Mate I'm so familiar with that sinking feeling you get when you discover rust holes. Fairplay to you for committing to it, no one would blame you for bailing out and buying a less rusty example, but they are getting rare and expensive now, I don't need to tell you. If you do stick with it, it will make great content and a lovely car in the end. I had a 740 GL estate just like this, same colour, also no roofrails.. It was an 1988 model and had it around 2003 when a 740 was still no rare sight. It had 450.000 km on it and was really reliable. Loved it! (Now my daily is a 1997 940 estate in black currant pearl :-))

I had a 740 years ago but i preferred the 240 saloon myself..the very best of luck with your endeavours as these cars are quite hard to find now and are more or less facing extinction.

Volvo 740 is not the most ideal Volvo for preservation, but I always think it is the most beautiful one.

Thanks for the video. When there is rust on the arches, there will be more rust. Also 200 and 700 series do rust. The 900 series is much better as it uses galvanised steel. The oil around the filler cap can also be related to the PCV system. Not expensive to service and not too difficult to replace on a non Turbo, 8V red block. A test with a latex glove or something similar will give you an idea abput the status of the PCV system. Name suggestion: my Volvo's carry names from persons who played a role in the history of the brand. I wish you luck with the project!

Это очень неплохая сохранность кузова, в России встречаются в основном гораздо хуже( любили перегружать особенно задний багажный отсек и стойки давали трещины, крыша опускалась и надламывалась, в задних лонжеронах трещины, да в целом кузов универсала слабее по силовой задней части чем седан, так как нет распорки штатной за диваном и сам диван не ребро жесткости, тонкие задние стойки по сравнению с седаном и ниже заднее крыло, меньше металла). В общем это обчень приличный экземпляр, тем более что он простоял столько времени, удачи в реставрации)

Just seen one for sale, it's a GLE I believe. It's been barn stored since 2017. The car has about 90,000 on the clock. They've put a years MOT on it. The vehicle is the same colour as the one above. I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but if its past its MOT it must meet the bare legal requirement to be on the road. Any ideas on price?
