Amazing to see a By Farr Pinot Noir on this list. I'm Australian and they're one of my favourite local producers. Highly recommend trying their other varietals (the Shiraz and Gamay are tremendous). They also have a more 'entry level' Pinot called the Irrewarra, which is around $30US. Around a third of the price of the Tout Pres.

These list videos are interesting. Love hearing your opinions on the styles, producers, and regions, especially ones I’m not that familiar with (Tokaji, Sicily, for example). I do love Vietti, though, even if it is well known.

Jamie Goode was probably the first person to really talk about those nonfortified sherries! As for the rest of the list, nothing really new in terms of being unusual. How about Bosnian wines, Cypriot or Krasnodar wines...or some Puglian rare varieties....sadly, these wines from Decanter are all familiar choices, Matthew?

Decanter does run articles on those types of wines throughout the year. I used to write almost exclusively on those types of wines but sadly, they are not widely available and those types of articles don't get views or clicks... Key is peppering in those types of wines in existing content.

So many wine lists out here 😂 Gotta see who had the best one 😎🎉 My parents got some Prosecco Rose for the new year, and my dad was complaining he wanted something sweet but they all said “Extra Dry” 😅 I got to tell him the good news about Dry is actually Sweet 😂🤪

Interesting and complete list! I have tasted the château chalon 2014 from Berthet Bondet last year, and I agree it's a huge wine even if I tasted it too young. I regret so much I didn't buy a bottle!

@@drmatthewhorkey me too! It was just 42€ at the winery but you could find it online less than 50€. I think it's a must buy because 14 was a cool year in Jura, whereas next year were warmer so it's a completely different yellow style and 14 will be a classic

I have been a Decanter subscriber for about 7 years now, so pretty familiar with their listing and tasting ethos. Do they score their wines too high? That's possible, but in their panel tastings they have three tasters, vs. one critic scoring wines too high. Was pretty surprised to see the Bernard Huber GG Chardonnay as a Decanter wine of the year; kudos. I would say overall Decanter's wines of the year are much more diversified than WE, WS, etc as they highlight wines from classic regions/appellations as well as emerging ones. So it's usually a good mix of new and old. I love Gran Reserva Rioja, those tertiary notes from bottle age are great. We had a '09 Gran Reserva Rioja Lacort for Christmas, but so far my favorite was the '04 Faustino Gran Reserva, an awesome bottle

While it makes some sense that too few people have developed a full appreciation for sparkling reds yet, it does seem about time for an excellent pet nat or piquette to finally get some love. But traditional media moves slooooooooow. They want to influence the market but also give the buying public what they think they want, creating a self-devouring ouroborus that's difficult to get out of.

I like Decanter but it seems like they will score a random bottle way too high. I don't normally see any of the bottles they talk about but it is cool to hear about what is out there.

Don't know if it's on Decanters list, but...I just opened a 2017 Ravines dry Finger Lakes Riesling, from their home vineyard. Very, very nice! Good acidity but not harsh, Golden Delicious apple/melon/citrus, with a long finish. And, the underside of the cork has tartrates! If you can find this, try it!

Balassa doesn't do 5 puttonyos, and he's dry wines IMHO are way above the region average. Especially Szent Tamás and Betsek Furmints - some of the best dry ones you can get in the region.

@@drmatthewhorkey Try his new vintages - 2019, 2020 are great. But still, his single plot vintage series of Betsek Szamorodni are amazing - best you can get in this cathegory.
