My opinion On the love situation: Some Nigerian ladies in my school form a lot e.g there was this lady I saw putting on Ankara and I knew she was Nigerian I said hello and the reception was awful, something happened to another lady and was just telling my friends that are this ladies waiting for the Indians or other nationals to come woo them? On getting job: I can just say I was favoured because I landed in January and got a job in January but one thing I would advise newcomers to do is to know God and stick with him as you stuck with him in Nigeria 🇳🇬, when you do you will see the pace at which you move in your career and life. On the transport: I feel most people conflict Canada with the UK. Canada is too big for you not to have a car, even with the bus but the UK is quite small so the transport system works round the clock. Also Nigerians stop forming for each other.

What type of job did you get? Even Justin Trudeau will not get a job the same month he arrives in Canada. There is a process for professional jobs and the interviews and hiring decisions take longer than a month to complete. Survival jobs on the other hand can be gotten on the same day, as long as you have your safety boots. Please do not mislead people in a bid to show-off.

Nigeria is still developing; you can't compare the two. Better food & energy security is coming soon, as well as better infrastructure. Once those things are established, more opportunities will come. It's better to develop your own country, than work in someone else's

A warning to immigrants who have it well back home because I hear many complaints. Just because you are rich in your home country doesn’t mean you will be rich here. You will most likely have to struggle for decades to become middle class. If your middle class at home you will most likely be in poverty. Also keep in mind if you are a professional (doctor,banker, lawyer etc) you will most likely have to work a menial job as your qualifications may not be recognized

The biggest challenge for highly skilled and experienced immigrants in Canada is the ability to accumulate wealth. A lot of them they stay 3-5 years to get the passport and then they move to USA, UAE or Singapore

Please reconsider! Canada is not all rosy but people are also amassing wealth in their own ways. The inter-racial relationship and exposure is also a great asset.

These ladies did a wonderful job. The negatives are not really big negatives, for example the taxes are high but they are taken from your check before you get it so you don't really even see it. It's not like you have to pay it after. The taxes lead to a very high standard of living - everything form Garbage collection to road repair to social welfare programs and health care. For the Waiting in Health care - it's kind of true but kind of not true. For example if you need to see a Dr. then you can go into any clinic and see a Dr.(for medications, typical healthcare, diabetes medications, etc) If you are having an urgent health issue you go to a hospital and you will be treated - for example if you have a broken leg or a heart attack or a stroke you will be seen immediately but if you need something like a knee surgery because your knees hurt - the doctor will work with you and see what options are available and might put you on a list for surgery which could take from 3 months to 2 years - depending on urgency. But no one has had to wait if they need the treatment urgently.

Hello ladies, thank you guys for this Colab, our people back home think that in overseas, you can easily settle down and money is been swept off the ground and there's sick leaves that can excuses you to stay away, from work. In anyway abroad, if you didn't go to work or show up for work, you do get pay. Health wise, I still believed USA and Canada is the same. Now there are walkin clinics, that you can visit to see a health professional for a first aid and you will get help to make you feel better. The best thing is to save for a car, like you suggested. Good chat for new comers. Thanks.

I thought I was the only one who thought Uni back home and here are different. Studying here is not easy but it's doable. I would say to be able to navigate life here you surely need to be mentally ready and also expect anything. It's not a bed of roses but definitely gets better with time.

Good takes and sheds light on the realities of immigrants. Is Saskatoon a village? This is relative based on individual perceptions and other places you might have been. Just like they say Ottawa is a "dead city", but there are great fun places there. I may visit more places, Sask in next on my list! I am sure there are great job opportunities there that people are not aware of. As I am not a tree, I moveee!

I came to Canada as a refugee in 2009. My Haitian family and l lived undocumented in Massachusetts from 1999 to 2009. I earned a Canadian university degree. I worked security. I worked call center jobs. I became a permanent resident in 2018. I just became a Canadian citizen in 2022. Life isn't easy for black foreigners in Canada. Looking to move elsewhere to find a lady and start a family.

I think we sometimes are our own problem. What I learnt about Canada was from the Canadian immigration settlement services. I think people don’t want to read or even try to research. Am I saying you shouldn’t listen to people? No! I’m just saying, try to research and especially if you are relocating… please ask questions and you have government services who will give you truthful answers.

I’ve lived in Canada for 5 years. I’d say when it comes to dating be open minded ! Canada is diverse! Once you’re not compromising on your values you can be with anyone. Sometimes closed mindedness about race is the issue. Great job sharing tips guys! Very useful.

If you are expecting a job in Canada you better secure it here in Nigeria before flying off. I did Data Analytics and just concluded an interview with a Communication firm in Alberta. Cost of living in Alberta is low. Also in British Columbia. Wil be leaving by 3rd week of December 2022. I did a research of the city or province id be staying in: cost of living, entertainment, medicare I have no friends in Canada but im sure gonna be fine. My point? Acquire a skill you can offer and earn a good living in Canada. I personally think the ladies didnt do enough research about where they were going before leaving Nigeria

Concerning work experience, it's a lot more complicated than "different perspectives". I'm a Software engineer (recent graduate) and I can assure you that they do favour "Canadian experience". It's not the fact that your foreign experience counts for nothing but that it counts for less compared to a Canadian work experience. There's a reason why professionals back home come over here and have to initially work junior level positions for a while before attaining positions similar to those they held back home. Don't get fooled by HR reps who tell you they're "excited" about hiring new immigrants, it's an act they put on in order to display their "diversity initiatives". Long story short, your experience is not useless but "Canadian experience" is a thing.

Obviously got to be the reality of immigrants and it cuts across all professions to be honest. You don’t expect to fly across cities(to get to Canada), for way over 20 hours and still expect to be regarded in the same way(as you were in Nigeria 🇳🇬). A major reset is upon any Canadian immigrant (that’s for sure).

I see these comments about “Canadian experience” but to be honest there are exceptions to this rule and myself and husband are part of those exceptions. It really depends on what you are willing to accept or settle for, or what you are willing to challenge. I cannot overemphasize the part of declaring the word of God over your life if you are a believer, cos that was the game changer for us. We both got into good companies starting out, and did not have to settle for survival jobs. Just my 2 cents though

DRS visits, diagnostic tests, hospital visits, hospitalization, child birth, consultations, physiotherapy and other exams are covered under your provincial health card. That is for Canadian citizen, permanent resident or if you have a work permit. Medication, dental, glasses, and optometry exams are covered by your employer insurance with your contribution.

Plus in Nigeria and some other African University's you can cheat, plagiarize. Bribe for marks, sleep with lectures for marks. Those things don't happen in Canada.

You guys are doing great job, I had such experience of missed my bus while in UAE, several times, with waste off money and time, but over time,,one would get over that. Pls keep encouraging our people out there to imbibe more of foreign character while they are still at. Home so ,that can help them easily when they get down to foreign land. .at initial stage in foreign land it might be difficult to get along with laid down procedures but at end , it's and endless Joy.. I appreciate you guys for educating us ...

I love the health care part. A friend landed and was so excited to be in Canada “finally” as a PR, he wasn’t feeling too well, he told his wife to call Ambulance 😅ambulance came, took him into emergency, got treated after waiting for over 8hrs and was asked to go home. Only for the ambulance bill to be sent to him after 2 weeks 😂😂😂. He called me and was telling me how he felt it was free, the laugh that I laughed en 😂😂😂

Being treated after 8 hours is the worst. I once went into the ER at 6am because I thought I was being early. I had to get a blood transfusion. I got the blood transfusion at 8pm and got home at 2am of the following day. That's Canada's health care for you.

These things you all complain about is mostly due to lack of awareness. I don't want to say many are spoilt, but it is a truth that many Naijas love freebees. I lived in Canada for 5 years. What happens is many guys fail to do is adapt to their new environment. If you have no car, live in the city - close to the metro, street cars and bus stops. If you have no transportation, you are better off in a city like Toronto. If you go living in Suburbs like Brampton or Mississauga then you can expect transport to be a hassle. The thing I really find fascinating is that much of the things you speak about speaks to a culture of accountability and merit - this is something Naijas are not used to.

It's good to remember the saying in North America that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Something 'free' is usually paid for by someone else or through taxes of the masses. Therefore our governments need to account for all expenditures and those social programs that people like to see as 'free'.

There’s pros and cons to living in Canada I’m born and raised Pros - peaceful and clean - people are mostly polite (not friendly) - healthcare is subsidized but not free - lots of low paying jobs - less racism than in the past - multi cultural Cons - high cost of living housing , rent , heat, bills - high taxes (property, income etc ) - demanding work culture. - cold weather (colder in some areas) - competition for high paying jobs - racism still exist. ( but not as bad)

Just stumbled on this video, and I enjoyed watching it, very educative and I have heard about the not too good transport system in Canada generally too, in Europe, its the opposite here, the transport system is very good and having a car sometimes seems unnecessary except you have a family.

Let's be clear. When we say 'job'. are we talking job in your career? or offloading trucks at a Walmart or driving Uber etc? All is decent work and have their place but may keep you in one place. Also any form of government support means 'you are poor' by standards of that country/province-so it irks me when some of our people actually intentionally target these programs. As for relationship I carried my market back to Naija and environs--I no do for overseas again..hahahaha

I thought those are education standards for all universities whether you're in canada or africa🤔 And I did study in America and found it to be smooth sailing compared to what I was used to in kenya. I found their lecturers gave us way more information and support to help us get done with school work and exams compared to kenya where our lecturers just used to actually lecture and expect you to pass exams like a PhD holder 🤣 At least that was my experience with school abroad.

5 to 6 weeks to get a job. Hellooo do you know how long it will take you to get a job in naija, with your first class 2 years you still dey street. So 5 to 6 weeks to be is very fast.
