The last couple of weeks of the 2021 season was my first time skiing. And you, you taught me how to ski with your videos. I started in the bunny hill with zero experience. Then I moved to a blue, green, and now I can manage black trails. You have no idea how many times I watched your videos; you're the best here on KZfaq. Thanks Deb, you're amazing! Hopefully one day I can meet you and have a class with you.

Dang, I cannot stop liking your videos. How good is the content to target both skiers and instructors. I've always enjoyed teaching (not related to skiing), and must say I'm amazed by the great pedagogic skills you have. Thank you so much for your dedication.

This video is amazing and not just for beginner kids! I never properly weight shift and balance for my parallel turns so they're a bit wider than I'd like them to be and not technical proper, in my amateur opinion, by watching countless ski videos and watching much more experienced skiers than me. I wish I had watched this yesterday before hitting the slopes. I'm back in the city but going back skiing this Thursday and will definitely watch this over and over again to do these tapping exercises on my own. I do have a coach but I identify more with your style of teaching and your explanations and completely clear to me, I understand them immediately. I wish I were close to you, but I do thank you very much for all your amazing videos, so those of us who aren't lucky to have you as an instructor in person, can hugely benefit from your online teachings. Highly appreciated, Deb!! :)

Every instructor who teaches kids should watch this! I love the way you keep it simple and teach without "teaching".

You can tell when there is an Amazing coach who teaches at all levels. The 2 young skiers are different levels but coach took the time to fine tune there skills. Thanks Deb. This video really helped me get more comfortable with weogjt balance each leg....🏅

I can't watch a single one of your videos without having a new thing I plan to try to improve my skiing next time I'm on the slopes. Adding "tapping inside foot" to the list. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and expeirience!

Great to see youngsters learning so much at a young age and having fun at the same time. So much harder trying to learn in ur 50s with injuries and being nervous of steeper runs. Watching these videos really helps us oldies to keep trying and keep enjoying. Thanks 👍

Really like the task of tapping the inside ski. Especially as it relates to transitioning to the new outside ski. Intermediate skiers will benefit from that as well. Thanks for the video again! And a few more arrows in the quiver. 😁e

This is awesome, Deb. I've been working with little ones this season at a very beginner level on the same concepts even before they are out of the wedge. Honestly, even before they learn the wedge!

Such a fun video! I'll see if my kids want to try the tapping tip next time we're out. Mostly, they don't care about turning though. (Controlled) staight line wedges all day long. 🤣

Deb -- awesome video, your explanation is simple and straight forward as usual. As an instructor I used the turning backward process with most of my students. The number of different pressure positions the student uses to accomplish task is extremely beneficial to advance the students confidence of the leg to leg pressure movements. In addition, I explain turning backward as a safety skiing position, since I have experience with new skiers falling when they accidently end up backwards. Safety is the number one rule I teach with all of the students.

I'm so glad I found your channel, Deb. Thanks for putting all this effort and time into passing on what you know! Your message about just letting the kids enjoy the mountain really hits for me. I found out very quickly that I am more interested in getting my kids to progress into parallel than they are. They are mostly out there for the pure joy of going down the hill! Once they have some tools to be in control and stay safe, I need to let them have fun!

Have just come back from a ski trip and had real difficulty in balancing on one leg as a drill. Real lightbulb moment when Deb gets Olivia to balance with her legs apart then when close together. I know I was trying to do this with legs too wide apart. Just got to wait until next year now to try this!

Really enjoyed seeing the 360's come together, without explaining how to do them. Once the very early necessities of instruction are over, I will generally present an outcome I want from students, and let them try to achieve it, only getting into detail if they have an issue. Sometimes they even find a way to do something I hadn't thought of.

Your enthusiasm just shines through Deb, thank you so much for your videos, I carry your wisdom from the UK to the French Alps and ski with a smile, not always brilliantly but I just pick myself up dust myself off and try to recall one of your tips when I work out what went wrong . Please keep on inspiring us.

Absolutely love your teaching. The task is doing the teaching. I just tell him how to do the task. The movie the Karate Kid is famous for the saying “ Wax on Wax Off” The old Karate master has has student wax his car but tells him the direction he must move his hands to apply and buff the wax with each hand. When his student complained that he was not learning how defend himself. The old Master tells him to use the wax on and wax off moves to block punches which he is able to do easily. The student has developed muscle memory from his task of waxing cars. The task helps build the skills. This is why Deb is a World Class coach. 🙏🙏

Great video Deb. I know there are many versions of instruction but is this similar to the Harb Ski system ? It was very helpful your method of teaching. Your channel is great. Please do a “ how to ski “ series from beginner - intermediate - advance You could even charge a small fee to help support ski strong. I think it would be very successful

I tried the tapping, but I couldn’t lift either of my legs, but I’ll try again. Unfortunately our season is over, but next season I’m definitely going to try the backwards movements. That seems like a very good skill builder. I’m a beginner at age 57 and never really got to parallel, but hey, I’ll try again next year. Thanks Deb for fantastic videos!!

Try standing on one leg at home (shoes or barefoot) for as long as you can. It helps a lot to build up stabilizer muscles you only need for skiing and skating. Also: go to the ice rink or get rollerblades for the off season to keep that “foot to foot" balance in shape.

I'm 52 and haven't skied since I was 15. Will take it up again this fall. I'm overweight and in bad conditioning now so I'm working on that and will be more ready in fall.

Hello I was wondering if lifting my inside ski would help me with carving cause I suck at it on my right side cause of my dominant leg
@cycleoflife73312 жыл бұрын
Never under estimate the power of slide slipping as a progression from wedge to parallel immediately when your student has mastered the wedge then to lifting the inside ski to whirligigs. All fun skills for every age.

Deb- How old are the kids? Interesting to see their physical development at different ages, Do they live there and ski all the time or come to visit with Auntie just occasionally? I know that this has been mentioned before but it would be really interesting if you could do an annual video lesson with them so we could watch the progression as they grow and learn more skills. Would make a great series. Thanks for all.

the center of mass is a sadly used term that fails to accommodate external force and relative mobility of mass. There exists a superior word to describe the common point around which motion occurs... barycenter.. This leads us to barycentric control which is a superior explanation of balance when combined with counterbary =local frame of reference- general relativity and dynamic counterbary= inertial frame of reference- special relativity. Real physics, nothing contrived and actual models exist with mathematical proofs, many great jokes. I've struggled my whole career with other peoples incorrect thinking about the physics of motion in skiing. Our dependency as educators and coaches on fictious forces to describe motion screams fraud at our students who can't possibly get any of it sending false information into the public realm where many people know better and hearing the fraud automatically disconnect. We must functionally understand nature to have the opinions to communicate the functions of our own nature. Functionally understanding Nature is fun. The natural environment gives us the mountains of snow and our own playful nature gives us many fun ways to learn how to have fun with it and understand our functional relationships. I asked an 8 year old child last week if they understood what gauge pressure applications to temperature pressure gradients in exclusion zones does and they said water liquifies then refreezes making a frozen slot the ski slides in. kids can grasp physics, adults can't do it. So we need to still use our stale, incorrect, fictious angular momentum, centrifugal force models to communicate sadly to them. We need to know the difference and modify our information to our audience as necessary .Words create their own playful acronym's Understanding puts the "U" in FUN and puts You in the business of FUN.
