LOL…how could you not buy that roll😱 years ago I went to the Laura Ashley outlet in Bundoora, they had a a whole roll of white fabric, it was really good furnishing weight. The tag said $10, I thought cool, I’ll get a metre make a couple of nice cushions. Take it to the counter, they say oh it’s got a fault in it, I said where they said here…there was a blue thread in the selvedge. I said that no issue it’s in the selvedge and I’d like a metre of it, they said oh no it’s $10 for the whole roll. I had quite the discussion about it with them..but needless to say I took that roll of 25metres for $10. The blue thread was only in the first couple of metres, I’ve got curtains, cushions, bags and I even made a skirt out of it! And I probably still have about 5 metres of it left. So yes, you definitely had to have that roll from the op shop! I just love a good op shop bargain story.

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs I just can’t part with my treadle. It was my grandmothers and Mothers machine. The only one they sewed on. So it is very cherished even though I have several new ones I sew on. I did learn to sew on the treadle. My first few makes were on it. It sewed sooo smoothly. And very quiet. If it wasn’t so heavy I would take it outside and sew out there while the weather is nice.

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs When I sewed clothes for my girls, I would swap out pattern pieces so not all of their clothes were identical except the fabric. I changed the neck line, different sleeves, that kind of thing. Pajamas were always fun. The things I did with those. I did save a lot of money there, but it took work. I would trace every size on freezer paper, and put each size in an envelope. My girls were tiny and difficult to find clothes that fit. I had several Moms ask me where I got their clothes, as they couldn't find them. I sheepishly told them, my dining room table. I don't know why I was embarrassed. Maybe because I repurposed clothing from the second hand stores. Sometimes I was able to buy "real fabric" with a ton of coupons, and grandma wanting more points on her card, so she would buy the fabric. But, my clothes! Yikes is it expensive.

Sorting is quite a job...every piece you pick up requires a decision and that is a stressful situation after 20 plus boxes. You have the enate ability to sort wisely, what a gift. Now, I need to do the same with my own stash and get it down to what I actually will sew up . Great job Christine.

Would little girls'' jumper/dresses sell in your shop? I bet the kids fabrics would be cute made up into a simple jumper.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs

Not sure that they'd sell Brandi, but making them creates a lot of legal issues with safety standards for children. This is why I make bags with rescued fabric.🙂

Christine I would love to purchase a box of quilting fabrics. I'm on a low income (like many others) and shop for fabric at thrift shops and charities. I love to quilt and this way I can afford to do what I love.

@saffronflora hi Tracy. I've kept most of the quilting fabric, and mum has picked out the rest. Anything else is priced at the shop which is open fri, sat and Sunday.🙂

Two thoughts. One is that I would love to pack an empty steamer trunk and get on a steamship to come visit the shop. Two is that the ship would sink on the way back from the weight of the baggage I would bring back.

WOW, that is a lot of stuff. I think you're pricing things at least 3.00 to low. With the prices these days, and for stretch knits, they're worth more than you've priced them. Plus they are in great/new condition. Just my thoughts.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 2 ай бұрын
I agree that the value is much greater than what I've priced them at, but as my shop is predominantly a second hand/junk store, I need to turn stock over very quickly, otherwise it hangs around too long. I did end up pricing everything at $5 to begin with😀

Christine, why on earth would you spend so much time showing us all the huge haul you made with the outlandish amount of fabric you came in to? Poor you, mummy has to come help you with it all. What you can charge for it all. Good grief lady, most of us can't even afford to do any projects at all in a hobby or income source we enjoy so tremendously. Usually I would just not watch you. Which I won't any longer. I am just so gobsmacked that you thot it would be joyful for any of us to see you and mummy revel in your abundance. Really.

Hmm, seems as though you've missed my fabric journey thus far Misty. The men that gave me the fabric are overjoyed that it won't end up in landfill, and are pleased they'll get a little extra cash from the sales I make for them. "Mummy" won't need to help as it's all sorted, but she'll enjoy taking some home.😀
