A message from Kristine, founder of NurseInTheMaking📣
My name is Kristine and I survived nursing school…and you can too!
Nurse In The Making was inspired during my time in nursing school. I immediately struggled and decided to create my own study guides. These guides have helped me personally as well as many others make nursing school just a little more manageable. I hope you find comfort knowing that everyone struggles at times. Nursing school is emotionally and physically draining. I hope these informative, clean, and simple guides help you navigate through all the information because there is A LOT of it in nursing school.
Happy Studying Future Nurses. Don't forget to enjoy the journey!

31 yr LPN here, returning to nursing school with the end goal of DNP (Lord Willing). My brain doesn't seem to learn as much or as easily as it used to when I first went to LPN school. Your teaching and memory tricks are a LIFE SAVER! You have such a gift for putting the puzzle together to make it very easy to understand and to see how the components work in synchrony. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR GIFT WITH ALL OF US!!

Hospitals in Denmark does not follow up on side effects and weight when using diuretics. I almost died from kidney failure from 3 months use on Furosemide. Have permanent damage now and suffer from kidney dissease because of that. Medicine should only be used when there is no other option, and patients should be informed much more about the effects and side effects of medicine in general. And most medicine should only be used shortly if possible.

potassium 5.3 too high and you are to administer a potassium-sparing diuretics therefore it should be reported before administering the medication

Oftentimes, this will come from the pharmacy with 0.9% sodium chloride. But, the pharmacy will have this mixed for you and ready to infuse in the hospital setting. I hope this helps answer your question!

Experiencing edema as I type, I went to the hospital and they told me my blood work was negative my pressure was okay . But I know my diet is a little off, and I've been going to the gym forever. I'm a bus driver and I sit for hours on end. So can there be anything else I can do?

Ugh, but why does Potassium 5.3 need to be reported if Spironolactone prevents reabsorption of the low Sodium and has no effect on Potassium? Sure, it should be reported, but how does low sodium still indicate giving a sodium wasting medication? Sodium is also extremely precise before causing neurologic symptoms. This stuff never makes any sense. Answers just feel randomized.
@NurseInTheMaking
@NurseInTheMaking 21 күн бұрын
Hi there! Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic, which means the body holds on to or keeps potassium. A potassium level of 5.3 is considered elevated, and if the body is holding on to more potassium due to the use of spironolactone instead of wasting (or getting rid of it), the potassium level could continue to increase.
