A different approach that we've done besides the tapping during setup, is to have everyone put hands in center (Avalon style) and the Forensic Scientist will point to each object with finger/stick and the Murderer will give a thumbs up when the item is pointed to.

Thank you for the great video! The players were too nice here tho haha civilized cooperative deductions/discussion and no attacking each other?! It was almost like they forgot the murderer was among them.

Watching this a second time was more fun than the first time because I knew what was going on behind the scenes. Well that, and you guys couldn't hear my wild theories when I was participating. I did notice that as the Forensic Scientist you have to kind of have some answers in mind because timing is Everything. I'm one of those people who don't play these kinds of games because I get so tense I may as well play with the card open, everybody can tell who I am. But this video made it seem fun enough to be the Forensic Scientist or the Murderer. I might give this one a go.

I appreciated the runthrough. It was great seeing how people play the game and the camera angles generally worked well for it. Could have used a little higher view for the game boards to see them a bit better, but it worked pretty well. I can see that whoever is the forensic scientist will have trouble giving great clues with the cards given. Looks like it could be a bit hard to mask who's moving around for the murderer, though.

Nice job. Thank you, SO much for doing a run with 4 people! Seems to be difficult to find videos that show the smaller number for games like these (which seem to lend themselves more towards larger numbers (i.e.5-7+). Also, nice characters to have at the table. Thanks for sharing!

Glad you're glad. :) Any plans to do more gameplay videos? I need to move to wherever you and the Dice Tower people are. I have the natural disadvantage of being an extremely athletic loner that likes board games. So 'gamers' don't think to invite me, and I can't find people to play with. Hard knock life. :)

Looks fun! I think it just rocketed to the top of my to-buy list. If I have one complaint it would be that I don't like how the design mandates that the investigator be silent. Thematically I feel like that puts the person who is supposed to be the most informed in the position of working with the enemy. It would make more sense in my opinion, if the Investigator was actually the ghost of the the victim- but perhaps they were trying to distance themselves from mysterium.
@dnisbet71
@dnisbet71 5 жыл бұрын
yeah - i was thinking the same myself - ghost of the victim would be more natural, and would stop artificial sounding discussion about "which token did the investigator place first?" - now you talk about "Which thing did the ghost say first? Because that must be the strongest piece of evidence".

+vrava The cool thing is it works well period. Especially since you can easily just add 1 more card per person, or take away one more card per person to re-balance if your group needs.

I got the dumbbell... but the Park lead me to Ants :( I also think that when getting the new tiles for the second and 3rd round the Forensic scientist could draw 2 select one and discard the other... do you think that would be a valid option? Regretting not picking this up in Essen :( Great Video :)

I was way off. I totally thought it was the lighter and the newspaper, and the death was being burned alive - severe injury, corpse still warm, shabby clothes, sudden scream, cruel death, in the park on the weekend.

+Steven Alfieri It should be out by the end of the year. KS backers first sometime in November. Retail after that, if I remember the KS update. Check out the Kickstarter updates for the game for more details.

+Steven Alfieri This game just showed up at our distributor Wednesday (or Thursday). Which means the 'Big Boys' (CSI, MM, CardHaus etc.) will have Deception:MiHK available real soon (12/14?). We have a few copies coming in to list on the Marketplace for BGG.com just in case the 'Big Boys' run out and gamers are looking for a copy (Shameless plug I know, but, what the hey).

I love these social deduction/hidden role games too. But I feel that this one, like Mysterium, really needs the "right" group. I can see this falling flat with a lot of personality types---introverts, quiet, less imagination. I know that can be said for a lot of games, but this one really relies on folks talking it out. one or two "I don't know" type of people at the table will kill this game.

+Brian Andrews I actually tried this with my wife and two of her friends (none of them play games). All of them loved it! There is just something about the mystery. They felt it was less stressful than making up Dixit clues for example.

Am I the only one who thinks this is sorta like "Cluedo done right"? Cluedo (I think "Clue" in the US) itself sucks almost as much as Monopoly - deadbeat games that are considered classics, only with Cluedo, you don't even get the fake cash that you could at least use for other games.
