@@stefan512 I mean, consent, as far as we're aware, is a human concept. Can't say something is rape if consent isn't something that exists for them. Even if it does, practically every animal, including humans, do god awful shit to each other and other animals. And when humans do it, it's a million times worse, as we understand what is right and wrong. Other animals are driven by instinct that they can't control, unlike us. We still continue to slaughter billions of animals for our tastebuds and fashion, despite knowing other animals feel pain and fear; despite being able to live perfectly fine without animal products. So who is worse? I'd say humans.

Did you know that North American aquariums have a fosterprogram where they put an orphaned pup with a mom to raise it? There are a few trained foster mom otters that they use. The Vancouver Aquarium only has rescues and their otters for the most part were trained in the foster program. They feed each otter $100 worth of fresh seafood everyday. They have to rotate them out of the tanks after a few weeks because personality issues start to develop between them and rotating them fixes it

The banging is NOT a natural behavior, as in innate. It must be learned from careful observation of the mother. It is completely learned behavior, that's why, if a sea otter is orphaned at any an early age, he or she dies unless man steps in and rescues him or her.

Otters are dangerous things. This makes them seem as harmless as a house cat. I seen a otter bite a Showman's calf back in the 80's at a small private park in Florida. Damn thing bit, clenched, and shook like a shark trying to rip apart meat. Never seen that much blood afore or since. It was a vision that sticks with you. The otter seemed to be diseased. Much bigger than most otters you see on TV.
