When Debbie moved to the USA from Brazil, she spent most of her time socialising and working with other Brazilians.
She lived in an English-speaking country, but she didn’t have any real opportunity to practise speaking English. Or any real NEED to speak English!
Until the pandemic hit, and she was forced to homeschool her two young children…
Like millions of other parents around the world, this was a BIG ‘wake-up call’ for Debbie!
(Hint: a ‘wake-up call’ is an incident that makes you realise that you need to make a change in your life)
Debbie quickly realised that she NEEDED to work on her English so that she could communicate effectively with her kids and their teachers.
English wasn’t just a ‘nice to have’ anymore; it was a *necessity*!
At the time, Debbie felt very embarrassed and self-conscious of her English.
She hadn’t practised properly for years and often found it hard to express her thoughts.
She needed people to practise with in a safe space, where she didn’t feel judged or like people would make fun of her.
So she decided to join the Hey Lady! App and start speaking English regularly inside our online community.
