I did not use the SLSA in my bombs because they are not a favorite of my customers, with that being said, these are the hardest bath bombs I have ever made. In a few hours they are rock hard and these can actually break a window or do some damage if you hit someone in the head. Thanks so much for the recipe.

Great video Dean :-D Getting better and better. What I do for my bathbombs (that we used to make in Lush) is that I also mix in some melted (refined) Cocoa Butter.. the refined version doesn't have that cocoa bean choccy smell.. but its the 'no fail' part of the recipe. Also no need for any spritzing in this at all ... my 'LUSH' recipe is: Citric Acid = 1 cup (7.4 ounces) Bicarbonate = 2 cups (17.03 ounces) SLSA Agent = 4th of a cup Kaolin Clay = 10 grams Cream Of Tartar = 4th of a cup Refined Cocoa Butter = 1/2 cup (3.02 ounces) Fragrance Oils = 1 tablespoon Colourings

Tia Lieu Hi there Tia.. yes some people use other butters besides the Cocoa butter, so you could try it, I would say it would have the same effect. I melt mine down and add that to the dry ingredients, you dont need the clay, I have left it out and just used the Creme of Tartar on its own. Let me know how they turn out :-)

I'll be trying your recipe this morning. I did switch up the recipe a bit cause I didn't want the coarseness of Epsom salt or grind it either so I'm subbing corn starch instead. Hope I picked a suitable sub. I'm also using grape seed oil. It was tricky converting the mls & grams to cups & oz. so I had to estimate on things. I'm using a mica powder & frosting mine w a bubble bar piped recipe. Hope it goes well. Also using some of the mixture in a silicone mold. Last time I did that they all crumbled. Maybe I didn't wait long enough. Thanx for your time & sharing. 👍

The Kaolin clay is a wonderful agent for the skin (also Fullers Earth powder) and it also aids in the hardening process... I have seen some soap gurus here on youtube actually using 'Plaster of Paris' in their bombs.. I dont know what effect that has in the drainage sewerage system hehe? But some people add a tablespoon of that into the mix as well. But to be honest Dean your bombs are firm and dense enough anyway, they are the perfect size too. But putting the cocoa butter in will make a hell of a difference, also it will give you better 'handling time' and gives you more time to work with it.. no witch hazel and no spritzing .. bonus! :-)

Hi Dean, Have you ever thought about mixing all the dry and wet ingredients minus the citric acid. Then when all the ingredients are mixed together then add the citric acid. It prevents that chain reaction from adding the wet ingredients. Also, you use food dye, why not soap dye? I know food dye in small amounts is ok, just thought to keep it safe to use the soap dye.Hope you are feeling better.
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 8 жыл бұрын
Have not tried that. Might give it a try some time. I use food dye because it gives a brighter color. Mica is also nice but again pastel colors. Soap dyes for always turn out in pastel colors. Im feeling much better thanks. :)

Thank you so much for the video and the recipe!! I recently made mine but added cocoa powder etc. in addition to the amounts you recommended. THANK YOU AGAIN :).

Great video, will be doing this as soon as I get some SLSA! Can I just ask, from the videos I’ve watched if you doing these, you seem to use sweet almond oil every time. Is there a reason why or does it not matter? +Dean Wilson (SentinelCandles) Sure! imgur.com/zzLivPv I added powdered food coloring because i couldn't find the cosmetic colors i wanted. I also added some glycerin to the water in the spray bottle in the hope it would reduce the risk of fizzing (it never fizzed :-)) and because i have read somewhere that it extends the "shelf life" of the bombs. The yellow ones must have been too dry when I pressed them into the molds so they crumbled and I had to spray them again. But after the second turn they turned out nicely. I wrapped them up because I used different scents and wanted to give them as a present in those jars. Now I have to find suitable ones!

Can you change all the weight into cups
@NadineErdmann
@NadineErdmann 8 жыл бұрын
+Chlo Crick I don't think you can convert weight into volumetric measures because the volume may vary depending on granularity for example. You can try to use the proportion of the ingredients but the problem remains. I can measure cups of my ingredients next time but it will take some time until i make new bombs.

Hey Dean! I've watched this video probably a dozen times for inspiration. Now that I'm getting to actually make some of these, I have a question ... In the video you say "10 GRAMs" of sweet almond oil and "5 GRAMS" of Polysorabte 80. However, in the written ingredients, they are both measured in MLs. I'm not very good with metrics, being from the USA. Are GRAMs and MLs interchangeable like that? Thanks!

I'm making some bath bombs, and I have a question for you? I'd like to use some Micas as colorants, and to help make them more opaque, I want to use Titanium Dioxide. Would you recommend Oil Soluble, or Water Soluble? Love your videos! ☺️☺️

There are INCI maximum usage amounts for all fragrance and essential oils. Some oils can cause skin sensitivity if used over a certain amount. Please check for proper usage rates before using, but generally speaking essential oil is not stronger than a fragrance oil. Depending on the scent, comparable amounts would generally achieve similar results.

How long do you keep the bombs in the mold? The last two times I tried to do bombs, they would crack and fall apart.

+Christine O'Neal It depends on the environment you work in. It's really trial and error. If you do 5-6 bath bombs, try to release one at 10 minutes, 20,30 minutes. see which one works best.

Question ❓ Dean is it possible to salvage a big batch of Bath Bomb mix that I made wrong? I made a mix that didn't hold together it crumbled. Can I salvage it by adding all the necessary ingredients to it and remaking a new batch of bath bombs? Are should I just throw away? Ugh 😢

Dean, Great tutorial! Have a couple of questions thought after printing the ingredients. During the video you mentioned 2 ingredients; Sweet Almond Oil 10 ml and Polysorbate-80 5 ml, but in the video you stated they were grams and not ml. I have been making bath bombs for only 6 weeks now and I LOVE the fact that your recipe creates what I have trying to make. So could you tell me the above mentioned ingredients; are they grams or ml? Thank you in advance for the answer and I am eager to whip up a batch! :)

Thanks, very helpful, i also want to try the brambleberry.com colorants " lab colors" no bleed and no ring so it claims, ill be testing these colorants this week, another thingi have noticed bvelieve it or not , when you clean your tub ( remove the soap scum) from the access or left over oils from the soap the colorant is less likely to stick, i think this is due to its clean smooth surface and cant " catch or attach its self to he access dirts or scum left behind in the bath) . i will be testing this out again, we have 3 baths i will allow one bath that is hardly used to accumiliate the scum for a week and them test to see if it sticks and one in a clean bath all with food color , d&c, and michas ( michas i find tend to stick regardless) thank so much u been so helpful. nd thanks for the drops per gram information,

Hi Dean, when using goats milk melt and pour soap, should you use liquid colour so the colours are bright and vibrant? I've been using mica and the colours turn out pastel. Thank you, Kim
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 5 жыл бұрын
If your using goats milk base or any white base your colors will always turn out pastel is using liquid dye. For a solid bright color I would suggest using mica. 1 tea spoon per 1kg base (max).

Does it take the full two days to harden? I followed the recipe to the T, though I wasn't able to leave the bombs in the moods because I only own three moods. It's been 24 hours and I'm afraid my bombs are not rock hard like others are reviewing. I must be doing something wrong.

From my tests ( left over night) it did NOT stain my bath tub. Soap dyes come out to pastel.
