Today I'm discussing popular misconceptions connected with jewelry and gemstones! I hope you enjoy this video and learn something new, I definitely did! 100% guilty with the mask issue of “this will be quick I don’t need a mask”. I am putting forth more effort to not be so lazy and wear a mask more even on quick tasks. I am not perfect at it yet but I am trying to build the habit. So happy to see you back on KZfaq! I miss your videos and watched every single one in the last six months 😂 it was like a nightly routine to watch a couple of your videos

I would love it if you did a video going over all the safety measures used throughout your work. I'm looking to expand on the techniques i use (and convert my spare room to a workspace), but i want to be careful and i've found that these points are often overlooked or are lacking the amount of detail i need to fully understand them.

Thanks for the informative video. I am a a beginner and silversmithing is slowly getter better. I bought a couple of lab created rubbles and sapphires for while I am learning. I was impressed with how good they look. Have to be careful who you buy from or you could wind up with glass etc. I come from a technical background so am big on safety so make sure I use mask and eye protection.

Thank you for this video! I was aware of everything in it, YET thank you soooo much for the reminder about the mask! I'm so often like "this will be very very quick, let's avoid the mask", and I shouldn't! I already had a few headaches after doing such thing, and obviously had particles in my nose too. Luckily, I've only be making jewelry for 2 years and not full time (and actually wearing my mask from time to time ehe), so I think it didn't have major effects on my health. But from now on, trust me, I will wear it EVERY TIME, even for small jobs! You kinda scared me aha, let's protect our healths! (I hoped that my headaches were not linked to my silversmith activities, but you confirmed that they probably were... if it starts like this, I don't want to know how it could end if I keep on not wearing mask everytime). Sometimes you know, but you're lazy, and it may have very bad results. So thank you, thank you again. Reminder to myself and to however wanting it: never think you already know, and just watch Basia's videos. You might learn something, or you might realized something, or you might remember something. Always watch and listen. Have a good day!

Good topic on misconceptions, real art is hard work, but fun work! ...we as artists are adding value that CNC jewelry making can't add, nor can Artificial intell ever replace us; the true Artisians who craft paintings, drawings, photographs, and beautiful jewelry, for resale. Prices are negotiable always! However, a thought of mine is sometimes folks want something of value for nothing! I occasionally donate my paintings to worthy people and causes. Yet, at the same time I will not compromise on price, especially on one of a kind piece, for Art work always goes up in value upon the Artist death. Thanks! For ur reply! Stay Positive! Fm TX... l agree totally with your comments about Handmade jewellery. l consider every piece l make to be Unique unlike the mass produced products sold in shops. The public have so many misconceptions that they believe to be true. You should write a book :). Thanks for another informative video and Congrats on your first online Tutorial. John

Basia, I don’t know what to say… just this evening I thought my torch can explode really. Later days it had problems igniting a spark, but this evening it got worse, so I had 1 from 5 successful start. And then it’s tank began to heating very fast, so I literally burned my fingers. So I just sit very sad and watch it from a distance. It is absolutely new, I just bought it a week ago

While it's true that a hand torch won't just randomly explode in your hand out of the blue, it is just a product, that sometimes can be faulty and can totally malfunction. In this case, be safe and take it back to the seller! What you're describing is definitely not normal, so I'd definitely consult with the seller. It would be best to not use this torch until you know what's going on, be safe! And good luck ❤️

I am a firm believer that handmade, no matter what it is and in what profession, is always worth more then machine made stuff because behind every handmade item there is a person who poured their time, passion and love in to that item and that alone is worth much more then any machine could achieve. When it comes to arts and crafts I very often feel that handmade items have much more caracter where as machine made ones offen seem to lack caracter and even seem dull in a way I can’t seem to be able to explain. It’s just not the same.

Here is a question...When you solder, do you use shaded soldering glasses the way welders use welding glasses

I don't actually, but I tend to use protective glasses. But shaded ones aren't necessary when soldering, like they are in welding.

I always wear my mask when sawing, soldering etc. Love my mask it brings back so many memories of my visit to the USA and my time at Disneyland fun park. Although I am still not sure which one out of the Mickey Mouse or the Donald Duck mask offers the best protection, do you have any thoughts on the subject ?

Those small torches are going to explode. I've melted them and they still didn't explode. Acetylene, on the other hand, is a bit dangerous. So, use the proper safety measures and always use flashback arrestors.

Honestly, I will always prefer hand made jewellery before I purchase a machine made jewellery. And Pretty much everyone in my family feels the same way...
