Hey it’s Abby Lee Miller here and welcome to the ALDC family! 🩰
In today's video, I talk about some recent press. I've said a lot of things over the years. But as proud as I am of Maddie, I must speak from the heart. My love is with my students always. And once a student, always a student.

Two things can be true at the same time. Did the show benefit the girls monetarily and push them into the limelight…Yes! Did the being on the show also leave them with traumatic experiences…Yes! Also let’s not act like she wasn’t also benefitting from this arrangement. Their feelings are also valid and although she helped push them into the limelight she is not the primary reason for their success.

Let’s all remember that Maddie was just eight years old when her life was thrown into turmoil. We will never know what truly happened behind the scenes (Abby and the moms tell very different stories), but whatever the case is, all those girls went through something traumatic. The kid learned that she could literally do no wrong. That can’t be healthy. She also lost her very best friend. Were those things because of Abby or the producers? I don’t know. I’m just saying, let’s give the girls some grace. If they all say it was hell...there has to be some truth to that.

I understand but you have to understand the simplicity of their mindset. They were so young and overwhelmed by the cameras and the moms of course it wasn’t a “normal” dance experience. They didn’t sign up for normal, and lots of them stayed a long long time. I’ve followed the Pittsburg groups since before the show, things were not always like how they were on camera, and in order to make entertainment it literally could not be a healthy and functioning dance environment.

I feel like maybe a lot of Maddie cutting Abby out of her life had to do with her attitude in the very last episode the zieglers were in, I know that had to hurt. And no matter how Abby tries to explain herself in a nicer way here, we watched the footage of her manipulating Maddie numerous times. And something we don’t talk about is that Maddie saw first hand how Abby treated Kenzie especially in later seasons, so a lot of it could be by that association

@VictoriaIzaac

Well simply 🤷🏽‍♀️ love isn’t enough. You also need support, room to grow, room to leave and quit and move on, room to breathe, autonomy, independence, etc. It’s not enough to love someone if the environment where the love is suppose to grow is toxic and even if it’s not, love also encompasses understanding and empathy. So I think if Abby is unwilling to see Maddie’s side and her own perspective which says she was stressed and anxious which she can’t refute bc it’s Maddie’s own perspective, her own opinion and words, then it might be a sign that the the betrayal Abby feels is more than the love she actually felt for Maddie. I think this is especially true bc Abby is making this video and Maddie only ever says she was stressed at a young age and that she’s happy to be done with it and she just doesn’t talk to Abby anymore. The attention seeking from this grown woman instead of just moving on like everyone else is strange to say the least.

We know you love her Abby. We know you always truly did. She was little though. She is going to remember moms attacking her mom. You accusing her mom of being a gold digger and a criminal. The fights caused over you fighting for her. Things got to personal. A kid loves their mom and when you attack them it stings. Plus the way you treated them when they left. You weren’t proud you were angry and even though that anger was with your contract and yourself for being trapped she didn’t understand that at that age. I hope one day how much you love her is enough but there’s a lot of pain in the way.

I think Abby is attached and committed to her teaching style because it has worked for her- it has made stars- it is the way that she knows and has proven tried and true for getting the results that she wants. HOWEVER, clearly these methods have some serious downsides. I think that if Abby took the time to upgrade her strategies to figure out how to push those same buttons in the kids without tearing them down, she not only would have one of the best dance studios- she would dominate the world of dance. That level of talent that she has for creating stars and some updated healthier strategies - to still do what she’s aiming to do but in a skilled way that doesn’t break the child’s spirits- Abby is a loving person and she does make stars but her strategies have a lot of downsides (some major- giving kids esteem issues for life that need to be worked through in therapy). I think if Abby upgraded- the sky would be the limit. Plus, she would get to keep relationships and contact with her dancers, and they would not separate themselves. Abby has been through a LOT and no one is perfect. And she HAS Grown a lot, and I can’t imagine what it took to get to where she is. I think first of all Abby needs to get healing- I think she is probably harder on herself than she is on any of her dancers and that is sad and an injustice to her as well. Sending Abby all the healing vibes and wishes and prayers. ❤️ and healing reconciliations when possible with her dancers. And apologies where they are due- I also am guessing Abby may be afraid to take responsibility for any damage that some of her methods caused for the girls because maybe to her that means discrediting everything she has given and done for those girls. That’s just not true. An apology is a sign of strength, not weakness- and it absolutely does not diminish any of the positive things Abby has done for all of these girls. Incredible things. Taking responsibility earns much respect. I don’t know what happens behind closed doors and maybe they have- this is just my take. Also an apology doesn’t mean that the moms or girls are innocent either- Abby can still hold them accountable for what they need to apologize for.

Those girls liked dancing. They knew Abby could help them reach their goals. Yes, they could've gone elsewhere, but they likely wouldn't have gotten the same quality education. No one can deny that Abby put in the work, based on her training, and sacrificed time to impart her skills, knowledge, and network in order for those kids to succeed. Even if they want nothing more to do with Abby, the least they could do is show some gratitude that they had the best education in the area because of the program that Abby assembled at her company.

At those ages, especially for Mackenzie who was only like 5 or 6, and Maddie only being 2 years older, they didn't know what they were signing up for. All they knew was that there were camera's around. No one could have guessed the scope of the show when filming the first season. I think they all did the best they could with what they were given. When they got old enough, and were more experienced with Hollywood and life in general, is when they were able to reflect and decide what was best for them.

I can see how much abby truly cares about Maddie, and is hurt by the situation.Especially when she said "Maddie doesn't remember a time when she wasn't famous...but I do... " EVERY show has to have a villain and Abby was made out to be that on Dance mom's. Rewatching the show now that I'm older I can spot certain editing tricks and also understand Abby is human and wasn't always in the right. However NOBODY who doesn't love kids would give up their life, free time, and even some of the last moments their mom was alive to travel with, train, teach ect. Abby often had Maddie and kenzie when their mom went off with boyfriends, or wherever. Abby can be harsh with her methods however I can understand a lot of it came from a good place and frustration that she knew how much potential some students had yet weren't working up to it. If anyone is to blame for the toxicity on the show it was some of the producers, the absolutely horrible contract signed.
