When the fear sets in Where the fire burns Where I find a place But there's nowhere to turn When the evening sings An eerie song Longing for the day You say I'm wrong You can find your place But never fit in And only when you've left Do you know where you've been? I can see the light But only when it's gone You can go on waiting But only for so long (So long) (So long) I know we are right It's not always clear Because I've never felt the fear Can it stay so good Forever in time? I've always felt the rhythm What happens when there's no more rhyme? Can we face ourselves Like we face each other? We've never felt anything On our own I can't wait much longer To feel any danger I hope we're not living for a lifetime alone I know we are right It's not always clear (It's not clear) Because I've never felt the fear Can it stay so good Forever in time I've always felt the rhythm What happens when there's no more rhyme? Hard to go on It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop I'll never stop believing in you It's just we never had to struggle It all came too easy I hope we felt what we felt from the start We've never suffered a broken heart We've been so blinded by all the best We never put our love to the test (To the test) I've always felt the rhythm What happens when there's no more rhyme?

There are better songwriters. Like Cathy Dennis who wrote over 200 songs, some of which became #1 hits for Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry, etc. Songwriters often work behind the scenes where we don’t see them. Debbie has not done much songwriting compared to Cathy & others

Loved this one. This was when she sadly dropped off the radar. Lost in Your Eyes was huge in December 88, then came the new album in January 89 and it was a hit. THEN the Electric Youth single was super popular that Spring! As were the dance moves! But by the time this single came out in July, it was like everyone freaking lost interest or moved on to the emerging hip hop trend. We Could Be Together was barely a single in the Fall of 1989. I don't even think MTV played it. I was soooo psyched for her third album and really loved it when it came out the following year! Like, really really loved it. And I was soooo sad that it too barely got off the ground. Some very small waves from the Anything is Possible video, but that was it. Too bad, she was such a talent to write and perform all those songs at age 20. I'm just so glad she's still around and doing things and having fun. Oh, and BTW, everything I'm saying is based on what happened in the US. I'm sure things looked different elsewhere in the world for her.
@ThePuffinTop

MTV didn't air "We Could Be Together", though TBS "Night Tracks" did. MTV had more impact when it came to popular music and what's "hip" in the 1980's and 1990's. "Lost In Your Eyes" was ranked very low at #93 on MTV year-end list for 1989. "Anything Is Possible" went Gold and the title track charted at #26 on the Top 40, but unfortunately quickly forgotten and the album wasn't given much promotion compared to Debbie's first two.

Paula abdul might've succeeded her by 1989 & I like both paula & Debbie's music but paula Abdul debuted 3 weeks after foolish beat's single release with knocked out & paula abdul released her first number one months before Debbie's last number one. Coincidence maybe? Paula abdul did dance-pop at around the same time Debbie started doing ballads and coincidentally Paula's cold hearted was released 2 weeks after Debbie's last upbeat top 40 single "electric youth" might be another coincidence. So pretty much electric youth overlapped with forever your girl album promotion wise.

I first heard Debbie Gibson back in 2019 when I was 17. Her stuff didn't really catch my ears back then but I made myself sit through Out Of The Blue and Electric Youth (probably in 2020) and was blown away. I know a ton of music and can recognize most songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s almost instantly. I went on a cruise with my grandparents and aunt and uncle in December of 2021, the cruise we were on generally has an older crowd of like 35 or older but there are younger people too. It was one of the first cruises to get back on schedule because COVID shut it down for a while and for that reason it was only at like 1/3 capacity. The first night of the cruise they played this game in the grand foyer called 80s music challenge. They split the room in half and it was Port side vs Starboard side and I was the team captain for Starboard. So here is this 20 year old kid (me) "who thinks he knows all this music stuff" (which I did lol) being team captain. The people in charge of the game would start playing a song and the team captains would have to get out of their chair, run around it and, sit back down. Whoever was faster and sat back down first got to guess first. My team at first was very unenthusiastic because of me leading but as soon as they saw how much I actually knew they started going crazy lol. They probably played like 40 songs and I got like 33 of them. Then the judges called it a TIE and the TIEBREAKER was a dance off between the team captains. The other team captain definitely was a better dancer than me but I still danced and made myself look like an idiot because I just had to. Needless to say I made everyone night and from that point on everyone knew my name. Cut to the next night I remember I was standing on the third floor of the ship against the glass railing overlooking the grand foyer and this girl looked up at me from the second floor and smiled and waved at me. I've never had a girlfriend/relationship in my life and had never really even been noticed by any women so that smile and wave caught me off guard. I remember right after she did that I got nervous and buried my face in my phone. I glanced back down to the second floor where she was standing and she was gone and then I noticed she was walking up the stairs that were behind me. And then she comes up to me and introduces herself and we started talking and walking around the ship. Ended up talking for about an hour and a half. We had a similar taste in music which gave my nervous self something to talk about if I couldn't think of anything to say. We both liked 80s pop. A few days later on the last day of the cruise we were lying down next to each other on this mattress/comfy seat thing and we were talking about stuff I don't remember and I had a bluetooth speaker and put this album on. She made the first move on me during Silence Speaks A Thousand Words and we made out until about half way through No More Rhyme. I slept next to her with her hand in mine on that comfy chair thing all night while this album was still playing softly. God I would do anything to relive that week...even just that night. There hasn't been a single day that I haven't thought of that night/entire week and all the fun I had. Nothing more became of that vacation fling and sometimes I wish more came of it and other times I think it's best that we didn't take it further. So wherever you are now girl, I hope you're doing well and I hope that life has been treating you good. I wish you the best. Thank you for making my entire life with that one night. I really miss you and talking with you. Every time I hear any song on this album I immediately think of you and I hope if you hear this album it reminds you of me. Thank you Debbie Gibson for this awesome album.

"Burying your face in your phone" is the biggest reason that you and most others your age haven't had boyfriends or girlfriends-your closest relationships are with your egos (as evidenced by your lengthy, self-important "comment") and your cell phones! Pathetic. I'd had a dozen girlfriends by the time I was 10! lol

Good gosh I was only 14 when this album dropped, where the hell did 34 frikin-frakin years disappear to 😮😂 She was the 80’s version of an innocent Brittany Spears. Debbie Gibson swooped onto the music scene and became the temporary Queen of Heartache ballads. Did someone say, Couple skate? Debbie G, Chicago, Peter Citera/Amy Grant, Atlantic Star, Natalie Cole, Exposè, & so many others… memory overload LOL Craziness that I’ll hear an old song by one of these artists & instantaneously I can vividly see, smell, taste, & hear every detail from moments I heard them on the radio.

Boy do I kick myself for letting that one get away, shes still in my area and see her when driving around. As they say.....cease the day, dont regret it
