@@user-do2ev2hr7h I mean, it's a bit of a running joke that Worf is terrible at poker, often miscalling a bluff or folding when the pressure is on, Geordi swears up and down that he doesn't use his visor to see through the cards and Data similarly claims that he doesn't use his abilities to give him any advantage in the game. He could easily stack the deck or count the cards with a brain like his, but he doesn't. He's also terrible at reading people's intentions and underlying meaning. Riker is a master poker player, but beyond that, still just an average guy. They're people that *could* easily use their abilities to win the game, but they don't, most likely because they play it for fun in their off hours and want the atmosphere of their game to stay fun and loose. And yes, I am way overthinking a small detail of an old show, lol.

Agreed. There could, and should, have been so much more to her character. They failed Deanna like they failed Chakotay. Weak character development and writing. I'm glad it didn't turn Marina off from Trek, because she's an absolute riot at events.

Face of the Enemy really showed her skill as an actor. She was a badass Romulan.

Glowing recommendations based on *actual* exceptional service. Also, hadn't the Enterprise-D been destroyed in Generations by this point? Barclay's shore appointment may have started out as a temporary assignment while waiting for a new ship, but became permanent.

Barclay is a genius that thinks outside the box.

On TNG she was such a fluff character. I mean, they didn't even require her to be in uniform, which was ridiculous! In this scene she looks like a professional counselor who works for Starfleet, not just some pretty face to sit next to Picard and say "he feels bad."

Because 80's & social expectations. Same reason Troi and Crusher smashed pots over peoples heads instead of sword fighting in the Robin Hood-episode, ironic as Sirtis & McFadden being two who had experience of sword training. Social norms has unfortunately cuccedeled up a fair amount of characters from being what they should have been. Though I think psychologist always have a place everywhere as mental health is the basis of everything important, I never understood her place on the bridge. She should be in her office, like Dr Crusher, unless certain circumstances called for her presence. The writes admitted they didn't really know what to do with her.

Mintylight She was supposed to be the ships counsel, as in, she counselled the captain when he was making important decisions. And since she could sense other people's emotions, she could help him communicate with alien species.

Actually, it was a two-parter called "Chain of Command." "Face Of The Enemy" was where Troi was disguised as a Romulan.

@@tekkensentai i think in that episode where emh from voyager visited zimmerman on jupiter station and needed troi, reg called her on the enterprise and troi mentioend they were like 10-15 light years from the sol system on a mission. i can't imagine why the enterprise-E is that close to the sol system when they're supposed to be doing deep space exploration or deep space assignments. just to give you a idea how vast space is even with warp drive. to travel at warp 9 for 24 hours all you travelled was 1.996 lightyears. (TOS scale) now if you go by TNG scale fine let's double the speed 4 lightyears in 24 hours. so let's imagine the enterprise actually going on deep sapce assignments at the edge of federation space which is 8000 lightyears from the sol ssytem it would take them 5-6 years

@@joeswanson733 Enterprise is the Federation's flagship which means, in addition to deep space missions, it is also assigned to a fair amount of diplomatic missions in Federation space. Especially during or even post Dominion War, the Enterprise likely had to do quite a bit of diplomatic missions.
