Incredible job my friend. Love how you covered all the floor joists with the rubber membrane. That thing will last forever.

Remarkable work. How did you determine the height to cut the post to ensure the joists are leveled on the beam?
@woodworksbysnyder34565 ай бұрын
Lots of string and string levels. It will depend if you have joists running up against the beams with joist hangers or if, like mine, you set the joists on top of the beams. So run your line on the height of your joists and start subtracting measurements to get to you ultimate cut of posts then beams then joists and then finished decking. Measure a bunch so you only cut once.

Is there a way to correct the beam when it is sitting on the post that is not vertically plumb perfect? I was thinking cedar shims. Our top posts were cut using a square so most likely our concrete was a bit out of level below the Simpson post holder.
@woodworksbysnyder3456 Жыл бұрын
Shims can work but making sure the foundation is level helps the post become plumb. Plumb post leads to beam sitting plumb and level.

How you know the height of your deck footing did you had a string?
@woodworksbysnyder3456 Жыл бұрын
I did use a string but also local regulations require 2’ depth of footer plus height to string for beam. Whalla, your post height is found!

what was the spacing you did for the beam screws? 16in staggered?
@woodworksbysnyder3456 Жыл бұрын
I forget now but regs required certain spacing.

Like a lot of us, I have watched a shit ton of deck, const. videos. Never have I seen someone pan back to himself SO MUCH like this dude. Either he is that much in love with himself or he is just trying like hell to show us his cool beard and bitchin bouffant hair doo. Either way I could stand about 5 mins. of the bull crap. I'm out.

talk about over build...sealing pressure treated lumber? how long do you plan to live there? triple 2X12 beam WTF? Glad to see you thought things through however. Think its way over board but rather see that then half ass shit. Will be a nice sturdy deck my friend
@staza12 жыл бұрын
I had the same thought. Way overkill with the 2x12s. For this size deck he could have easily used 2x10 beams and 2x8 joists. But like you said, this thing will be super sturdy so maybe it's all just peace of mind.
@woodworksbysnyder3456 Жыл бұрын
It has a massive covered pavilion sitting on top so 8x8 and beams were required. The pavilion is all 8x8, 4x8 4x6 solid lumber and mortise and tenon build so needed the deck strong to support it all. And my last small deck before I built this had pressure treated wood and deck screws and wood rotted away in like 8 years. Everywhere a screw went in the top, rot set in. I was amazed so I liked the wrap idea.
@dmbrsk3 жыл бұрын
Great job, one thing i'd note is completely wrapping the bottom of the 6x6s with tape is that you potentially are creating a sealed cup that keeps any moisture (ambient or otherwise) locked as it travels downward and has nowhere to escape. Maybe consider leaving weep holes or avoid wrapping the bottom of the 6x6s to prevent that from happening. This guy has a good video explaining why for stair stringers: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hdKGbJNp1dvcnIk.html
