In my headcanon, I believed that scary singing only applies to scavengers, not you, the scavengers heard the singing, but not aware of it, the singing is coming from your stealth mode.

Hard to get creeped out when people usually associate this sound with relief in dbd.

At first I thought I was hearing the souls of the damned haunting me but it was just an easter egg!

Two days ago I just saw a video of somebody playing as Grave Mother from anomalous activities (another one of red's game) and from what I noticed after they used their stake ability there's a faint lullaby playing on loop similar to this one. It's slowed down and reverbed though. Just something I thought i'd share here

Man I'm gonna be scared playing as a Drifter now that I'm about to complete the challenge

The faint lullaby is pretty matching with the whisper ish look of drifter's perk icon

Most logical theory is that Drifter is possibly a Reikgon, could explain why he gets health every decapitation kill. Another theory is that the Drifter's cloak tech came from a Reikgon, we all know Dave, so somehow, a Reikgon's connection with spirits sort of got passed onto the tech and hence the lullaby. I like it, adds some lore behind stuff, or what if it's a teaser for a new perk?

I was playing Drifter today and I heard it, I was like "...eh?" My original guess was similar to the TF2 Pyro, where maybe the character is viewing the situation as something else, specifically a more childish thing, instead of what it actually is. Either way, whatever it's hinting to must be very interesting.

I'll just call it "Drifter's hunt" or "Drifter's lullaby" Also I just remember, there was this incident on one of the servers I joined, there was a sound played over Sickler and Skinner fighting, and then the last part of it was a loud explosion. There's also a song played while we we're fighting, not the soundtracks you hear when scavenging and defending, it was like one of Battlejuice's music, or could be one of some game's OST Edit: It's not Boneyard, Made Of Steel, or any kind of music that was in the Holdout gamemode

the little lore i have for it is just that, that perk is part of an assassins cult. and that they usually sing a melody when hunting.

Perhaps that maybe that might be the drifter's daughter, maybe that's why he want to kill, as you can see in his animation in the lobby (I'm just guessing)

I think there is also a faint screaming when using the berserker stim, its quite unsettling but still great on a another note, these screams are only from berserker and drifter, its like getting buffed makes you hear voices

tl;dr: Reikgon (the cult) has an obsession with bringing Reikgon (the person) from their dimension to earth's dimension so they experimented on people and the Drifter is one of them and so is The Hidden. Every time you go invisible as the drifter you get stuck between earth's dimension and Reikgon's dimension which is why you are invisible but can still interact with earth (aka. attacking). ***Theory:*** Believe it or not, just today I spoke to the person who supposedly suggested the addition of this Easter egg. Apparently, he worked on the lore of Drifter and that the agent which had the perk of Drifter was originally a failed experiment of Reikgon's. It was something to do with Reikgon experimenting with the ability to travel between dimensions. To add onto this, the reason why The Hidden is the way he is, is because he is stuck between earth's dimension and whatever dimension Reikgon was trying to experiment with travelling to but I guess as a result he is just invisible to earth's dimension but yet can still interact with whatever he is confronted with. Basically, everytime you use the drifter perk, you literally put yourself in a position between earth's dimension and also the other dimension which is why you are invisible but can still attack just like the hidden. The gadget that the Drifter uses was most likely crafted by the agency so the drifter could more easily harness their ability. This also makes sense to why when a cloaked teammate attacks they immediately become uncloaked because they wouldn't have the same abilities given to the Drifter as the Drifter was **THE** failed experiment. AND WHAT ELSE MAKES SENSE IS THAT YOU ARE NOT HIDDEN TO THE REIKGON CULT NO MATTER IF YOU USE DRIFTER'S ABILITY OR NOT!! Apparently, he told me that the little girl being heard is something that the canonical user of the Drifter perk is force to hear when they are dimension hopping or something. P.S.: I don't remember everything he told me so the information I have provided may not be 100% accurate and I don't know how legitimate is him being the lore writer of Decaying Winter is (But he seems very persistent being a lore writer and everything he did say made sense according to the game). I'm going to guess that the reason to why this was implemented into the game could be a lead to a bigger secret. Maybe something to do with a Drifter teammate interacting with The Hidden, we've yet to test it out.

If anyone is still wondering about what this is from, it's a reference to the girl that sings Freddy Kruegers song. I guess in a way the Drifters can be seen as "Nightmares" hence the reference to "Nightmare on Elm street"

my theory is that the cloak effect is taken from the invisible man genetics/blood,and there is still a remains of the hidden soul,still on the genetics/blood (reikgons are people whos soul is sealed to earth,cannot go to afterlife),and the singing is probably a scream/cry for hwelp since they only want to die in peace,not in shame.

ive experienced it too. maybe the drifter is associated with the dead? high chance that this has something to do with the demons around the map too, given the fact that everytime you kill someone with the alternate ability (m2), you get 10 hp+ like how apostle does. well we also know that apostle has something to do with them cause of the funky shadow hunter and hanger's threats to them my friend pointed out that the drifter also might be associated with the hidden, considering how he can go invisible like how the hidden does and how the other cultists who are worshipping these entities can see the drifter. even if its not a easter egg its a really cool addition to the drifter. next i want to hear the monolithic voices saying "Tvoy put' zavershaetsa. Idi ko mne." when playing as damned in the secret lab or doing true ending.

Once when I was playing decaying winter one day, someone in my server said that you can hear kids singing while cloaked with the drifter perk. I didn't believe them, but now I 100% believe them.

I like to imagine that our characters (the agents) are slowly becoming insane over each time they spawn in they are getting controled by us (the player) without their will and they are forced to do what we make them do (like killing the enemy or themselves) and the enemies aren't trying to take the agents stuff they are trying to end our characters suffering but they always comeback so when the games get privated or deleted it's the only time our characters can rest and not sustain the torture WE caused them.

She cries and screams too i have 2 theories : the little girl was walking or playing and sings then she cries bc drifter accidentally anchored she got stabbed and screams. The 2nd theory : the little girl was playing or walking and drifter is her dad. If im right then that is the 'lullaby' of a fiction serial killer called 'Freddy Krueger'. He is not a being of flesh and bones but haunts and kills children in their dreams. If the child that is being haunted gets a cut on their hand in the dream world, they will also have a cut in the real world. So if the target gets killed by any means in their dream (or nightmare) they would die in the real world.
