OMFG...😓....I just found out that Mr. Elliot Rubinson, CEO Dean Axes, Thundering Undertow of Bass for MSG & many more, Salesmeister of Great Will, had passed away, within a couple years ago, (Presently 5/‘18), Brain Cancer. I’m just aghast. Rock In Peace, Mr. Rubinson, & thx so much for bringing Dean Guitars back to glory. 🤘

Most guitar companies either copy Fender or Gibson. I love that Dean has it's own style. Not copying anybody!! Cool!
@superdave21127 жыл бұрын
Lesleigh LeLievre in fairness, Gibson was the original designer of both the "V" and the Explorer (what Dean called a "Z") which is why as a teen in the 80s, I wanted a Dean "ML." Gibson released the Flying V and Explorer in 1958. They were made of korina wood from Hawaii, and a huge flop. They made a comeback in the late 1960s. Dean guitars began in 1976/77. Dean Zelenski, founder, was born in 1957, one year before Gibson released the Explorer, Flying V, and ultra rare Moderne.

Ah, I stand corrected. Lot's to know about guitars. I learn more daily. Thanks!

Lesleigh LeLievre I'm just getting old and was lucky enough to have a big, cool, purple music store to go to as a teen. The entire building was purple. Rock World. No high school band instruments there. They had a wall of Marshalls, and tons of Deans with WICKED big headstocks. They were all way out of my price range. I did buy a 1978 Ibanez Iceman from them. Still have it. IC-210. Ended up being a super rare model, but nobody knew it at the time. Rock on!

What's to copy? A neck, a head, a body. Make it well with good electronics... Some didn't. Guess who?
@danielyoung4516 жыл бұрын
Lol, the only thing original is the Headstock. Read Deans blog, he literally copied Gibsons V and Explorer, the ML is a copy of the two spliced. He also even called Gibsons paint company manufacturer and asked for a can that was produced the same day and time as Gibson - So even the paint blend is Gibson. The company is literally born from Gibson.

I've got an 82 Tobacco Burst ML signed on the headstock by Dean Zelinsky himself. My other Deans are made in Korea .. The Dime Tribute ML Tobacco Burst plus 2 Dean Z's both black one with the V headstock and finally a fully bound Z with gold hardwear.. I love them all, but my US ML with the v neck profile is something very special.... Plus being signed by Dean with the **/50 underneath his makes it extra special.... I'll never sell it … Ever !!!

That BlueBurst bass was mine... it was a custom order through Music City in Port Credit Ontario. There was a matching pink burst one too. It originally came with cream DiMarzio pickups that sounded terrible... so I put in the EMGs... I had to move the Badass bridge too. I just couldn't get it to intonate. It has a monster custom case... and a whole bunch of round marks on the back from an '80s studded belt. It's history... I have no idea how he got it though...

Killer collection. I always loved Dean guitars. They built whatever the fuck they wanted and you either bought it or moved on. They took a big hit on quality at one point during ownership changes, but I truly believe they are getting back to that beloved status as a great name. Now their custom shop has always been top notch. I am talking about the general public factory.

1980 I went into a music store in Dayton Ohio and I had a choice between a Gibson XR Les Paul and a Dean Flying V with a Flame Maple top, Block inlays and Tobacco Sunburst finish. I chose the wrong one. I have less regrets over marriage decisions. That Gibson was an absolute chuck of shite.

I used to have a Dean Z88 Guitar with a Kahler locking tremolo back in 1990. It was black, Charvel/Jackson style headstock, 1 sealed humbucker and 2 sealed single coils pickups. 1 volume and 1 tone knobs and 3 silver toggle switches. I traded a 1988 Fender Squire Bullet Strat and $100.00 for the Dean. I got it from a small shop in Hollywood called American Guitars on Sunset and Gardner near Guitar Center and Jabco amps. I wrote about it on Harmony Central 20 years ago.

I had a Dean e'lite back in the early 1980's, it was blue burst with with binding and Bill Lawrence Pick-ups ... I bought it new at the Guitar Shop in Scottsdale, AZ ... I sold it to a co-worker in the late 80's and before I could buy it back, it was stolen from his home ... if anyone has a lead on this 30 year old mystery, let me know ... I'd love to find that guitar again!

Best kept secret is out.... Recently bought a Evo Special 2nd hand off ebay as a project to mod, but this thing is way better than I expected, Flame Maple 1 piece top, mahogany body/neck, Grover tuners, and some rocking standard Hums, seriously close to my 91 Les Paul custom sound wise, but way better finished in some areas. Is this a fluke? Best bit is it cost me 300 quid 😎 It's pretty mint condition, so I'm gonna keep it as is, gotta feeling the value will increase. Hello Dean, and thank you 🤙

I like the look of the original headstock better, but the "shrimp fork" style has straighter string pull and probably stays in tune better. I always wanted one of these original USA guitars in the early 90s when I first started playing. Now the prices are outrageous.

Although I respect you gathering up the original 70s and 80s Deans, I also think it sucks. I am a kid (born in 68) of the 70s and 80s, and used to drool over them at Rock World. I'd love to own a real one now, but if you buy them all back, I can't very well do that! Sweet collection, just the same. Somewhere I have a picture of me, with a tangly mullet (I might add), after shredding on a Cadillac. I should have bought it back then, I guess! That was at Superior Music and Sound, after Rock World closed its doors. They had all the cool stuff! I am pleased to see a guy can at least buy a US made one again. I really want a BIG ass headstock! #1 or #2.

At 6:56 when he talks about the Z my heart stopped, I'm not sure what year it is but I bought one for £70 (UK) and decided to fill in the dents and scratches, it's the body's hanging in my bedroom with primer on it ready for the colour coat to go on. Have I made a mistake? I know that I'll be contacting Dean about the ML I've got before working on that one! I was thinking of giving it a new paint job and inlaying a dime (coin) into the body with Dimebag's date of birth / death as a tribute.

what can you tell me about a dean ml with the shrimp fork headstock and a 6 digit serial number. Roger Troutman of Zapp owned it before me and his name is on the guitar using the Zapp bumble bee incorporated into the R in his name. it also has the Floid rose tremolo but looks a lot more flush to the body than the one on Dime bag's guitar. it may have been a custom job for roger done by the Fujigen plant in Japan . tho. that is speculation on my part so IDK. when I bought the guitar I was told the security tape on the case was from the last tour roger did in Japan. there is an 87 in the serial number so I have always assumed it may be an 87.

I've just bought a Dean superstrat here in the uk made between 1986 1997 USA on the tip of the headstock, so that's the Tropical Music shop or Dean's dark period. 24 frets HSS pups the SS are angled not a V headstock more like fender type and a Floyd Rose. Serial number on the last fret 20317 but it means nothing as I've looked all over the internet for this guitar and I am struggling.for information. I paid £225 for it

@Ikillintel17 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the Concrete Sledge that some say has a Jackson(Jackson /Charvel) neck , you're wrong. If you'll google search images of Dimebag you'll eventually come across one with him and James Hetfield together, the white Dean ML Dime is playing is the one you're talking about. It was a Custom Shop guitar and his name was in gold leaf on the headstock, it broke , Dime & Grady put a Washburn neck on it from an older 80s model guitar. Dime had Ric paint it and the Sledge was born. \m/ None of his guitars had bolt on necks.
