The prosthetic and makeup team really did fantastic too. That skin twist on her neck (you can really see it at 1:33) looks so realistic.. really freaky looking! I imagine that was tough to get right. Kudos to them and the whole CGI team. They did outstanding work.

Imagine how easy it is to replicate this scene with today’s technology? This was so ahead of its time tbh i wish they would do a sequel!
@hendeju4 жыл бұрын
I work with VFX, and besides the obvious evolution in this almost three decades, the way we would do it today is almost the same. We would shoot her with a blue cap and separately shoot just her head and then put it all together. But Today we would make the twisted neck in 3d.
@gbrown9324 жыл бұрын
Yeah but today it would look cheap and fake compared to using practical effects. Look at star was original vs prequels. The special effects were better in the original because those were actual real life practical effects with some computer generated to compliment it. Where as the prequels were all CGI. They really did a great job here.

I just watched this again today and man it still looks pretty dang good! I feel like they still don’t get it right in current movies. A good example is in Infinity War when Bruce Banner pops his head out of the Hulk Buster suit and yells “you all are screwed”

CGIs are supposed to be like a "flavor" or "spice" to enhance movies. The problem nowadays is that Hollywood treats CGI as if it's the "meal" itself. If they did this movie today I think they would have relied on the effects TOO much--neglecting other aspects of film like good character development, well-written dialogue, etc..

You can't imagine the "joy" of hand-matching CGI elements to a background plate, let alone individuals and objects moving about in said plate...on a system that displays only wire frames and a crude grayscale proxy of the plate...where a "quick" test rendering takes enough time to have a cup of coffee. I've spent days and nights doing that in the early 90s when there were no out-of-the-box tracking solutions.

@csababorbely34532 жыл бұрын
@@tonystark559bcos nowadays unlimited possibilites with cgi kills the ideas, creativity. if everything is possible, you arent creative. if u have limits, you are (have to be) creative, and can cause the result amazing (this is true for ALL areas of human acts). The second most important is reflecting the real world physics in CGI (movement, dynamics,speed etc). That time visual masters had the knowing of real world buildups and behaviours of interactions betweens objects. nowadays cgi masters mostly tottaly dont understand the real world physics, we can see this in the 2000's years in every scifi movies, how badly physiscs was used by these masters....im calling this syndrome "idiot shrek-like scenes", where objects/characters has idiot movements, idiot appearance, idiot interactions (there are few exceptions, like TED with mark whalberg, the bear is realy good)

Even though it doesn't really appear like it in this promotional clip, but Meryl Streep didn't like the heavy reliance on CGI effects to shoot this movie at all and vowed to stay away from similar projects in the future. You can get a glimpse into that when she tells the story of her mother visiting her on set and being disappointed to see her "acting" with a blue bag over her head.
