This is the story of Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry and her fateful run in with Ted Bundy in the 1970s. Before Blondie hit it big in 1978 with their debut album Parallel Lines, Debbie Harry’s name almost landed on another iconic list: a victim of one Theodore Robert Bundy. This is the story of Blondie’s legacy and chart success, of the terror that was Ted Bundy, and that night in New York City when the two had a chance encounter.

I live in Australia. I've always been a big fan of Blondie / Debbie Harry. I googled her name this morning and I found this video from Google Images, strangely enough. The title beneath the still shot drew my attention because I escaped from a predator (I've always believed he was a serial killer) when I was 13 years old at the end of 1989. I have no memory of what happened to me after I was kidnapped by that stranger, but something came to me yesterday arvo, enough to prompt me to inform my local police, because now at least I know where the guy took me. It's a pine forest. The way you explained Debbie's near abduction / escape in New York City was very impactful. You described it very well including how it impacted her mentally later on. I know it takes a lot of courage and strength to do what Debbie did in such circumstances. Finding this now feels like yet another confirmation for me that what I experienced and felt yesterday arvo was the real deal. Thanks for making this video Andy. You have helped me.

Thanks for leaving the comment! I'm currently listening to Rebel Girl by Kathleen Hanna, and she talks about this precise thing -- how we can bury a traumatic experience so deep that it takes years for it to surface. It's often something that draws it to the forefront, be it a safe place, a safe person, or something (like this video) that sparks a connection and a revelation of what occurred. Likewise, we often don't realize how much courage and strength we have until put in a situation with potentially dire consequences. I was getting some touchup done yesterday with my tattoo artist who was living in Hawaii last year when the fires raged. He was telling me about how these things kicked in while fleeing the wildfire, and how afterward he stuck around for a month or two helping run supplies to folks who lost everything (of which he was one), before moving back. I'm glad you found it so impactful and that it helped you in a way. I do this because I love music and stories, and it's not everyday that someone comes forward to share how it made such a big difference for them. Appreciate you!!

@@AndyFenstermaker I'd have found your video intriguing anyway, Andy, even if hadn't helped me in such a big way.. I'll be subscribing to your channel for sure. I'm going to check out Rebel Girl by Kathleen Hanna now that you've told me. Believe it or not, I responded to a meme on Facebook later on yesterday which prompted me to answer with a brief true story about a young lady who I once rescued from hyperthermia. She was from Tasmania, and her name was Kathleen! I mentioned her to Mum last night, and my Mum said, "Oh, I haven't though of her in years!" I couldn't think of her surname, and I thought I'd probably never remember it, until I read the surname "Hanna" in your reply this morning. Then it came to me, because her name was Kathleen Hammond! (Hannah is also the name of my niece, who has plenty of attitude for a 3 year old.) I experience a lot of synchronicity when new things emerge, like puzzle pieces falling into place for me. I should be feeling used to it by now but it never ceases to amaze me, honestly. I likewise love music and stories, written and spoken, and mate you've been blessed with the storyteller gift for sure. I'm more of a writer than a verbal storyteller. Ironically the one story I can't tell anyone is the true story of my abduction, because I literally have no memory of it at all, after I was kidnapped. I think that's got something to do with why I keep attracting helpful synchronicity and the right people, songs, books, videos. I'm sure you'd know that Synchronicity is the title of an album by The Police. I must say your video was one of the best things I've ever experienced, despite my heart being in my mouth when you described what happened inside that car, and I'll always remember it because it involved Debbie Harry / Blondie! Absolute legend! She has always intrigued me that lady. 'I Want That Man' was one of my favourite songs as a teenager, and still is to this very day. Over time, I've grown to like almost all of her music, including Rapture, and I loved how you delved into that!🙂

Very crazy story bud. It's a small world is all I can think. Or is there a correlation between murderers and cults when it comes to musicians? It feel like it happens to be more tied together then us fans would like it to be

I wonder if there’s a parallel in the personality types, maybe the penchant for late nights, certain traits, etc? Super fascinating stuff !

I don't believe this. I have read a lot about Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy never lived in New York City but in Seattle and Salt Lake City. Ted Bundy targeted women with brown hair not women looking like Debbie Harry.

You wouldn’t be the first to question it’s validity, despite the story coming from Debbie Harry herself in the late 80s or so. She may have had dark hair at the time. And Bundy may have been visiting. I don’t discount her story, but maybe the circumstances were recalled a bit differently and it was someone else?

@@AndyFenstermaker There was plenty of strange people in New York City in the 70s so the story could be true but I think it is unlikely that it was Bundy himself.
