What top water would you recommend for a muddy Texas lake?
@stoneysdead689
@stoneysdead689 3 жыл бұрын
I threw my truck into drive and went to the spillway- where the water's 10-15 degrees cooler, much shallower, and they still tend to relate to cover- and the bottom quiet often. Been doing great on crankbaits in the current and jigs and Texas rigs around the steeper banks with cover on them- tree roots usually. Top waters from 4- 5 am to 6 am- then I go to the other stuff I mentioned. That top water bite seems to die about 20 min after sunup- 6 am. Then the cranking bite dies about 30 minutes later and it's time to go hit the cover- the sun has usually driven them out of the current and into the tree roots to hide. That's when the craw imitations come into play- I imagine the tree roots are full of them. The only issue I have is that they're so close to your feet when they bite at this point it's hard to set the hook properly.

Lots of shallow water, soft bottoms, and grass here in FL. When they're suspended here they're often in grass. Using weedless worms with light weights, weedless jigs and Texas rigged swim baits mostly. Because of the grass and hydrilla we can often fish topwater all day and, like you said, get them to "feed up."

Edwin, once again, you have helped me (a weekend angler) unlock some the mysteries of seasonal bass fishing patterns that I have struggled with, connecting the dots. This video is a perfect example. I have often seen increased surface bass activity particularly in the early morning and late afternoon during the peak of summer. I never knew when to make the adjustment to the thermocline. Being primarily a jig and worm fisherman, I have lived and died by fishing these baits. As I continue watching your videos, I am finally connecting a lot more dots and putting the pieces of the puzzle together of where I have gone wrong in the past. I can not over state how much I appreciate you sharing your vast knowledge with us.

Spot on E! Great video as always! I'll usually start the morning before sunup throwing topwater, Berkeley Spin Bomb or Whopper Plopper 75. Then hair jig or swim jig once I find where they're holding. I've also had great success with a 10.5" ribbon tail worm T-rigged behind a 3/16 tungsten, never leave home without it.....
