I bought the Decoded wallet/case for my 15 pro. Both have magsafe but the phone does not charge with both the case and the the wallet cover on together. i don’t know if it should. Anyone else got the case/cover combo? Oddly using a magsafe powerbank, phone charges through the cover. powerbank and charger are from ESR.

You’re right, having used apple’s leather cases every year since the 5s, if you drop them on the right surface they can scratch and mar. They’re not the most durable or protective cases, but I’ve always liked them, for me it’s a good compromise of moderate protection, being thin, and looking and feeling good in the hand. Then we get into the murky area of whether those scratches and gashes on a leather case adds to the character and history of the product or just makes it look ugly 😂 the whole patina debate. What case have you been using that you’d recommend?

If someone buys a leather case for the intention to protect then you need to reconsider. It’s for look at feel leather is leather and damages. Lol

Thanks! It doesn’t bother me actually, I feel like it’s pretty subtle in person. Casetify does the same branding on the camera ring but is a little louder. I can definitely see preferring not to have it at all though

Thanks for the suggestion, if I need a case in the future I’ll check out bellroy. I’ve actually set aside the decoded and have been used a bare case more now, might do a video on that

@@JanCT between the two I’d give a slight edge to the bare case, prefer it just a bit more to decoded. Leather feels a bit better and the buttons and camera cutout match better with the leather. May do a quick video showing it

@@KaayJaay only had it for about three days now. No indent or patina yet. Out of the box it was really smooth but it feels like it’s getting a little bit grippier now which I like, so I’m guessing that hints that some patina will develop gradually from normal use

Yup the pro max version is about 36 grams as compared to 30 for the finewoven. It does add some weight but helps that the phones are lighter this year anyway lol

I’m happy with the Torras protector! It gets further out to the edge than the spigen (which I purchased first) but doesn’t fully curve up to the edge so you still get some room for cases. There is a black border on the protector so it doesn’t show any rainbow effect on the edges (which my spigen did). That’s also the area of only critique- the black edge can block some pixels. On mine I don’t notice that it does, if it is then it’s extremely minor. I still recommend it. Until there’s some updates from other manufacturers to their protectors I think it’s the best option available. The last thing of course is it’s a little pricier of an option I believe I paid around $25 usd as compared to ~15 for the spigen. So cost is a factor as well

I don’t know how it compares to those brands but I find the magnet to be sufficient. The battery pack sticks a bit stronger due to the rubber backing compared to the wallet but I had no issues with the wallet either. As always the wallet slips a bit if you push it side to side but I haven’t had it fall off

Imo caudabe sheath is too slippery. Is the decoded more grippy in your opinion?

Interesting I would think the silicone would be the grippiest of the three. Out of all I had the best grip experience with the apple leather cases. Next would be decoded. It’s not very grippy just yet but as I’m using it I notice the leather is getting grippier. Decoded and fine woven are close though. The back of the fine woven material though is smoother and soft for me. So in order of grippiness: 1. Apple leather 2. Decoded leather 3. Finewoven

Decent protection, similar to any apple case basically. It’s not thick and rugged but it’ll protect your phone from little drops. I don’t like using bulky cases myself so it’s enough protection for me

I’ve seen good things about Andar but the updated version without a cutout for the action button won’t be available until mid November (not necessarily related but I’ve also read some poor experiences with their customer support on macrumors forums). Their case looks great though

I’ve noticed something at around 2:23/2:24, it seems that some light passes through the USB-C cutout at the bottom of the case. A few users on the MacRumors have reported this too. What would you say about it? Noticeable, not really noticeable, annoying? Thanks again.

@steferrari85 yes good eye! There’s a tiny gap visible by the usb c port cutout. If you look for it you can notice it, especially if you hold the phone in landscape. In portrait use, face on using the phone, I don’t noticed it. I’m not bothered by it personally. They could fill the gap by thickening the leather in that little strip but that would also make the usb c cutout smaller which may alter compatibility with some cables. Edit: if you look for it there’s a minor gap in my fine woven case as well for reference What do you think about the little gap, bothersome?

Knowing myself, it would probably annoy me a little bit! 🤣 We'll see, I'll get the phone in December so there's still time to think about the case.

I have this case, I have the aspen coming in November. I’m excited for it

If it bothers you and you have the option to exchange without a lot of hassle I’d send it back. Buttons are important to me on a case because it’s the main thing you interact with and you might press it a lot in a day

That’s understandable, the branding isn’t for everyone

The case itself does have MagSafe, and it works well with the battery pack and wallet. I haven’t used it with stands but the connection is strong with the battery pack so I assume it’ll be perfectly fine

I use a spigen thunderbolt cable at home, a brand I’m not familiar with in the car, and another third party cable in not familiar with at home and they all work great with the cutout. Only one that doesn’t work is a cable that came with a sandisk drive that has a rectangular cutout at the usb end. Case has held up well, nothing else of note really

It hasn’t left any stain on my MagSafe charger, I don’t imagine it will. The apple cases never did, was color leak a problem with some other cases?

I had the apple leather case for my previous phone and it didnt leave a mark either. Just wondering since I have never ordered from them before. I know some leather cases usually leave mark depending on how it was made.

This is my third decoded leather case and I can confirm that the case wont stain the charger. However you will see the mag ring on your case after a while but nothing serious tough.

Ahh yeah I’ve heard a lot of good things about Ryan London. I have since used a bare case leather case which I like a bit more than decoded. I’ll try Ryan London eventually

Yup, the edges are no longer chamfered but it does show a tiny sliver of the titanium frame which I personally like. The previous Apple leather and silicone cases are similar. I’m not sure if there’s a leather case with thicker edges to fully hide the frame

Unfortunately I haven’t tried the Andar case, but my Finewoven case, apple silicone case and this decoded all show a bit of the phone frame. Probably more rugged tpu type cases will have a lip that curves over the front. The thinner cases show the frame a bit

Lol it’s not one to one but Finewoven is now apples alternative to their own leather cases. Hence this case is a good leather alternative to Finewoven if you’re unhappy with apples only premium choice of trash plastic aka Finewoven
