Death Stranding PS4
SPOILER WARNING! (Just in case!) There should be nothing here, but it is endgame footage, so it could be possible to spot something that could spoil something. You've been warned!
I played through the whole thing offline -- built roads, zip-lines and even got some trophies. But some of the trophies can't be done without "logging in". Here's a comparison of some of the differences after going to "online mode".
I assume it takes into account that I'm already very far ahead in the game, and that's why the world is full of bridges, rechargers and sign posts now. I'm sure it's not like this at the start (even if you started online, that is)!

Well the help that other players give you is invaluable but to do it offline has to be a serious kudos, because in some areas it's damned annoyingly hard to avoid BTs and MULEs without some help from other players, not impossible of course but a pain in the arse.

I often question the online mode, "Are we receiving player generated construction or AI & Name generated construction," I have been building roads and it seems if I don't complete the remaining materials, the road would never get completed. Regardless, whether it's player or AI generated structures, I am still thankful for well placed bridges, safe houses, and other PCC 1-2 structures.

From my experience, it's players. The closer I got to the end, the more I started seeing jump platforms, shelters and zip-lines, and the less I saw of road contributions. There were a lot more structures in the start, but they were mostly badly positioned, in the end there were way less, but most of them were better positioned/optimized per say. Both things lead me to believe it's players, since not all of them reach the end and those who do tend to be more "experienced", therefore leaving better builds behind.

This game does a fantastic job of showing off how a community can make life so much easier. Kojima's always been one of those artsy fartsy dudes who wants his games to feel like more than just a game, and I think this was his most effective piece in that regard. It's weird to me that people don't have fun with this game because they didn't die every ten seconds on the highest difficulty, or whatever. It's a fun game that makes you feel like an effective member of a community, where quality of life gets better as you contribute more to something greater. Both offline and online play are valid, I just think that people get scared to face up to the message this game tries to get across: Everything can be better if you connect with your community.

One of the most polarizing game. But to me, I'd say it's genius. I've never played anything like it before. It also has moments of calm and passivity (driving, building, etc), challenge (terrain scouting, etc.), thrill (fighting or escaping BTs, Terrorists, Mules). I understand why many people would find it boring. Specially those who play game just for the gameplay and exhilirating action like ARPGs or Souls-like) . No care about the world-building or philosophy behind something, just straight-up entertainment. But for those who play and see games as a form of art and value every aspects of it like the gameplay, music, lore, story, and the philosophy of certain aspects of it etc. Then such people would like it.

Not really, obviously there have already been a collective trillion resources already spent by players, probably millions just in the last month. Each person's game decides how many resources to give from "other porters" -- for example a couple of "early" roads will be fully built as soon as you add Engineer/Craftsman to the network. The others will have 0 progress until you add the area to the network first, whereupon you will find that about 75% of the resources will already be provided and the game will leave the last 25% for you to complete. And whenever a piece of the road gets down to like 35%, magically a whole bunch of people will "contribute resources" and restore it back to 100%.

If you’re a a person just seeing this video and who’s a noob on the game. Just play the damn thing however you like, but I’d recommend go with Kojima’s vision as is intended. This whole damn game is about connections, travel and helping others - playing offline completely defeats the point. You’ll do yourself a a great disservice playing this totally solo and remove touching moments for no valid reason at all. (At least as a first run). It’s balanced very well as is. What I found super annoying was vehicles being in front of shelters constantly when I am in my own. If you're a person just seeing this video and who's a noob on the game. Just listen to Callum, because it's worth playing offline the whole way through for first time. It's not about connecting with other player's to be honest. It's more about feel connected with all the NPC inside the game. Everytime you go to a shelter, you feel like entering a sanctuary, when you meet another Porter in the open, you'll definitely feel excited and secure. Not until Kojima make Death stranding a full blown multiplayer like Journey, where you can traverse the terrain together, now that would complete the game motives.

I just beat this after 52 hours or so. I played it offline. I didn't even know it was geared towards online play till later on. I hardly ever even used a ladder or rope the whole game let alone anything else. I truly enjoyed the hard trek through the environment but I always prepared for the worst and it payed off. I understand Kojima's vision of the game with the connection and all but I felt that the whole experience with every delivery and after all it's Sam's story. I loved each part the blizzards the wind, terrain the timefall and the Battle with the BTs was so unique and memorable. And my favorite parts were with Cliff,he was a kick ass character. But I say, play how you want, the options are there, have fun and enjoy a truly unique game and story one of the best to date!

Even still, some songs from the soundtrack still can bring a tear. An amazing game and experience overall and probably the most memorable I can recollect. If you're a person just seeing this video and who's a noob on the game. I've put easily 150+ hours into this game on both PS4+PS5 combined. I highly recommend playing the game in offline mode the first time around. Kojima wants you to have the experience of connecting you with other players but it reduces the creativity of the nuts and bolts of the game which is that you're traversing a variety of different environments. When you're connected to everyone else, you will have stuff already placed in convenient spots by other players and it doesn't give you the chance to discover the opportunity of doing it yourself. If you truly want a great experience with this game, play it on hard, offline mode. If you want to feel connected and have a smooth ride through the story, play it on very easy. Just know what you're getting into with those two options.

The game is very forgiving on every difficulty level. It is designed to be very very low-stakes with forgiving mission objectives, frequent autosave points, and essentially no death penalty. Many people start out on Very Hard. Some people do all deliveries on Very Hard and turn it to much easier settings for certain non-delivery story portions. I can almost guarantee that by the time you get to the end of the game, you will want to earn some "LLL" ratings, which are only possible on Very Hard, and you might wish that you had always been getting those "LLL" instead of having to redo various orders.

But for me these big open world AAA games would all feel much more alive if you could play them with friends. It was cool hearing an incentive like "Keep on keeping on!" for the first couple times... but now it's just plain stupidly annoying hearing that 1000x times everytime you arrive/depart from a delivery station. Not to mention how easy the game gets when everyhting suddenly appears already constructed for you when you connect the chiral network. Fuck this, I'm starting a nee game tomorrow even if I have to waste my 20 hours of playtime I already have.

Handy to have a few zilpline in those mountains once you get to Heartman though. But the signs; God damn the signs. 'Speed up' on the corner or roads and 'likers get liked" everywhere you go. Will not miss them.

@@vinigarr801 I just got to the evo devo woman and I shit you not, I built a whole network of ziplines on the mountains all by myself, with about 3k bandwidth to spare. 100% offline hard mode. Yeah, I'm kind of a masochist, but the sense of accomplishment is pretty great!

@@pedrocarvalho5567 oh yeh im. The same - jus about to set off the evo-devo now. There were no zips from heartman's at all, shredded 2 pack covers, 2 skeletons and about 3 pairs of boots setting it all up. I also enjoyed building pretty much every road in the game; raiding mules for resources - finding out the truck can hold 8 bodies was a touch.

@@vinigarr801 lol I never thought about killing those fucking terrorists, but now that I know this, I think I might just give it a try. They really piss me off, would be good to blow them up for a change. And yeah it feels so good to travel around your own ziplines after all the hard work of the first few deliveries on foot! I only built route 23 though, still working on route 41 but I don't know if I'll ever complete it, it's just too much of a grind for materials lol

Get the roads built up to the incinerator west of Mountain Knot from the engineer (BT territory) then go to work on the mule camps. I tell you, its is sooooo satisfying jus dropping them like flies. The terrorist guys will put up a fight, but they also don't seem to have the resource for roads that the actual mules have. So hit up the actual mules for materials. I also checked the share lockers at distro and pepper stations for materials - but obviously you can't do that. As for chiral crystals; rinse them from distro and preppers.

if you play online, does it consistently take you back to the same version? i like the idea of online but yeah i mean it'd be amazing if it got dlc or a sequel that changes the mechanics but in the same world taking it to another level. or even extending the map? it sounds like it gets extra repetetive and boring if the map is well filled out by a large amount of people pooling resources very quickly

they regulating it somehow. In my world i am the one building the roads. Other players only contributing resources to autopavers and building small structures like bridges, ladders, generators (which is only available when i connect region to the network). If you didn't explored certain region, there will be no roads, no contribution from other players.

The game forces you to play online if you want to make timely progress by limiting the amount of things you can place/build yourself. I often had to delete things people put up just so i could put up something in a better place. If the game wasn't so limiting it would be a lot more fun and less grindy.

nope, it has someting closer to "online cooperation functions" that means, when you play online you can interact with stuff that other players have created, you can like their creations or they can like yours, it makes the game easier and makes me think im not alone on that horrible place... (easter egg: if you press the talk button sometimes other people near in their worlds online can answer, so you know that theres people around you) so no actual multiplayer but a nice online feature

It's more like playing on a Minecraft server where only one player logs on at a time. If you build a bridge, you might come back to it later and find someone else has built a charger next to it, and the more useful a structure is, the more likely it is that other players will see it, so you're encouraged to pay it forward and build things that might not always be useful to you, but are still helpful to other players.

You don't see other people but you see their things built, placed and helped, you can either remove them from the "spoiler" settings or remove them in the game manually (I don't know if with anything, I don't remember exactly and I don't know 100%, once I took off a completely useless bridge) it's cool and fun to see what people might be doing while you're doing stuff, i'll never forget the time i left a 99.98% piece of road and found it built a few days later, the cooperation is nice even if it's indirect and it's nice to see people who appreciate what you build and vice versa

I loved this game for the first 30 hours of play, then I accidentally turned on the online mode and the disinterest to continue playing started. I was more concerned with helping to complete the road linking each area and doing side quests in the process, then I lost all interest in continuing to play the main quest, plus the online mode made the game easy to play as it includes the "help" from the other players. I guess I'm going to start a new game in offline mode from start to finish.

God forbid you pursue the things that interest you. Obviously the roads and helping other players scratched an itch you didn't realize you had. Trying to simply "get through a game" is so counterproductive, once games just get treated like checklist items we have built our own prison

@@fashnek I don't know. Nowadays, so many things occupy my time that I am playing games only for a good story and engaging gameplay.
