declutter my ENTIRE house with me | downsizing to move + minimalism

Declutter my entire house with me! This isn't just any old ordinary declutter session though... We are getting rid of 90% of our things!
The reason why we are decluttering our house to this extreme is that we are downsizing to move in with my parents to get settled after moving from WA to TX this December. This is going to be a massive change and moving in with my parents seems like the best option to save money.
This home declutter has been challenging but also very eye-opening since we really had to get strict on what adds value to our life to the point where we need to keep it, and then what really doesn't. It's beautiful because we are only left with the things we absolutely love at this point (and our house is fairly empty now 😅). Obviously, when we move into our new home in Dallas we will be looking for furniture to replace what we had to let go of. I'm excited to bring you guys along on what we allow into our lives from a fresh start and a more intentional mindset.
Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss that future video!

I have given my adult children almost two years to come and get what they want from their own bedrooms. They each have homes and I'm tired of being the Mom's Storage Company!!!

@@jobellecollie7139 My mom moved herself, so we had no choice then to select what we need. But I get that would be kind of a drastic solution :D Maybe do something with the rooms where it is stored? Tell your kids you are changing the rooms to a dressing, reading room... This way they have to get there stuff :)

Just give adult kids a timeframe. After X date, you will get rid of stuff. Don’t let them control your space and sanity. My mom recently did a big purge and constantly group texts me and my siblings pictures of items we can claim. If we don’t claim them in a day or so, she sells them on Facebook Marketplace. We’re all grown and have kids of our own, so if we can’t get our acts together to pick up free stuff, that’s on us.

In the past 6 years we have moved 8 times. We have been in our current home for 2 years, so those moves all took place within 4 years. We had a bunch of stuff in storage for the 1st 3 moves, got rid of a lot of stuff and eliminated storage over the next 3 moves, slowly started collecting more stuff after the 7 th move. Since our 8th move, it’s been kind of ridiculous. We will move again hopefully this summer, hopefully for the last time. I want to purge like crazy before that one. My life and mind feel as cluttered as my house.

This is an interesting idea. Maybe ontop of your photo, you can take pictures of some messages your dear friends wrote in the year book(if the person is still your friend today) just as a memory

About 13 years ago I helped a friend move house, she had tonnes of stuff, multiple trips. I remember saying "I'd love to be able to have nothing more than a car load to be able to move around freely." Fast forward and I've spent the past 2 years decluttering my own hoard of stuff! I never built up quite as much as she as I've not really ever been one for clothes and make-up etc. But in that time, unchecked a lot does build up. This lockdown had us taking a closer look at the belongings we actually used and freeing ourselves from anything we didn't.

It's my wardrobe which fills my closets. I used to have dinner parties and entertained quite a bit before retirement. Now I can't even give away all the things needed to host a party. Not the red plastic cup-type parties. I'm from an older age where this was more common.

This declutter was SO challenging but also very eye-opening! Even though I was "forced" to let go of 90% of our stuff, the process felt more enlightening rather than stressful. @@angelascott8173 I watched a decluttering video recently that said you can't force the people you live with to declutter (or, you really shouldn't lol) but you should still declutter everything that belongs to you. You can't change other people, but who knows.. maybe they'll be inspired by your minimalism and do the same with their own stuff! It's kind of freeing in my opinion. It doesn't matter what they do with their stuff. It's up to you to to do it with your own.

I'm sorry but in my opinion, minimalism is not buying too much stuff unless you need it. For example you donated brushes and said that you'll buy new ones in Texas anyway. Or photo album. I know that they take up so many space buut they'll protect photos more affectively. Ooor chair. I think it looks lovely! Just sharing my thoughts please don't get offended :( ❤️

I’m decluttering to go travelling for 6 months and I want to leave as little things as possible at my dad’s. I have been a minimalist for years but decluttering doesn’t only happen once

I threw away all my yearbooks too! So grateful I got rid of that clutter years ago. But I also don’t feel like I had glory days so it was easy for me.

Nice!! Just yesterday I looked at the photos I took of my yearbook pages while I was filming this video and I don’t miss having those clunky books at all! The photos are more than enough to keep as a momento. And same here - I didn’t really have any glory days either 😂

Well this is right on time since I'm moving from Ohio to Texas next month and I'm getting rid of everything, but it's so much and I don't know where to start 😩

I love this! You have great philosophy and taste. How about just cut/remove those two strings that fly around while walking in that jacket?

When my husband & moved across the country we packed as much of our stuff that would fit in our truck including our sons stuff. Talk about keeping only what's important. Lol

I wish you talked a bit more about the move. Why, how and what the room situation is going to be like over there. I was shocked that your selling the bed. Do you have one at your parents house? What a cute dog!!

“Nothing matches” WHAT? My stuff doesn’t match. I have grey futons, a light wood tv stand and dark wood side table and black bookshelves in my living room. My place looks terrible. P.s I hope this didn’t offend you at all and I apologize in advance if it did.
@ReneaDominique

Definitely didn’t offend me no worries!! 😂 I used to have a similar set up when we got into our first apartment. I hated it but I was also so grateful that most of it was free and handed down to us since we were basically broke. 😅
