Yay! 500 K 🥳 Big Congratulations Ganesh ! 1 more important point - all fleets of indigo are same (A320) it saves huge cost in training for pilot & staffs, same pilot can operate any flight from the fleet. While other airliners have a mix of Boeing and Airbus models which requires different trainings/skill set & cannot be cross utilized to fly the aircrafts in airliners fleet .

Good video in principle. But there is a flaw in argument. When Indigo leases the aircraft, the lesser will take into account all cost the airplane will incur (running cost, maintenance, depreciation), plus profit. So operating the airplane in a sale - lease back approach is always costlier than if you would be the owner. The advantage, as you rightly point out, is that the cost are to be covered by the generated incomes, thus affecting cash-flow. The other flaw in argument is that it increases the net profit. This is not always the case, as depreciation is always taken as an expense, reducing thus the gross profit before tax.

Very beautifully explained A small problem 8:38 Indigo can't save through depreciation provision as they took operating lease not a finance lease... Which means they can save only on rent paid nothing else...

This works in telecom sector where previous generation infrastructure becomes more or less useless and the new players don't have to bear that (like when JIO entered straight to 4G). However in airline you still own the aircraft or can lease. So zero loss doesnt make any difference to them its just a balance sheet thing. Ofcourse being debt free gives you a lot of flexibility but think about the tonn of experience Spicejet, Vistara etc have in terms of fleet management, flight safety and stuffs which Akasa doesnt have right now.

These initiatives in the Airline sector looks promising. The need to reach one's destination as fast as possible is ever increasing. Airlines is the only way this can be done. Having a full fledged high speed rail network will take a few decades to materialize. It is always said that the best businesses are those which solve problems of the masses.

But the real problem is aircraft fuel is derived from crude oil which is imported in India resulting in trade deficits for our country and a much bigger source of pollution than vehicles on road. What China did to avoid such capital drain is massive construction of bullet trains within a decade and it was very much successful.(Bullet trains runs on electricity and chinese are the leaders in renewable energy production)

Interesting video and informative but i still have questions: 1)You have mentioned ultra low carrier,bargaining power and so on but then admit that even indigo has a similar power. How will akasha air succed? What is USP of akasha air that no other airline/transportation has that can enable it to succed? The secondary airports,etc will benifit all airlines. 2) Ultra low pricing is not a viable stratergy (by itself), indigo has route optimization, hubs and more. Indigo only flies to certain locations where its profitable and its planes are almost always full. How wil akasha air compete. 3) The foreign air carriers have operate only to or from hubs, prioritize underutilized or underserved airports/passsengers and only fly profitable routes where there is not much competition. They dont often fly to major airports (high landing costs and fees) and negotiate with other airports where the fees is cheaper. As these regional airpots have much less footfall they are willing to give cheaper costs to airlines for landings and so on. This helps reduce the cost of the ticket and is a sound streatergy. Passengers in usa do travel to these alternative airports and then grab a bus to the final destination at signincant discount to directly going to the main airport in the city. In india i am noty sure whether this is viable. If i wished to go to from mumbai to hyderbad and the cost to tirupathi was cheaper, why would i want to board a flight then a bus when i can catch a train from mumbai to hyderbad directly (same time and cost). Still many doubts , hard to find the actual stratergy employed by akasha airlines.

Good Video. The depreciation part though leading to saving taxes might have to be re looked. Depreciation as non cash expenditure helps in saving taxes. Anyway Indigo would still have another expenditure in place of Depreciation in the form of Lease Rentals (although a cash expenditure) to save on taxes.

Absolutely right! The owner (the lessor) will claim tax benefit of depreciation and Indigo can claim lease rental as expense thereby saving tax. The information in this video about this point is wrong.

Great Video!! Very informative! Just wanted to correct one thing, Indigo doesn't get depreciation benefit under income tax. Under Income tax act it is the Lessor who always gets depreciation, not the lessee (Indigo) However, Indigo would still benefit under Income Tax due to its Lease Payments. Hence, Indigo would pay upfront Tax on gain from sale transaction ( 5 mil in this video). But enjoy Tax Deductions for future lease payments.

Wonderful coverage of the airlines industry. SW Airlines (or Love Airlines) and Ryan Air have shown that it can be done. SW was the only airlines in Blue despite the issues of pandemic. How could they turn things around? Ryan was expanding while the others were bleeding. Ryan went on an expansion spree. As for AirAsia, it is the fallout of a number of factors; right from route selection, to understanding the market, to competition. Rakesh Gangwal, the erstwhile CEO of US Airlines was the co-founder of Indigo. Their foundation was strong and the policies all directed to cutting costs. Only time will tell whether Akasa can fly through these turbulent times.
