Hey! This is a bit of a lengthy video, but I feel a lot of videos about rosacea are very to the point and that doesn’t truly reflect the time it takes / journey you must take in order to help deal with rosacea. There are no quick fixes and results / causes are different from person to person. I talk about nutrition as well as the products I use to help control my rosacea towards the end of the video 💜

I really enjoyed this video and look forward to the part 2! I also have mild redness (not diagnosed by a derm) and I had no clue it could be related to food, which also makes sense because i sometimes have digestive issues. I was diagnosed with arthritis at 16 and started taking medication that made me photosensitive, so I always thought it was related to this.

Came here to say this as well. IgG tests will basically tell you you are “intolerant” to foods that you eat regularly, because if you eat that food, that food’s antibody will be present.

I also had a doctor tell me I had a “leaky gut” and severe rosacea and then had me buy over a dozen supplements and vitamins. Also tried to get me to do the apple cider vinegar treatment as well. I lost weight but it did not help my skin at all. Another dermatologist put me on Isotretinoin for a few months and it dramatically reduced the redness. Not saying it will work for everyone but it is so much better now after that treatment.

YES, thank you! I swear, for such a common and frustrating skin concern, it’s amazing how little the skincare community really talks about the rosacea and the struggle that comes with it. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you talking about this, it makes me feel much less lost. I do so much skincare and in a lot of ways my skin is very good, but sometimes it feels like there’s nothing I can do with this damn rosacea.

I don't have a source, but I also have looked into the topic and recall more than one doctor stating there is no such condition. Chances are they would be familiar with some of the scientific literature on the topic if such literature exists.

I'm really glad you've had a positive experience but I'm a bit concerned by parts of this video. You can qualify as a nutritional therapist in two weeks via an online course, buy the insurance and do exactly what she is without any further training. Not saying that's what's going on but she isn't a dietician or a doctor and in an interview she recommends putting things like baking soda, lemon juice and cinnamon on the skin (cayenne on the lips for a 'plumping' effect??!). It feels a bit like it's a supplement selling racket attached to the clinic that gives people an easy answer and solution to a complicated problem. Mainstream medicine isn't perfect and some alternative treatments do work but this kinda has mlm energy (not suggesting James is embroiled in an mlm but that a lot of the 'wellness' industry is). Again not trying to spread any hate, I just know people who have spent big money on supplements and consultations and were basically taken advantage of by ppl who had no idea what was wrong with them but pretended they did and I think folx need to be cautious when they're vulnerable and looking for answers.

IPL definitely works. I've had about 12 treatments in total, most recently I had 5-6 in 2020, and it definitely reduces the ever-present redness, but the technician has to know what they are doing. I had an aesthetician do it each time, and thankfully they both did a good job. Sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and barely recognize myself because I'm seeing my face as it is supposed to be, instead of a red mask. I think one reason you don't really see many if any actual doctors administering IPL is that the process is not covered by insurance. Insurance companies (at least in the US) are very picky about what kinds of skin conditions they will and won't cover, and many symptoms of rosacea are considered cosmetic and kind of dismissed and belittled despite the fact that these symptoms can have profoundly negative impacts on quality of life. So these IPL treatments are pretty much exclusively paid out of pocket and range from about $200-$300 per individual session, and best results typically happen within 3-6 sessions over a period of months. The lack of coverage definitely sucks, but the results speak for themselves. People just need to make sure they do their research on the reputation of the clinic / person who will carry out the procedure. It is definitely not a scam when done correctly.

Rosacea is an inflammatory reaction of the skin, just like allergies so of course the diet can be a trigger, I stopped dairy for years ago and from then my rosacea has decreased by like 70% and every time I eat anything with dairy in it I have a flair up.
@oceansdeserts4446
@oceansdeserts4446 2 жыл бұрын
@@nad0862 I stopped all dairy for over a decade as it was my biggest trigger (I don't have the traditional food triggers and my rosacea is a bit untraditional, too). For some reason, I can eat dairy again. It may be that I get IPL every other month on my midface, but I'm just speculating. I have acne rosacea (99% cleared with various topical Rx meds which also may have helped with the dairy trigger), ocular rosacea/meibomitis that is hard to resolve, and telangiectasia under my eyes and on my lids, around my nose and mouth, and near my cheekbones which I treat with IPL every other month rather successfully (I cannot get it on my upper lids, though). I never flush or have a red nose or cheeks, hence being atypical. Anyway, I thought I was the only one with dairy issues in the past. I also recall avocados increasing the acne rosacea. I'm also the only one in my family to have gotten rosacea (it showed up in my mid-30s) so it's a bit of a mystery.

Omg thank you James. When I was younger I had acne and it made high school tough. Now that I'm older, the acne has gone (mostly) but I constantly have that "freshly slapped cheek" look. It has gotten a little better since I really got into skincare but I don't wear a lot of makeup now that I'm older, if any. And its definitely never full coverage. I honestly place my personal rosacea worse than acne when I was a kid. I absolutely hate it. I've been thinking about IPL also because of the burst capillaries around my nose and cheeks. Not sure what qualifications that woman has but “leaky gut” is not a medical diagnosis. Also, telling people to drink acid when they have reflux is terrible advice. Having a low acid level in the gut is rare and usually associated with certain disease processes that would show up on a biopsy during endoscopy. She also does not understand the pathophysiology of reflux. It is a mechanical problem. The lower esophageal sphincter does not close properly allowing gastric contents to reflux at higher rates than normal. The only “fix” is surgery which is a last resort when lifestyle modifications and acid reducing medications like omeprazole cannot keep symptoms controlled.

Hey, thank you for this comment! I would like to let know that some massages and alternative medicines, like acupuncture, are really efficient in treating that problem. One of my former colleague's husband was diagnosed with this issue, and told to take medicines for life or get surgery. But he got healed by massage therapy, I am sorry I don't have more precise infos about this. As you said, it is a mechanical problem, and working directly with the body is really helpful. He did not have any issue afterwards. I hope it can help. Have a nice day :)

It's been 2yrs no pain meds unless an occasional Tylenol for headaches. I don't drink redbull anymore, I eat healthier, green veggies etc, and push myself to working out even if just me dancing w pups in living room and I feel great! Do I get pain w rain and bad weather, hell yeah and w stress, but nothing like before! I still cheat and eat treats ofc but I am mindful of sweeteners. The synthetic sugars cause me to get Fibro flares terribly! I am going to try a nutritionist too, I want to see how to get myself healthier overall and see what causes my skin to flare. I break out w eggplant and now zucchini...same family I believe, but certain things like dairy and carbs seem to bloat me up ! Also thinking the gut leak was where I left off w my GI Specialist. There CAN be an underlying cause for both problems as both are inflammatory responses. Stress CAN cause this, but before just settling with this explanation you should take a breath test for heliobacter pylori a bacterium that can live in our stomach and cause inflammation there. It is easily treatable and the main cause of heartburn or stomach pain.

Someone with mild rosacea here! When I have a flare up I have noticed that stopping the use of exfoliants (I only use AHA's) for a bit and focusing on my basic cleanser and moisturizer really calms the redness down. The cleanser I use is the Krave Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser and the moisturizer is the Eucerin Redness Relief Cream. For that instant relief I use an ice roller or the Avene Thermal Spring Water Mist. I also have been incorporating other tips from James such as leaving skin damp while applying products and not washing my face in the morning if it's not necessary. Thank you James for all the great advice!

This was so helpful, Rosacea's not always addressed as much in the skincare community especially for a younger demographic, i look forward to trying some of these products and tips out. I definitely think that there's a big correlation with the digestive system as i too struggle with mine- It might be worthwhile looking into the link between H-Pylori bacteria in the stomach/gut and rosacea especially if you suffer from reflux, acid, gastritis or stomach ulcer based issues too. So happy about the video! I myself have rosacea and I've been controlling it mainly with what I eat. No wheat products (there are a lot of alternatives, no worries), reduced sugar ( I tend to 'blossom' a lot when I eat sugar and wheat in combination), reduced alcohol ( I only drink on weekends and only a maximum of 3 glasses per day) aaand I've been eating lots of anti-inflammatory foods (there's a bunch of lists on the internet), oh yeah and no products containing lactose (again, lots of alternatives). I hope this helps somebody, since it helped me a lot in addition to getting rid of skin care products with parfume and not taking hot showers (airing your bathroom while you shower also helps, because it doesn't get so humid).
