Mythos & Logos – World Mythology and Religions

Күн бұрын

This powerful story from the Kirikir?i:s, most commonly known as the Wichita & Affiliated Tribes (historic inhabitants of North Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas) is one that is very important today. We explore the Wichita cyclical understanding of history, from the cosmic and mythological scale to the personal, through two fascinating women and the always impressive Thunderbird.

One of the beautiful things about oral histories is what happens when you learn how they fit together. For instance, among the Flathead of the West is the story of a Lake Monster. Lemlmts for sharing this story.

Lemlmts Danyelle :) I had heard a similar Lakota story, but haven’t heard the Flathead one. By the way, you always have a lot of insight to share, so you or an elder or storyteller you know and trust would be willing to share some stories firsthand, I would love to host an interview to give a platform; there’s only so much that I can do being a step removed and going from writings. No worries if you wouldn’t feel comfortable with that, but thought I should extend the invite ♥️ There’s an email address on my channel page if you ever want to put something together.

I love coyote stories. I always feel sorry for the coyote cause he always gets the blame. But he’s always fearless. He’s a fantastic animal and I love the thunderbird he can be anything he wants to be too. Thanks for sharing.... ⚡️

Well said! Always fearless, sometimes too much so, and always getting the blame. Coyote sounds a lot like us indeed.

This story, and the history, definitely meet that combination. Add in a bit of “amazing” for our ability to still have these stories and the still-living culture available today :)

What do you people mean by mythology ?
@mythosandlogos
@mythosandlogos 3 ай бұрын
A great, and very important question! I view mythology as meaning “traditional symbolic stories” coming from the Greek words that make up this channel’s name, “Mythos” meaning “story” and “Logos” meaning “intelligibility, pattern, or meaning.” There is no relation between this channel’s use of the word “mythology” and the modern use of “myth” meaning something that is untrue.
