I always love it when Giamatti comes on Colbert. I remember the interview where they just yammered on about scifi books like the audience wasn't even there, and Paul said he only acts so he can afford to buy books and sit and read all day.

First some context. My left ear is almost useless because it was damaged by chronic ear infections as a child. I had just finished work and I readied a movie in the CD player, fixed myself a sandwich and a cocktail and sat down to watch my movie. Before I could press play, I felt a cold pressure on my right arm like an icy hand and in my left ear and my left ear only I heard an effeminate voice whisper, "Go outside." Well, my blood froze, and I thought about it for a moment and decided to heed the voices advice. It was a cool November evening the sky was clear, and the full moon was as big as I had ever seen it. It was the night of a supermoon. And on the northern horizon the northern lights were dancing across the sky. So, I changed my plans bundled up and brought my meal outside to enjoy the show on my patio.

How Cool! Can you now hear out of your left ear? I was taking my 1st Anatomy & Physiology test after my Dad died. By the time I got to the 3rd question, I started freaking out with test anxiety. I put my pen down, looked up to the ceiling, & thought "Dad, I can't do this; I need help", closed my eyes for a few minutes, took a deep breath, picked up my pen, looked down at my test, & all the answers from #4-100 were *in boldface print* I didn't even read the questions. I just circled the *boldfaced* answers. When I got into my truck to drive home, it was late at night & very dark out. No one was on the road except me. All of a sudden, the cab of my truck became ensconced in pipe smoke (think "Casablanca" smoke). I realized it was my Dad (he smoked a pipe & it was his tobacco I was smelling). I said, "Thank you for helping me on the test Dad but I really can't see out of the front window to drive; I'm going to have an accident." Immediately the smoke left my truck threw my side door window as if it had been sucked out by a vacuum cleaner. I scored a 97 on that test.

@@dee_dee_place The ear can still hear, but not very well It is maybe 20 % effective. So basically it doesn't hear much. I suppose a hearing aid or maybe surgery could help me, but the right hears just fine so it compensates in most situations. It has been gone for so long I kind of think of it as an advantage. In some social situations I tell I have trouble discerning sounds, so I tell people that I have a hearing problem. People seem to interpret that as "I'm def." So, I often catch people talking about me when they think I can't hear them.

I had a knife incident in parallel; how about you are walking toward the beach and pass a phone booth and it's ringing. Take the call and it's for you. Not saying it happened but I had to pass details that were important to my base commander in Korea and I was in America. As I asked "do you understand where I am right now?" reply was...that's not important we need to know where you stand on this evaluation of this person before I sign the document. - creepy as F [I was alone, zero witnesses] but I can understand the knife story.

I once stayed in a haunted hotel in Falmouth and heard ongoing movement above me. Like shuffling with chairs but very random. Later I asked the landlady, she looked at me and said that I was alone at that time and the place is a bit haunted with three ghosts. I told the story in the pub that evening and a guy said that people who feel a connection or even see them have been reborn more often which connects them stronger to the afterlife. You cant prove it but that seems not beyond any logic.
