest they purchase the longest Ford extended warranty possible. Already had the engine replaced in my 2016 Fusion 2.0 a couple years ago. And it’s back at the dealership again and it’s losing coolant and I can’t find a leak. Glad I have 5k miles left on my warranty.

@@cameronclark3927 A lot better since I stopped selling cars late 2020. I drive one of those “shit boxes”. I bought what I sold the whole time I was selling them. You’d be surprised how many people bought vehicles with these engines even knowing about the problem. A lot of people that bought them without buying an extended warranty at my dealership were the first owners before we knew there was a problem. The Ford company knows about these problems way sooner than a dealership especially one as small as the one I worked at. It’s Fords screw up and I hope they pay for it. When my first engine had the problem they said they sent us the new design to replace it with. Turns out they lied. They probably thought I would run out of warranty before this one had the problem or before I would notice. But I have 5000 miles left on it. So now I’m getting another engine. Besides that one big problem my cars been fine. I know mechanics and salespeople in my city that sell just about every car brand except the really high end stuff. We don’t have any lambo type dealerships in my city. No vehicle manufacturers make a vehicle without problems these days. Would be nice if they would actually design and build one to last. The next vehicle I buy is going to be an older one I can work on and buy just about any part for at a common parts store.

Why should it be a recall? It’s not a safety issue people are not getting killed. That’s a recall people think just because they’re having a problem. They should just recall it. No they’re out to make money. They want you to pay first they don’t want half they don’t wanna pay they don’t wanna dig in their pocket. They want you to dig in your pocket you to pay for it not them.

Had exact same problem on a 2017 Edge 2.0 that was just 8000 miles out of warranty. Ford said too bad so sad, a new engine cost me $6000. It is criminal that they know it’s a problem and issued a TSB on exactly how to fix it. Great video and even better commentary. Thanks for putiting this together. Can't wait to see Part 2. This already happened to my 2016 Edge; still under warranty, and it cost FMC north of $8K for the long block replacement, not counting the six weeks of driving a loaner on Ford's dollar which after two weeks was exchanged for a new 2020 Ford Edge from the lot so they didn't have to keep paying the renntal car company for a vehicle. I have taken videos of it misfiring and blowing white smoke , (with an strong antifreeze smell) on cold starts only, because it doesn’t do it every time. Also, I have had to fill up the almost empty coolant reservoir twice in the last 2 weeks. Lucky for me I still have about 2months left on my 5year PT warranty. I have about 47,700 miles on it. I’m sure I will get the call from my dealer that this engine needs to be replaced for coolant intrusion into a cylinder. Scary how close to the end of my warranty this has occurred. Should make a new 4.0L VR8 with dual injectors and a small roots supercharger. That would make tons of power and be good with low boost as long as there is a closed deck and nothing too complicated around it. Could also just toss a turbo on it but really you could make a nice design with a single cylinder head mounted on an angle to fit it under the hood. That or cut the new 7.3L in half and stick that in everything as a nice V4.

I have a shop in Los Angeles and a new customer came in with a 2017 Escape 2.0 eco boost yesterday with a P0301 P0300.. pulled the plugs and sure enough cyl 3 indicated coolant exposure. Opened up the radiator cap and sure enough got the soda bottle pressure release. Told him at 66k miles he’s going to need a long block and I e-mailed him a KZfaq video of this common issue (considering he’s a first-time customer with exceptionally low mileage and I’m trying to sell him an engine - not quite the best first impression). He was shocked and honestly just beside himself about it. I told him this is why I keep all my old cars, 2 of which are well past 300k miles with really nothing much needed and seldom repairs. I feel like newer cars are so disposable these days.

He’s going to fix it when he sees how high the market is. He bought it after his lease ended for $8k, so I doubt he’s going to find anything that new or low in mileage anywhere near the cost of replacing an engine. I know he has the means to do it, he’s just going to have to process it. We topped off the coolant and swapped out his plugs which temporarily resolved it, but I warned him it’ll likely come back on especially under load - at which point he’s just going to have to bite the bullet and do it.

So we are running into that exact same problem. But in our case we bought the 2017 Edge used and within 48 hours it popped the P0316. Dealer replaced the plugs when they took it in on trade, obviously because of a misfire as dealers DO NOT just throw money at trade ins without justification. With the sales group giving us the run around and attempting to make a claim on the extended warranty, I finally let them in on the fact that I retired from Ford as a factory tech. Now they replacing the long block after the warranty company spoke with me and denied the claim for being pre-existing the purchase. Still don’t trust them but we will see. It’s sad I had to contact some people I knew at Ford in Detroit to get them to do the right thing. Excellent video by the way.

I have a 2015 Escape with the 2.0 Ecoboost with a little less than 18,000 miles. Started misfiring a couple of months back. Autozone showed a P0304 so I had a mechanic replace the coil in cylinder 4. He noticed liquid (coolant/ water) between the coil and spark plug. There was enough that it had pooled on top of the plug. He said that certainly should not be happening and that I should take it to a dealer. I got an appointment with my local dealer but another coil went bad in the week it took for the appointment. Towed it to the dealership and they diagnosed it with coolant intrusion. Ford told me to get lost when I called them to ask if they could assist. The dealership wanted just over $15,000 for the long block replacement. I called another local dealership and they could do it for about $4K less than the other dealership. I took the car to them and their mechanic said he did not think it was coolant intrusion since the coolant was not entering the actual cylinder. I haven't lost any significant coolant from the reservoir. I think I added a cup or two of coolant to get it back to between min and max level. He threw another "redesigned" coil and a new plug in it and it has been completely fine for 250 miles or so. Have you seen the coolant intrusion where the coolant sits between the coil and plug?

I’ve usually been seeing the coolant over temp codes and a misfire code for this TSB, and yes, you will find when you pull the motor, the old block will have slits between the cylinders and this is usually where the coolant is leaking through into the cylinders. The new block will barely have a nick between the cylinders. Such a shame because I’ve seen a couple escapes come in that are about a year out of warranty and having to tell the customer they need to buy a whole new motor really sucks.

We took the car for a trip from Dallas to West Monroe, Lousiana. About 700 mile round trip. Car seemed fine. Maybe a little rough during idle. Anyways, the code reappeared yesterday after a week. Coolant seems fine. No where close to empty like the one in the video. I'm going to replace the #2 fuel injector. If that doesn't fix the misfire code, guess I'll be visiting the Ford dealer soon. Car is almost paid off too. RIP. Edit: Also forgot to mention, #2 plug was much harder to remove compared to the others. I think we might be beginning to experience this issue. Dont know how I'm just now coming across this..... But you know how many Focus ST owners that have no clue this is going on..... I've told alot of people about this problem back in 2014 when just before I retired from the shop, another problem Ive seen from the 2.0ltr ecoboom errr I mean boost 😅 is the crush washers on the coolant line to the turbo failing around 80k-150k( W713212-S300 ) I literally do this every plug change, time it for an hour and check for wetness, because the 1st time I did my plugs in 2021 6mo after buying my 2017 Focus ST, I scoped my cyls, all 4, and they were all clean, and You know that weird feeling you get as a tech, that feeling youre about to be doing alot of work you shouldnt have to do, yeah i had that one. Well I hooked my MAC Tools leak down tester up, and it held, and so i went 30 more mins just as a precaution, still held 21psi, I was seriously relieved.... But also running 1 step colder plugs and 91octane+ and extra precautionary measures, because its a turbo'd engine, cylinders and pistons are still pretty clean for 99,788 miles(literally did a spring tune up, fresh oil, valve check(carbon buildup) new plugs, cyl psi check, leak down on the coolant system, and scoping the cylinders, and scoping the turbo as well, both turbine and compressor housing making sure the prop shaft is good, but I did smell a slight coolant smell a cpl days ago and went ahead and did my spring tune up, amd saw a small speckle of cooked coolant so i pulled the crush washer and got it put back together, all good for now, but as a prior Ford Tech myself I still cant believe this tsb had never turned into a full out recall or a complete recast on the block and reissue, yeah it'll be a cpl billion to replace, but its better than beng sued for a 12-15billion because of how long this has been going on anf the amount of vehicles thst use the 2.0ltr engine.... Reminds me of the Focus RS head gasket problem 🤦 Man I'm glad there are still dealership techs out there going as far as I used to when I worked on the Publics vehicles. I have a 2017 Ford Edge SEL with just over 100k miles. It too has started using coolant. It gave the code PO304 and I replaced the sparks plugs. But it still idles rough at times. No coolant leaks in the garage. I bought the vehicle new and the dealership said they put a LIFETIME WARRANTY on the Engine and Transmission. I’m taking it in to let them diagnose the problem. But it seems like it’s the same issue other Ecoboost owners are having and needs a new block.

I got an used Edge 2016 around 6 months ago from a very reputable dealership in Burlington ON. The very next day vehicle started showing a check engine light, back to dealership they cleaned the spark plugs and light was gone. Next day the engine light again came on, I came to know about this known issue of coolant leaking into the cylinder. Went back to dealership and left my vehicle there and told them I either need a it fixed once for all or I have to take it concerning authorities as the vehicle was certified. They were kind enough to put a brand new engine and gave me replacement car meanwhile. After the new engine the vehicle is running great, haven’t got any issues.

Super Great Information, my son has the following codes with his 2017 Focus ST 2.0. With 32,764 miles. I was able to pull the following 4 codes from DTC. 3 codes are showing on your factory lab top computer that was in this awesome video. Took vehicle to Ford dealership due to it being under warranty. My son end up installing a program that VOIDED Warranty. My son being 21 years old. He doesn’t know. ( he’s going to learn the hard way) I ask dealership to proceed at my sons cost. But they did not want to deal with vehicle and still charged my son $140 to void warranty. I found a brand new factory long block for $3500 dollars. Which is not bad. My son works and has excellent credit. With car being paid. He can afford it. But I’m old school and just have a few questions prior to proceeding. 1. PO217 -engine coolant over temperature condition 2. P0316 -misfire detected on startup (first 1000 revolutions) 3. P1026- (ECT)1/ (CHT) 2 correlation 4. P1285- cylinder head over temperature condition 5. Engine coolant was Low 6. White smoke exiting exhaust 7. Attempted coolant system pressure test didn’t exceed 21 psi. System wouldn’t build pressure due to large leak. I hope you can help or gave me advice on the following questions. 1. Why are you recommending that the long block be changed out. I understand that it would be best, is this a Ford dealership standard? But there might be some people who can’t afford this. 2. I’m looking to have head pressured tested and resurfaced if head holds test. 3. If head holds. Will replacing head gasket be efficient?

It's because of the poor Machining that they did between the cylinder walls they put these big long coolant passages in the old style motor and they found the best way to actually fix everything is by putting an updated cylinder head and block in the vehicle because the old design will just leak again

Ha! Isn't that something, my 3.5 v6 (same year, SEL AWD w/ factory tow package) used to lose about of half of its coolant from the reservoir every 4 to 6 months. I would always have it topped off at oil changes. No evidence in the oil and no evidence of a leak anywhere execpt in the Summer while running the a/c you could smell, smell it lingering in the garage sometimes. That was always disregarded by service. I also had that loosey goosey feel in my left passenger side tire with a periodic clunking sound, I would have to be real careful in corners as I almost had it get away from me a few timesn even when going slow. The front end on that side would dip down and pull that bulky rearend into a fish tail. Thankfully I have driven cars many years ago with bad suspension components, you learn not to panic and maintain control. I always had that checked and was always told everything was tight up in there. It had a slight fluttery feel (alignment was always checked, always drove straight and held it there) to it in the steering wheel on a smooth highway in that front passenger and I always had to be real careful about fast moves and hard braking.. be extra, extra careful in the rain. But that tire always seemed to have premature wear (all tires would be at 8, that one at 7) on every rotation and I would have bring that wear issue up to service only to have that to disregarded, they would tell me the tech checked everything. I think a four banger is not enough for a mid suv that is roughly 4200 pounds. The salesman kept trying to push me in that direction in between all his incessant bragging about Ford switching over to electric vehicles. I kept telling him I wasn't there for an electric car or some puny, underpowered 4 banger. I later talked to a tech during a diagnostiv drive that told me about these ecoboosts.. what a nightmare.

I don't like putting anti seize on spark plugs because of the fouling that has happened where the anti seasons of getting on the spark plug end and believe it or not the roughness between the threads and the contact of the cylinder head helps lock everything in
@keithwiebe1787
@keithwiebe1787 3 жыл бұрын
I'm a mechanic for 40 years. Don't believe in anti seize on plugs except on the part of the plug (not threads) on the 3 valve Fords where the plugs tend to seize in the head. Haven't had any problem if the plugs are changed once in awhile. Did break a plug in my 2000 Explorer 5.0 and an easy out got it out. Hadn't changed the plugs in 135k miles and think the rust weakened the plug where they're fused together. Anti seize makes a mess of things and even on wheel studs it makes a mess. A drop of oil on wheel studs is all that's needed.
