It's so amazing to compare this to all the previous works. Few bands cover such a diverse territory of genres/sub-genres as Death in June! It doesn't always work out right (I'm picky about several of his works), but his ability to experiment without fear has given us such a richness of tracks over the last 30 years. I feel like the original "To Drown a Rose" could have easily given Tears For Fears a run for their money, and been just as popular too. Well done, Douglas!

@TheCrew37 if that's the case, I'm wholly satisfied with the direction he's taking with Di6; I'm still having difficulty realizing that these tracks are real and not just a figment of my imagination anymore. This new Death in June reaches an echelon that neofolk progenitors only danced with, never to appreciate the length of the night with. I'm in love.

I like this a lot actually. I'm a big fan of the original. This feels pretty cinematic to me. I'm down, warts and all.

To those of you who are berating the current versions of DIJ songs. You need to have the benefit of growing up and age. Your tastes change, and you begin to appreciate different styles of music. What you listen to in your 20s will appear to be crap when you are 50. These songs are a natural and brilliant evolution to Douglas' work. If you don't understand this, you are still too young...

when a band or musical projects grow in significance ( through decades of hard working and professionalism), they're entitled to re-invent themselves ( that's called escaping the "ritual de lo habitual" thingy that indies just love to perpetuate). DIJ's music is for Everyone ( not only G-people or S-people, or "politically-disappointed" people), so once in a while, watching yourself in the mirror with a Lounge backdrop can be a tremendous of a stylistic Exercise. Thanks to Douglas P and Miro!

@Trilithonian To me, it's like when classic rock bands start to get all kind of cheesy versions of their old hits and put together numberless comps because they know, deep inside, they have nothing new to offer. those horrid, bland symphonic versions of old tunes are awful enough, but at least many of the composers have nothing to do with them, other than cashing their checks. not in this case, though, since Doug himself is the one leading the executioner...it's sad at the very least imho...

@quenecio Because every album should be Brown Book, right? If you really enjoy DiJ, how can you insist that these reinterpretations of the originals are awful? I can understand if you don't like Peaceful Snow as that'd be a different argument entirely, yet given the nature of the content it makes no sense to think this is an awful portrayal of those -- as it obviously isn't. That or pianos must have really did a number on you growing up. Who knows?

This is truly terrible... Pearce has really reached new lows... if you really enjoy DIJ, how can you enjoy this awful set of versions?
