I just bought one from Amazon last week (I needed fast and new) and is one of my favourite radios. I just discovered that the battery compartment fit a protected button top 18650 as is longer than the usual ones and is lableled as 3500 mAh capacity, Great radio and rather sturdy contruction,

I don’t live near an airport; it’s a testament to the band works better than I thought. I picked up a few different frequencies from an airport a number of miles away.

To think that these modern radios do everything that $1000 radios did in the 1980s. I like the ATS scan

Going good used most days for 3 years. Shame it doesnt cover 518khz Navtex. Apart from that, amazing radio for the price, Hooked it up to my mla 30 plus and the polish number stn was booming in very clear. Just an example what this radio does. Keep up the good work Giles!

I have this radio and love it, nice small portable size and does a great job with the Air Band, which I love.

I have many of the popular recievers but the one that really stands out to me is the Tecsun s2000 . Superb audio , very easy to use . Great manual band scan , very good on just the telescopic , air band , no dsp chuffing , great battery life , 330 works well but fiddly to use and annoying dsp effect . No kick stand . The 501 works well but battery life is dreadful . Indistinct button markings and audio no better than the s2000 . No airband but the mp3 player is handy . Any overload on the s2000 with ext antenna easily overcome by switching to telescopic while using that frequency. I know not everyone agrees with this choice but for me it fits my needs better than the others I own or have tried .

Love your channel...I've been all over KZfaq and can't find anything about the connections for getting a long wire antenna to a 3.5mm plug for these portable radios.

That's too bad about the muting while tuning because it's a deal breaker. I had one that was still slightly audible through the muting. And my sangean ats 818 was hackable by clipping or soldering a wire (i forget because 30ish years ago) Can the muting be bypassed or faintly heard through tuning? Thanks for the great reviews!

Hi - my new D808 has just arrived and so far very pleased with it. Can anyone tell me what the word 'Timer' (which shows in the LCD above the frequency) means and what its function is, can it be turned off? In the instructions it can be seen in the picture of the display but as far as I can tell there is no reference to it elsewhere. 73, de David in UK.
