Amateur kickboxer Dennis Munson Jr. died after his debut fight in March 2014 at the Eagles Club in Milwaukee. Independent experts say there was a cascade of errors by fight officials.

@boss sauce He wasn't hit by "pillows". He was hit by a cushioned fist. You're ignoring basics physics: mass, velocity, and force. You're also ignoring basic trauma and physiology. During the fight he had obvious gait disturbance, and loss of motor skills. At the end of the fight, he was sitting up because he was propped by others, but he couldn't support his own head. These are signs of significant trauma and injury. You're (very) clearly uneducated, but, unsurprisingly, it is the uneducated who attempt to speak loudest.

I’ve been a boxing coach for over 30 yrs and worked corners for kickboxers. I blame all of them. Both fighters weren’t that skilled,chin up in the air,bad footwork etc,but looked evenly matched. The first round I didn’t notice the bad gait or crossing of legs but the kid is still throwing kicks & punches.I thought it was just bad footwork. But the second round things got bad. The kid was getting pummeled by a kid with no power,but the ref would just break them. The kid stumbles badly and no one notices. His coach should have stopped it right then. Ref is an idiot for not noticing. It’s the kids first fight. I understand trying to push your guy but it was more than a stamina issue. His coach should have seen this along with the ref and ringside physician. If the other kid knew how to punch he might have knocked the kid down or out early it might have saved him. He might have had some underlying condition no one knew about. Did he go thru a pre fight physical. Either way these coaches put these guys in fights when they aren’t read. They are wide open for head shots. Lots of mismatches in amateur kickboxing than in amateur boxing. Lots of coaches don’t know how to control sparring. He could have been hurt in sparring before the fight. Very sad. All three of them should be banned for life!

Kid would have already had brain damage long before this fight, this doesn't just come on suddenly to this extent. There's even the possibility of vaccine harms that cause blood clots in the heart and brain to thousands of people, especially younger men. your assessment on the abilities and fault is correct but the kid being knocked out early would have made no difference to end result IMHO.
@SanderSA-ny3lh8 ай бұрын
This was your average late N-class or early C-class bout really. Fights get waved all the time there over injuries. Amateurs need more protection against themselves and pressure to perform. Everybody's more alert for injuries, even the timekeeper. Fights get stopped way sooner, waved more often, walkovers being declared are not unheard of (sometimes by the same referees who watch A class commercial fighters get destroyed without any chance at all). Even his opponent noticed the wobbly legs: You see an uptick in lowkicks early in round 2. Ussually the guy getting punched in the face is the last to notice something. 😆 The conduct of the 'physician', referee, coach and judges (in that order) is reprehensible.

I lost my x girlfriend from antibiotics. She had a reaction that stopped her heart. Stop spreading you disinformation and actually get educated. Way more unvaccinated people have died from Covid than from side effects from the shots. It's not even close. CrossWood Productions Imagine saying that to the surgeon who leaves a tool inside a patient during surgery. Hindsight’s 20/20 I agree with the sentiment, but that had nothing to do with it. The surgeon has a checklist of everything used to prevent that from happening. The doctor has a checklist of symptoms to visually scan for. He was busy on his phone for some of it. That’s straight negligence, and entirely foreseeable. The ultimate outcome may or may not have been, but he should have had medical assistance prior to the time he did.

Yeah it is arguable that the ref is the most at fault. Only reason I say the doctor is because the guy was still slightly functional, fighting, and defending himself. The ref should have stopped the fight, I agree he fucked up big time. The reason I say doctor is the worst is because he fucked up his literal ONLY job. The ref has to manage the fight and pay attention to more factors than simply the well-being of the fighters. Like I said, everyone failed.

Unfortunately, it is VERY apparent that the #1 job of these "experts" in this event was *NOT* fighter safety, but rather to put on a show. The referee DEFINITELY saw Munson's condition- it was impossible for an experienced referee like him not to notice it. But he knowingly erred on the side of "he-can-take-a-few-more-hits" rather than caution. Disgraceful that he threw aside his training like that to avoid disappointing the audience. And I can almost guarantee that it was all because the owners of Eagle club and the other managers have fostered a work environment where the workers are pressured to put "audience satisfaction" above *all else,* including fighter safety. Absolute greed.

Just realized this is almost ten years old. And after dragging out a wrongful death claim that really shouldn't have been necessary if the scumbags responsible had just done the right thing from the beginning, Munson's family was finally able to receive some compensation in a settlement with the organizers and the people who should have stopped this fight well before it s actually stopped. From the local newspaper: "The lawsuit, filed three years ago, named ringside doctor Carlos Feliciano, referee Al Wichgers, corner coaches Scott Cushman and Joe Nicols, and promoters Jeffrey "Duke" Roufus and Scott Joffe. All the parties except Feliciano settled with the family for an undisclosed amount of money in August 2018. Last month, the family decided to drop the case against Feliciano, because of damage limits under Wisconsin's malpractice law." I hope this Feliciano character is never allowed to be responsible for fighters ever again. And if you are a fighter and see this man's name involved with any fight you may be involved in? My brother has 11 amateur fights under his belt, and I've never seen this level of neglect or disregard in ANY bout I've witnessed. If I were this fighter's family, I'd be devastated and furious with the staff for not doing more but this is a rare yet still too common occurrence that comes with fighting. I've never fought a sanctioned fight and never will for this reason, always avoid any fight you can and leave it to the pros. It's simply not worth dying, may Munson rest in peace and may everyone who is brave enough to enter the ring leave with their life and health.

+Natalou All of them are at fault. I liked what one of the comentators in the video said - when you've got an amateur fighter in his first fight you have to be extra careful. Stopping the fight too early is nothing, not stopping or stopping it too late may end up in a tragedy. This also reminded me of Joe Frazier's coach (Eddie Futch I believe) who stopped the Ali fight. At first everybody cursed him, when the emotions cooled down, they blessed him for it. Aside from Munson's family and friends I also feel very sorry for his opponent. He must feel horribly. And it was not his fault. When you step into the ring you believe that not only they will not let the other fighter hurt you but also stop you from hurting the other fighter.

@Robert Kraft I know even I was watching and seeing how the fight was going to be stopped but it wasn't. I would of left the crowd and said something from the audience

Very Sad, I told my son, I didn't want him to fight. Because of this lack of Responsibility, the crew was showing. I got in a street fight, and I knocked the guy down twice, second time he smacked his head. My friends were cheering me on for fighting an older dude. But i was more concerned about him then even his friends. I told the police what happened, and they called the ambulance, I wasn't even asked who I was and no record of me at 17 kicking a 24-year-olds but is what everyone said. I road my bike to the hospital and waited in the ER for 6-hours. They said if he would have gone home, he wouldn't be alive. It only takes a few minutes of the lack of responsibility of others to have someone die in their care.

Every one of those so called "professionals" are a bloody disgrace. Shame on them for failing this young man. May he rest in peace.

There is no professionals in boxing really. This whole "sport" is an aberration.

The so-called doctor is more interested to check his phone than to look closely to the fighter! Even non-specialists can clearly see there is something wrong with the balck fighter. They sould have been prosecuted, the doc, the referee and the coach.

@@dommartin8814 in boxing/ kickboxing a fighter gets tired and most of em look like how they did there and he did come out in the 1st round all guns blazing so it was understandable for him to be feeling a bit tired and he is fighting back he's trying to block the punches the referee can't stop the fight people only say shit after the fatal situation had happened but i gurantee must ppl would've let that fight continue
@dommartin8814 Жыл бұрын
@@yahyapatel9280 It's not what is saying the doctor commenting the video, not at all! Obviously, and especially the doctor of this fight, didn't do their job. The fighter showed severe signs of desynchronization (nothing to do with the fact to be tired and also, he showed these signs very rapidly) when he walked and this should alert people around the ring. You can't find excuses to these morons. If they did what had to do, the fight would have stopped earlier and he wouldn't have died.

Damn that was hard to watch. The coach between the 2nd and 3rd round made my blood boil. Protect your damn fighter, he’s an amateur

that's the point, they're all amateur that's why this thing happened

They should charge the other fighter with murder. He’s the one that actually punched him in the head to cause his brain trauma.
@PantonePapi2 жыл бұрын
@@southchum101 yeah no….The 2 fighters entered into an agreement to box by the rules of the governing body, and they accepted the associated risks of taking part in this sport. The victorious fighter didn’t do anything wrong, he’s playing by the rules, it’s up to the coaches and the referee to protect the other fighter and look out for his well being. They failed at that task on all fronts.

@Dante Ryujin That's not even to mention that there was a literal medic right there, and the dude was just like "yeah prop him up, he'll be fine" despite him not showing literally any signs of consciousness (usually there's some sign of consciousness when you're knocked out, being either still having your hands up or trying to do something, whatever that may be). The literal only way I couldn't see this as direct negligence or murder is if he wasn't paying attention in a key moment, and thought he was just knocked out and he'd be up in a bit. Even then it'd be the most negligent continual lapse in judgement I've ever seen, and there just isn't an excuse for letting the man fight that long when showing that many signs of impairment.
@1977ajax9 ай бұрын
Don't even need any medical analysis to what went on in the last round, or even any detailed medical observation by the ref, because if a man can't defend himself, the fight is over, and if that ref couldn't see that this was the case...
