The Bahamas Caves Research Foundation is conducting exploration of a deep cave known as Deans Blue Hole, located on Long Island, The Bahamas. The first diver to the bottom of Dean's Blue Hole was Cave Diver Jim King. He descended 663 feet to the bottom of the blue hole and is still the only diver to do so. His team also discovered a small cave entrance in the side of the blue hole at a depth of 150 feet. Due to back mounted cylinder configurations, his team was limited to a few hundred feet of exploration before the passages became too small. With side mounted configuration and rebreather technology, the Bahamas Caves Research Foundation has been able to explore much more of the cave and we continue to do so. The highly decorated room that was found on this dive was a complete surprise. These formations are a minimum of 10,000 years old, but future research at this site will give us the true age of the formations.

I swear life is so fascinating . It’s like you are almost on another planet there. Thank goodness for people brave like yourself, so we can see footage of stuff like this.

Somehow, in the freedivers temple, you go deeper and further in to the unknown with scuba gear. I felt like I was watching Neil Armstrong walk on the moon for the first time. Thank you, explorer.

That cave was dry at some point. Stalagmites do not form underwater.

There’s a sense of humility caves bring. They’re beautiful and intimidating, like looking into the open mouth of a tiger.

I thought Deans was the 3rd deepest in the world. With Taam Ja' Blue Hole being the deepest(haven’t hit bottom yet) and Dragon Blue hole is the 2nd deepest. I may be remembering wrong.

How do these stalagnites and stalactites form underwater?
@jamescaldwell9608
@jamescaldwell9608 Жыл бұрын
Excellent question! They don't form underwater! Ten thousand years+ ago, sea surface levels were MUCH lower than they are today. Those stalagmites and stalagtites formed over 10 thousand years ago and were preserved when the sea levels rose following the end of the ice age! Really cool that you can see+prove the existence of massive changes in sea level over time simply by diving "into the past". And to think, people have a hard time believing our coastal cities could be totally flooded in a few centuries. Well, take a look, 160 feet below sea level and there's stalagmites! I recommend getting an OrcaTorch D910V light. It’s only $360, and it’s a whopping 5000 lumens brightness. Super bright

Amazing! Is that also a stalagmite on the left at 4:08 & 4:22 it looks so flat.
@Yamyatos
@Yamyatos 3 жыл бұрын
You are right that thing looks a bit out of place. But the one towards the left looks nearly as flat / straight, just not as clean. So maybe it fell off and brushed itself in the process.. dunno, doesnt really sound convincing but i'm definitely not gonna dive down to check haha.
