This man was truly the greatest of all time. He had personality, humour, wit, courage and man could he fight! Even when he criticised or agitated opponents, he did it in a humorous way. He did go overboard with Joe Frazier (who was a great man himself) but we all make mistakes. Look at most so-called Boxers these days - All F this and F that etc. RIP Ali.

Boxers today try to copy Ali's cheeky smack talk, but end up looking like charmless douchebags, unlike Ali who was as charming as it can get!
@Nkosinati6 жыл бұрын
LongLongLists ...(smile) Most white people (and some non-white) thought Ali was a douchebag in the '60's too! The greatest popularity shift started during Vietnam, when people started seeing he was a genuine man of conviction--- that he was not talking just to serve himself, but to serve others. That being said, i still think some of the Frazier comments were very douchebaggish and over the top; but i think we accept it because even great men aren't perfect.
@naroulin92795 жыл бұрын
Nkosinati, It's exactly what I think. He was always trashtalking his opponents and he said himself it was for promotion but I think with Frazier, It was something else. Promotion at first then after, it was free trash-talk meant to hurt the guy because I think Frazier was the first man Ali saw like a true rival, a man who talks back to him, who was not afraid of him and who can and did beat him. It's the only think I regret about him because I love Frazier too but like you said, nobody is perfect. At the end of the third fight in Manilla, he went to the locker rooms to find Frazier and apologize but he found Frazier's son and apologized to him. Joe Frazier didn't accepted the apologies because he said Ali should have apologized to him in person and not his son which is true. But that proved Ali knew he was wrong and regretted his behaviou towards Joe.
@bobbestofbobs5 жыл бұрын
@@Nkosinati Nkosinati Many whites in that era still held onto racist views. Ali was too ahead of his time, he'd be right at home in today's social media world. America wasn't ready for someone like Ali back then. I do agree that he was a dick with Frazier.

@@ashoksoni3689 I lived in Albuquerque and was always a huge fan of his, and I heard he was coming to town for a charity banquet at the Hilton Hotel. So the day of the banquet, I skipped my afternoon classes, and took 2 buses to get downtown to the hotel. About a half hour later, while I was sitting in the lobby, everyone started running outside, so I knew it was probably him. It was absolute perfect timing in every way for me. I just wanted to go there for a chance to maybe see him, and got very lucky. There was only about 25 people outside, because it wasn't publicized what time he was arriving, so I was up by his car really close as he got out. He was talking and signing autographs, so I handed him my picture of him that I brought, and he put it on somebody's back so he could sign it good, and I shook his hand and walked away. I waited by myself at the entrance, and as his guys were carrying some bags in, I helped them with some doors, and Muhammad saw me and waved me over with them. They had the hotel restaurant closed and roped off just for him and his guys and some local news personalities. One of his guys told me I could sit at the end of his table during lunch. It was about an hour and he finally got up to go to his room, but as he walked by, I got to tell him how much he meant to me all my life, and he was so nice and kind, and before he walked away, he put his fist to my chin and made that cool 'tough' face that he would often do to pretend to be angry or intimidating, and then smiled and patted me on the back as he walked away. I'm kind of old now, but it's one of the greatest days of my life, and I remember it so clearly! I still have my autographed picture too! Sorry to type such a long story, but I'm happy to tell it. Thank you for asking!!🙂🥊🥊
